PAC schools are doing a very good job of recruiting . anyone who thought UCLA would fade away could be mistaken. CAL is not a 1 year wonder , Bland is doing his thing for USC. Arizona is also in the mix for most top recruits .

Arizona is also in the mix for most top recruits . Oregon and Washington bounced back as well, ASU with Bobby Hurly is also making a run at top level talent. Throw in Gonzaga and UNLV and all of a sudden there is more competition then ever on 4-star players.

CAL is not a 1 year wonder , They most likely are, unless they win big this year. The only reason they got the recruiting class they did was because rabb was close to home.

CAL has verbal from Oscar Fryer , He considered by #3 in CAL, Vance Jackson and Tim Harrison , both people we were looking at , but do not see them considering SDSU now . They are also in the mix for Ben Kone , who would be considered local for them , plus Cyrus and Jordan Ford. . They also have guys looking at them from FL . VA , GA , they have connections on the East Coast . They are out attending the AAU events there this weekend , as are we . They are riding their signing for this year and getting a solid connection to the East Bay and SAC areas , we used to do so well at recruiting . All depends on who signs who in the end but they have elevated where they were. As have others.

Cal HC Cuonzo Martin has a proven track record with winning basketball, as a HS player in St Louis, college at Purdue, an NBA player, an assistant coach under Gene Kaedey and HC at Missouri St (MVC) +Tennessee (SEC) where he took the Vols to the sweet 16. He also coached USA Baskeball, good résumé for a young 42 year yr old HC. Guys like playing for him and he likes athletic players and a high pace team. As long as he is at CAL they will have a program.

Very positive response to the Aztecs offer, SDSU highlights below.
It was previously believed to be a USC and Gonzaga battle for Mathews, but two schools have joined the mix for his recruitment and he says that all four schools seriously involved are even.
“San Diego State is my new offer and I’m looking at them tough now; they want me to come on a visit,” Mathews said. “Utah is recruiting me too.”
San Diego State: “I’ve seen them play and they develop pros. Kawhi Leonard just signed a max deal and Malik Pope will be in the draft net year. They’re a good team.”

Will be interesting for the last week of the evaluations for the recruits and coaches . Then see what recruits the SDSU coaching staff can set up for a visit and when ? 2016 recruits are going to very important as we lose our whole front line after this year . Building around Zylan and JH , plus hopefully Narain.

Scouts current summary on Jonah Mathews:
All Mathews has done for three straight years on the AAU circuit is produce and this week at the Double Pump Best of Summer, he didn’t break character. Mathews’ top asset is his ability to shoot off the bounce but he also plays hard and has become a much bigger force defensively. He can get to the basket in transition, hit threes and has a high basketball IQ. Mathews is one of the most consistently productive players on the West Coast. USC, Gonzaga, San Diego State and Utah are all pursuing him.

Every west coast coach is in North Vegas watching Matthews and his team play: UCLA, USC, Oregon, Cal, Stanford, Arizona, Gonzaga, Utah, San Diego St, San Diego, Cal Poly, west coast schools at Prospects vs Cal Supreme. Zags and USC were favorites before the July Summer Evaluation period started. Newest tweet from Mathews: "Today was my last AAU game ever it was fun traveling with my team for these past years but now on to bigger things ? #SUPREME"

is he really only 6'1"? For that size, he better be Allen Iverson quick to be a SG. I don't see how he can do our style of defensive trapping at that height. Maybe he can play PG?

Not much shorter than tapley , who wasn't very athletic in his own right. Like tapley is supposed to be a very good shooter. He does have long arms and espn makes it sound like he's a capable defender when engaged and decent slasher.

Be thankful he is coming he for a visit . Let the coaches decide about his size and talents after he is here . Also remember if JH(is he about 6'4 ? ) is the other guard, we can adjust the defense as needed . A lot of D , is being in the correct position to defend and even wanting to play D . Some guys can be 6'6" and not have the speed to stay with quality SG . Plus we need SG's that can score on a consistent basis.
