Zags have to split evenly their share from playing in MM (in WCC ) so they are looking for a better split of money - will MW or WCC give them a higher % ? That is the money question as to where they may go ?

I'd be happy with giving everyone in the MW half of the NCAA money they earn in the tournament, with the rest divided evenly among the other members. This would be fairer than the current Boise deal because all teams have a chance and only get paid based on what they earn. |

Would love to see Gonzaga, and for that matter BYU, in the MW. I think the conference will look at terms more closely after the Boise flap.
I have no emotional commitment to either program but the money and aura generated by these two programs would certainly enhance the conference's cachet.
As for the anti BYU chatter, in sports, hate is a good thing.

Hate to bring up old times, but I will NEVER forget Kyle Spain getting destroyed going to the hoop, for the win, in the last 5 seconds and no call was made. To this day, its the single worst call, or non call, I have ever seen in a basketball game. Also, during one game when Tollner was coaching, we had 3 touchdowns disallowed for ahem, various reasons. It wasn't just the Chad Bunn game, people, it was many, many games. When you add the fact they were much better than us most years, I could do without ever playing them again. |

Hearing from friend with ties to BYU that they are seriously considering a move back to MWC, but only if Gonzaga and SMC come along. Also heard that they would bring all sports as leadership doesn’t think they can get a NY6 birth without a conference.
If true it would make the MWC a 14 team conference for Basketball and a 13 team league for football... we would need to either gain or lose one more team...

There is no reason to add St Mary's, unless that is what Gonzaga wants. If BYU comes back all sports, we should accept that. Sorry, Andyfromwashington. I'm not one of the young people. I came here in the early Coryell years and attended the SDSU victory in 1970 31-11. My thoughts: if it helps the program or the conference..do it.
I guarantee, Long and Wicker's decision won't be based on history but dollars.

Oh boy.. That AD at SJSU might not be sleeping very well this days.. The mtn west might be doing to SJSU what the Big East did in 2001 to Temple after they failed to upgrade their football program and attendance. I can see alot of this ADs voting out SJSU..

I would love to see SJSU and USU leave. However, it's a little disingenuous to kick them out after inviting them a few years ago after a panic attack with Utah and TCU leaving. SJSU plays football (sort of) so they aren't a fit for the LBSU group. This weak ass commissioner convinced the presidents to take them so they would have 12 for a playoff (Hawaii too). They knew (or should have known) what they were getting. Both have not disappointed that expectation.
Love Gonzaga coming on equal financial terms. Hate BYU but like it or not they are more nationally recognizable than any MWC school.

All the hatred for BYU on this thread alone is all the more reason to let those cheaters back in.
I could not wait for game time vs BYU on game days. I could not stand them or their annoying fans but I couldn’t turn away, just had to watch.

All else aside, my reason for not allowing BYU back is simply that it is patently unfair to ask 18-22 year olds to compete against 22-26 year olds.
They chose their system. Let them live with it. On their own.

All the conference realignment discussion in recent years never involved "additions" to the MWC. Only how it would implode and the Aztecs would escape. These additions would be spectacular. As an example, after BYU and Utah left, the basketball tourney took a huge hit in attendance in Vegas that hasn't recovered. Simply put, it hasn't been as much fun without rooting against BYU. Also, does this mean everyone will need to congratulate Commissioner Thompson on a job well done?  Get it done!! |
