Mizzou fan here. I wanted to say first off, that if the news is true, I wish you all success in finding a replacement for Jim Sterk. Secondly, I really hope that you end up in the Big XII. I met some SDSU fans in Columbia in 2010 (sorry to bring that up) and they were really cool and I have generally rooted for San Diego State since then. I have read the bio for Jim Sterk so I won't ask about that, but I was a little curious about his personality. Our last AD was pretty standoffish with fans/donors and never fit in. I am hoping that Mr. Sterk will be more personable. Kind of an odd geographic fit but other than that we are very excited. We were invited into a Mizzou tailgate that nite and enjoyed how friendly and interested in the Aztecs everyone was . So I'll just conjecture that "cool" was us😎. We damn near pulled the upset. Ha. Very well could have been! I felt really bad after that game. Immensely relieved but I can't imagine being on the other side. You guys had some NFL talent on that team for sure: Escobar, Lindley, and Hillman of course. That long TD run he had was pretty cool.

#25. Scott Woodward U of WA is gone, replaced by an SDSU Alum!!
When I spend a weekend in San Diego, (for OTL or Charger practice or Padres or..) I usually start my Saturday morning with a Starbucks at Aztec Shops, (across from 7/11).
I'm AMAZED at ALL the construction, be it apartments, office space, I have no idea. I realize I have to get past my bitterness at losing "Don Coryell Stadium" decades ago, but with all this money flowing, I'm still hard pressed to think some couldn't have been dedicated to a new campus stadium. Granted, that would require some serious brain power so I know it's nothing but a pipe dream.
But I remain hard pressed to imagine a city willing to throw Seaport Village and possibly Fiesta Island under the bus for maximum revenue potential would be willing to turn over Mission Valley land without some financial accountability, (I believe taxpayers would demand it). And that's just where it starts.
Whatever inroads Sterk may have made selling the idea of MV land for SDSU use has just gone south, (just another one turning their back on San Diego for greener pastures).
MORE THAN EVER, SDSU football has to start making inroads towards winning back the community.
If the program can succeed, (a process beyond just this season), maybe there would be serious support to consider a stadium SOMEWHERE close to, if not on, campus.
When people start to care, there's leverage.

It hurts everytime I think of it. With that, it was the best "roadie" we have ever gone one. Mizzou fans were great.

That rainy night we found out how special Hillman was - two long runs for td as he pulled away from Mizzou 's secondary. It was special to have my two sons with me.

I am hoping that Mr. Sterk will be more personable. Kind of an odd geographic fit but other than that we are very excited. You guys couldn't have done any better, especially if you're looking for someone who's less standoffish & more personable. Considering the troubled state of your athletic department you guys got extremely lucky. Our loss is definitely your gain. I've known him for over 10 years, and have followed his career at WSU even before that. He's raised the state of the athletic program at every stop, and definitely has taken the SDSU program to a completely different level than it was 6-7 years ago. Record setting donations; numerous conference championships. A combined football/basketball record that's among the best in the nation. Jim's not the type to command the room or be overtly outspoken, but he is the type who is willing to talk to everyone in the room & is very real & present in his conversations. I've been lucky enough to talk to several of his coaches, both here & at WSU (& 1 who at Virginia) & every one of them raves about what he does for their program. Fish & Rocky (& Tony Bennett & others) all said he's the best AD they've ever worked with. He's also extremely well connected around the country. His buddy is Duke's AD; Jim's served on the Television committee while in the P12; he's now part of the NCAA Basketball Selection committee. He's served on several NCAA athletic related boards. He even knows the NCAA President extremely well from his days back at UW, so you'll have a quality advocate to other schools around the country. The only downside is during February & March you may not see much of him, as he'll be consumed by his work with the hoops committee! It's one of the reasons I didn't think he'd look elsewhere for a couple years. It's a very sad day for SDSU, but the good news for SDSU is we're light years ahead of where we were when he was hired, and thus we're a much more attractive position. We should attract a lot of quality applicants. Hopefully I'm wrong but I just don't see us hiring someone of Jim's quality & character, but if we do we'll have among the best ADs in the country. Good luck to you, and hope the situation in Missouri gets better. Jim's definitely taken on yet another major challenge, which does tend to be his MO!

Was Sterk on the NCAA selection group for MBB ? Also lost Assistant AD Moose..... to Bowling Green . B12 application or consideration .. ? Anyone that really likes Sports from the " JAM " group of donors/Qualcomm that would like to put their name in ? Former SDSU coach Beth Burns trade her law suit for an application to AD ?

Sterk has a soft spot for lost causes, I guess (with a hefty raise). You're getting a quality guy for Mizzou.
Oldie Out

great...
just killed our chances into getting into the big 12.
perfect timing.
also puts into perspective where his mind was during this critical juncture in Aztec history

I don't think Sterk was a bad AD as my post earlier seems to point to, but I do think his timing of getting the job made him look a lot better than he was. Think he was ok, and don't think this will effect stadium/realignment talk one bit. Of course they need to hire a competent AD, but that goes without saying.

We still remember 2010 but have no ill will for your program (although it was a block in the back by I think his name was TJ Moe, ). In fact I'll say that out of all the fans that has come our way, your fans probably have left the best impression. You are always welcome here. Tenn fans not so much, they were really rude and racist. Sterk seems like a nice guy but I haven't had the chance to talk to the guy. Good luck to you guys and kick some ass in the SEC (especially Tenn)...and pray to the football/conference gods to let us into a P5 conference! lol

Indirectly, Sterk could still help us get into the Big 12. He knows us, he knows the community and could help in an eventual sell. That being said, let's get a damn Aztec alum in here this time. I was thinking the same until I remembered Missouri is in the SEC. Not sure how much that will help. Back to glass half empty for me.

He did alright, he didn't make any major hires since he has been there. He did a decent job fundraising but attendance under him has been stagnant. It was probably a big payday for him but he has to live in BFE so let him go enjoy it.
OUr pres will pick somebody good.

It's a big loss for now, but we'll see who we get in replacement. It could be that Sterk has positioned us well with his obvious strength, fundraising, and we'll now reap the benefits provided by a new AD stronger in the other facets of the job. Gotta hope for a positive outcome.
It's tempting to speculate Fish retiring from coaching to become AD, but I think he and the school know better than that. I don't think we need another Gene Bartow situation, though of course Fisher would be better than Bartow.

Will he remain on the MBB Selection Committee or will it go to someone from the Mountain West? I would think he stays on. Sterk as AD of Mizzoo would be a better proponent for SDSU than any other AD (save his replacement here) from this shite conference.

OK well I guess that leaves just two questions. One, who's the replacement going to be; and two, will sdcoug now become mocoug? (joking coug, don't get carried away) Beat me to it, haha! I'm sure we'll see less and less of said poster as he slowly gets situated in the Midwest.
