I’d take BYU only in all sports. If not, give me St Mary’s and Gonzaga. Gonzaga can have a deal if it makes my life more fun with their road and home games 2x a year

When did the MWC change its rule that schools must compete in both BB and CFB? It dont think they have. Then again, I am sure they would quickly revise that rule if it is seen as best for the conference.

Yeah but can we kick some of the crap out of the league (San Jose, Wyoming, Colorado St)?

I don't mind kicking out deadweight like San Jose, but some of the other schools mentioned are ridiculous. CSU was a major contender just last year and has been among the top MW basketball programs for years. Wyoming has had some of the best players in the league the past few years and Ratboy was one of the best coaches this league has seen behind Fisher and Tim Miles. Not to mention their contributions to football.
The school to dump, if we must, is Utah State. They've contributed nothing in any sport.
Wichita State will return to obscurity as soon as someone makes Gregg Marshall an offer he can't refuse.

Was bummed when we didn't take Wichita State, Gonzaga would be even better. Like many others, I'd love to kick out San Jose State. Just swapping Gonzaga for SJSU would be great. From a basketball perspective, NM State I think would be fun -- huge rival to the Lobos, they've been a tourney team 7 times this decade. I don't know financially if they had a lot with that tiny TV market though. I wouldn't want to kick out Colorado State or Wyoming though. Utah State and Air Force would be the only other 2 I'd consider.

Adding Gonzaga who doesn’t have a football team so you can drop a Current MW school is ridiculous. Please stop. That would eliminate a MW football championship game.

Mixed feelings on this possibility. If Gonzaga and BYU come in on a special Boise-esque deal, then no thanks. My crystal ball sees the Zags' rep diminishing nationally once they come in and start losing five or six league games on a regular basis. Not sure whether a faded BYU helps the league much. If they have a resurgence upon joining the MW, how does that help the other teams, who they'd be defeating?
My position on BYU, in general, is I respect the basketball program -- even in its current state -- and Coach Rose and wish we could schedule a home-and-home non-conference series. I have zero respect for the football program and hope we never let the cheatin' Cougars back into our league. Let them continue to suffer. One of the biggest mistakes our athletic director has made in his tenure is scheduling them for games.

No BYU, the cheaters, if anybody can remember. Life has been great without BYU so don't add them. Tell Gonzaga they need to add all the other sports like Notre Dame. Again, ask any Aztec sports fan that's over 50 about BYU cheating in past. They can't help it.

After mulling it over more, I think the best solution might be an informal non-conference scheduling alliance so that our teams face each other more often. Include St Mary's, New Mexico State, even Wichita State. Could help us avoid some of those resume-killers we're forced to play sometimes.

MW cannot kick schools (SJSU) out without majority of presidents votes and SDSU and FSU is not voting to remove SJSU so that's not happening. As to Gonzaga and BYU the MW has the leverage, Gonzaga and BYU have no where else to go and MW is improving with UNLV. Going forward MW has 5 solid basketball schools in Nevada, SDSU, UNLV, Boise & Fresno State (these schools are recruiting well and on upward trajectory).
MW should: 1). Accept Gonzaga as basketball only and will to compromise on terms. This move would immediately put MW on national stage 2). Only accept BYU if a). all sports and b) no compromise on terms (small as all other schools and not Boise sweetheart deal) 3). If BYU not interested target St. Mary as basketball only partner for Gonzaga

Sure, they pop up every now and then, but they are terrible places to play and contribute nothing to the conference viewership-wise.

Gonzaga
Im willing to make a compromise with Gonzaga just to better our conference and their wallet. What should really happen is every institute should be able to keep half of the money in NCAA credits as oppose to splitting the pot equally. The equally pot works when every members are willing to spend same amount of money in coaching staff, home games, and facility upgrades. Also every institute would be able to keep their third tier media right. Im also willing to cut ties with SJSU and Hawaii and bring in either St. Marys or BYU(full member).

Mountain: Air Force Boise State New Mexico Wyoming Colorado State Utah State

Zags & St. Mary's OK. No special arrangements. Don't forget that they leave all of their NCAA credits with the WCC. BYU can pound sand. Don't need or want them. They made their bed now they can live in it.

How about we pass on BYU and go for St. Mary's instead? That would also help ybu to finish higher in the WCC to make the people in provo happy...a win win!
