Still upset that Carlwell didn't get that hardship year! I just read the whole thread to see if Carlwell was mentioned. He attempted to stay in college forever which immediately gets him points. He always seemed to be having more fun than everyone else. His windmill dunk vs Gonzaga will forever be etched inside my head

I mean, it can't not be Butler. That shot against FAU in the Final Four was easily the most deliciously insane moment in the history of Aztec sports -- and maybe even San Diego sports. Completely bonkers. We celebrated in the stands for 20 minutes straight. It was absolutely unreal. No other SDSU hoops player -- or football (or tennis, badminton, water polo) -- has ever come close to producing such an over-the-top, frenzied moment. So, yeah, it's gotta be Butler.
And, yes, I completely get that Butler's body of work -- while elite -- doesn't quite compare to the overall careers of Flynn, LeDee, Thames, Heath, Cage, et. al. But c'mon. The Shot?!? 'Nuff said.

Anyone old enough to remember Aerick Sanders ? Definitely. My first year at State was Fisher's first year as coach. It's amazing how much the program has grown since then. One of my favorite players from those days was Al Faux. Agree! With so many favorites it is hard to pick. Although, I am going with the original assassin AL Faux for my all time favorite player. It is easy to say Billy Blanco, The Klaw, Final Four Hero Butler, Cage, but I like to think outside the box. I am going with the little known player named Al who just came in burning nets down. Randy the "Lefty" was the first big transfer to get things started for Coach Fisher so he gets honorable mention. It had to start someplace.

The Shot. Absolutely my favorite, most intense, sports moment in my 60+ years as an Aztec. And I was so blessed to be able to share that moment in Houston with my wife.
My all time favorite player list would be at least 30 players long. My top ten list would have not less than 100 players. Too many to narrow it down.

Tim Shelton. Not the best player, but the player with the biggest heart. Gave his body to the team and to the Aztec fans. Aztec For Life.

Great picks in this thread. I'll also add 2002 MWCT MVP Randy Holcomb and the rest of that team who played with arguably the biggest hearts of any Aztec team vs. the entire state of Wyoming in the semis and the entire city of Vegas in the final.

This thread reflects what a great team-oriented program we have and the great human beings that were recruited. All of the players mentioned gave their hearts, bodies and souls to the school and to us. Aztecs For Life.

Absolutely the description of what our athletic program has been, with very rare exceptions, during my entire time as an Aztec. Well said.
