If you take Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey at his word, and I don’t think that I do, they were worried that banning Trump on Twitter would permanently split the internet between right and left factions. Taking down Parler was done to mitigate the potential damage by removing the obvious choice the right faction would choose to migrate to in response to the banning of Trump. The leadership of Google, Apple, Amazon, and Twitter were playing god, or at least social engineers who believed it their responsibility to control the behavior of Americans. Yes, because you can't possibly post conservative comments on Facebook or Twitter. Oh, wait - you can... (And I didn't make anything up. I'm just getting tired of debating your paranoid delusions.) |

Based on what exactly? Is this another example of something your toaster said? As of yesterday they had yet to find a single arrested suspect who even had a Parler account. The investigation thus far has uncovered that virtually all organizing was done via Facebook and Zello as published in The Washington Post. The fact is Parler did a miniscule amount of moderation to remove dangerous material. Again, what is your source for this statement? With Parler and Amazon now engaged in a court battle we have real analytical information available. There were roughly 26,000 instances of content that potentially encouraged violence posted on Parler and only about 1,000 escaped moderation for more than 48 hours. There were far more instances of content calling for violence on Twitter up to and including calls for the assassination of the President that had gone unmoderated. The narrative that Parler is somehow responsible for the Capitol riot is at this point a lie. Early on it was speculation and rumor but investigations have begun and we have a clearer picture of what happened. I really want to know what your source is for continuing to post this misinformation. If Parler moderated the way Facebook has Parler would still be online right now. That is only true if you mean if Parler was moderated in such a way that it became an outlet for the left. Parler had developed their own AI content moderation package and were negotiating use of Amazon AWS's AI to moderate content when Amazon violated Parler's AWS contract to shut them down without providing 30 days notice to cure content defects. The likely truth is that Amazon shut down Parler to prevent it from gaining market share from Twitter (a huge Amazon AWS client) when Twitter banned Trump. Parler had rocketed to #1 on Apple as Twitter users stampeded to Parler and that was why they were shut down. It was also helped that Amazon's lefty staff demanded that Amazon drop Parler. The moderation of content excuse is just that. The secret sauce of our system of government is that it runs on not good humans. It needs not good humans to be in the positions of power. That doesn't extend to treasonous humans but the American system was founded on the insight that devils are drawn to the levers of power. It uses the selfish greed and hunger for power that the type of people who seek these positions, as a check & balance on the other devils occupying the other positions. If our government were staffed with nothing but altruistic angels all working toward a common purpose, the adversarial nature of our governmental structure would cease to protect the people from the government which is what most concerned the Founders. That is the philosophical bedrock difference between the American system and the Communist system. The Communist system requires angels to be in the positions of power. History has proven the American Founders to have better insight on true human nature than did Karl Marx. So-called 'not good humans' doesn't bother me but treason is another matter. |
