What happens to the Raiders will be very interesting. Oakland has no money, no plan and the A's have their paws on the land. San Diego is definitely in play there I'd say.

I'm hoping we get the Raiders. It sounds strange, cause there are more Raider fans in LA, but without the Chargers I bet the stadium would be rocking on Sundays. I really hope Spanos gets buried in debt in LA. He certainly has no tradition in LA. They left in 1960 because they couldn't compete with the Rams. If he spent half the time and money lobbying here in San Diego as he has for LA we'd have a plan for a new stadium by now. www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/2016/jan/20/chargers-unwelcome-los-angeles/

The Raiders aren't going to SD. They are using the threat of SD for leverage against Oakland. If SD won't approve public money for the Chargers they sure as hell won't for the Raiders. It's the NFL leverage business model. You guys should know this by now.

It's the NFL leverage business model. You guys should know this by now. You're not tracking anymore, are you? There is no leverage to be had against Oakland. There is no stadium plan/proposal in Oakland, there's no political will, there's not even a lease for next year. Within the next couple of years the Raiders will not be playing in Oakland. It's over. If the Chargers move to Inglewood, the Raiders will absolutely engage San Diego on the plan the city put forth to the Chargers. Will it work? No idea. If the Chargers stay in San Diego, the Raiders will immediately move to Inglewood. That's Dean's dilemma. That's the hold up. As for the emotional no vote on public funding, when it comes down to no pro football in San Diego or backing the Raiders, IMO it's much closer than you want to admit.

News flash; all Dean & the NFL care about is $$$$$$$! If Dean can increase the value of his franchise by at least $1.5 billion he is going move; it is not rocket science.
It is a fallacy that LA (20 million people) won't support two NFL teams. And comparing LA & the NFL in 1960 to 2016 is laughable.
1960 Fortune 500 companies in LA - no data
2016 Fortune 500 companies in LA - 26 of the 57 California Fortune 500 companies are based in LA (#1 in LA is Chevron - $168 billion in revenue last year!)
1960 LA County population ~ 5 million
2016 LA County population ~ 10 million (20 million with combined surrounding counties)
2016 Fortune 500 Companies in San Diego = 2
2016 SD County population ~ 3 million
Regardless, the single biggest revenue generator for the NFL is their TV contracts. The TV networks want two teams in the number two media market in the nation ( so they can $ell adverti$ing on TV) and the NFL owners & Kroenke don't want the Raiders image & branding in LA. It works perfect with an AFC & NFC team - Just like New York - Jets/Giants (funny how LA will mirror the #1 New York market isn't it... Coincidence?!? Nope!
Short-term fan support is the least of Deans concerns. For the long term the equity & fan support LA is a slam dunk!
So long San Diego Chargers; Hello Los Angeles Chargers!

Both teams already were based in NY, now Imagine the Philadeplhia Eagles moving to share a stadium with the NY Jets, but now as the NY Eagles. Doesn't work does it.
The money angle makes more sense, but Spanos besides now having a $3 Billion dollar team will be saddled with a $ 1 Billion debt. Does he have the balls to take on this enormous debt with no guarantee of revenues in a new market. It's a huge risk, and he has brothers and sisters who'll he'll have to answer to. We'll soon find out the size of his cajones. The U-T outlined a plan in the works with John Moors and another entity in SD joining the convention center expansion tapping into a hotel room tax that would leave Spanos with only $50 mil in debt.
I could hear the collective sigh of relief from the Spanos family when they heard about that. It's not about $$$$$, it's about RISK.

I could hear the collective sigh of relief from the Spanos family when they heard about that. It's not about $$$$$, it's about RISK. All the risk is in San Diego. Is there a guaranteed NFL stadium going to be built in SD? Nope. How about Los Angeles. YES! The only somewhat viable option for the Chargers with the NFL timeline is MV which the Chargers have already stated they are not interested in. Even if they were it woukd have to pass a public vote which, IMO & the Chargers, is highly unlikely. Downtown is even more problematic. It would take 3-5 years to resolve downtown & that woukd also require a public vote. If Dean doesn't want to take on the debt to own 50% of the stadium (which IMO he will become a 50% partner) he has the option of becoming a tenant. Either way the value of the Chargers will increase significantly. No guaranteed revenue? Last year the 32 NFL teams split $6 billion (nearly $190 million/team) up over 4% from the prior year for TV alone! TV is the single biggest revenue stream for NFL teams. The stadiums throw off cash as well for owners and this mega stadium in the #2 market is going to be a cash cow. The writing is on the wall.

"There is no guarantee of an NFL Stadium in San Diego"
Now does anyone actually believe there will never be a stadium built in San Diego? And there is no guarantee the sun will come up.....ridiculous argument. Just more posturing.

And there is no guarantee the sun will come up.....ridiculous argument. Just more posturing. LOL! When did I ever say never? There is no current or future plan that will pass with a vote and there won't be one for years. It is most certainly not a ridiculous argument for an NFL owner who has the option of moving to a city that has a guaranteed brand new NFL stadium that is going to built vs staying in a city that he hopes/maybe the voters will pass a plan to build a new NFL stadium. You are grasping at straws that just aren't there. And yes it is a much, much greater probability that the sun will come up every day for the next 5-10+ years vs a new NFL stadium gets built in San Diego in the next 5-10+ years.

Just curious why you are so down on San Diego. Where do you live? I've lived in both cities and I couldn't imagine having to live in smellA.
If that's where they want to be, so be it, no skin off my chin.

Since I am not an NFL fan (particularly with the unethical business practices the NFL demonstrates) it is also "no skin of my chin."

I'll always remember Alex's longtime friendship with Bob Hope and his Hollywood connections. www.sfgate.com/entertainment/article/Bob-Hope-Earns-Smiles-At-Spanos-Party-2994921.phpI've looked at this move as more of a long time desire for Dean to be closer to tinsel town than because of any scenario San Diego couldn't eventually work out.

The San Diego Chargers, who may join the Rams in Los Angeles, would appreciate as well, doubling their $1.525 billion valuation from September. Yeah, The Chargers are probably moving.
