Best all around game versus a quality opponent in a long time Possibly the best all around game...EVER. There was that other team from Kansas.

It was Indeed a good win. However, let’s not celebrate prematurely. Creighton played two walk-on today. They also lost one of their center to injury. They were not at full strength. Iowa is at full strength so it should be a better measuring tool. Iowa is not at full strength either. 4 days ago they lost a 6'11" Forward who was averaging about 18 minutes a game for them. He's out for the year with a torn ACL.

McDermott comments: “They got away from us,” coach Greg McDermott said during his postgame radio interview on 1620 AM KOZN. “And obviously if you give a team like that that kind of lead, it’s really difficult to come back from.” “Ty-Shon, Marcus and Mitch — when two of the three of those don’t have a good night, it’s not going to be pretty for us,” McDermott said. “Especially against the physical frontline that San Diego State had.” “They were really, really good. We weren’t very good at all,” McDermott said. “We’ve got to look in the mirror and figure out what we’ve got to change before (Friday) night at this time.”

Really sucks for our schedule that Texas Tech lost. Really hurts our potential OOC schedule if we beat Creighton. Takes away our 1 potential high end game. So what we need is to beat Iowa, soundly, and for Creighton to crush Texas Tech. Makes the Creighton win even more interesting.

One other thing. I was really critical of Flynn Monday night. He played really well tonight. Hoping this is the Flynn we get the rest of the season, because it's what we expected. That lob going in was classic! He banked in a three and tried to lob an assist that went in. Also, he tried to go one on 5 then got blocked. He rarely finds a shoot he doesn’t like. I really hope he evolves his game. His defense was great though. I think he tried to bank that 3. From straight on, yea that's always luck..but from that angle I really think he banked it. it's not that hard of a shot..use it in horse all the time. Plus his release was pure...

Still can't believe how complete Mitchell's game is this year. Seems like at least a couple times a game, he gets a rebound and brings it up the floor fast but instead of driving to the hoop against 2 or 3 defenders, he slows down and gets it to a guard.
He looks for the open person and his shot looks smooth from wherever he shoots it. He also tries taking charges and bodies up strong on defense. But best of all, he doesn't try any of those across the court passes/turnovers that he did for the last two years.
I'm always pleased when he's in the game now, especially at the FT line.

Possibly the best all around game...EVER. There was that other team from Kansas. Arguably, considering the opponent, the Kansas win was the best win for the program. But IMO, this was a better all around combined offensive/defensive performance.

Totally agree.. He's improved so much with his decision making along with his skills. I've noticed he is also much more hesitant to just shoot the three, even when he's open. He has a drive-first and pass-first mentality this year which is sending him to the line and helping our team a lot, even though his three point stroke is looking really nice. He's very under-control and not forcing things this season compared to years past
I think it's a great move having him come off the bench also. Having that kind of scoring and shot-creating ability off the bench is a major luxury. With KJ and Flynn we have enough creating & ball handling to free up Schakel for the kick-outs, so it's a perfect combo. Then when KJ or Flynn start getting tired, we can still have Mitchell in there to create

Yanni is an f....ing beast....What top 10 team wouldn't want him on their roster? ? Credit to the staff for closing the deal on Yanni..... How did this guy only average 18 min and 6 points a game for Vanderbilt? Baffling....

The weight loss really helped, and he's not trying to dribble past 4 guys any more, which is a nice surprise.

How did this guy only average 18 min and 6 points a game for Vanderbilt? Baffling.... This is where major props must to be given to Dutcher. Yanni was “his guy” and Dutcher made it known to everyone. Personally, I thought Dutcher had started smoking dope, because Wetzell had shown little at Vanderbilt. Also felt that Dutch had never really developed anyone during his first two years as head coach. To see how Yanni has performed - and so quickly - is a major accomplishment for the entire coaching staff.

And to pile on...
Mitchell is a nightmare for teams with shallow depth. He seems to draws fouls at an impressive rate. When he has the ball, he’s strong, confident and skilled enough to take it inside and pick up the foul at will. Teams that are playing only 7-8 guys against us are wasting precious fouls trying to D-up Mitchell when he’s on the floor.
Just love our team skill and versatility.

I think this is the deepest team we have ever had. At least 10 guys that can make a positive contribution. This really helps when you are playing in any tournaments. Already looking forward to the MWC tourney!

Absolutely props to Dutch and staff on finding and landing him. I think I read somewhere that he picked up the game very late, which probably explains a bunch. Basketball ain’t quite tennis. He also looks massive compared to the Vandy highlights I saw.

I was fairly disappointed at the lack of fan support that we had in Vegas. We had the least support amongst the 4 teams.

I was fairly disappointed at the lack of fan support that we had in Vegas. We had the least support amongst the 4 teams. I’m guessing most of the visiting teams flew to Vegas. Usually Aztec fans drive but the weather thru the Cajon Pass and other routes made it very treacherous. We’ll see if attendance improves today.
