Grapefruit sculpin, while i never believed i would say it, is better imho I was in Alameda today (SF East Bay) and decided to try a new lunch spot, ended up at Linguini's Pizza and Brew: www.linguinisrestaurant.com/Ordered my usual Guinness with my buffalo wings and then noticed they had Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin on tap (along with another Ballast Point option and 5 or 6 others including Racer 5). Figured I had to give it a try (If I can drink 21st Amendment's watermelon beer: 21st-amendment.com/beers/hell-or-high-watermelon/ why not grapefruit?) after reading some of the comments in this thread! The verdict is in: That's some good $hit!

While Sculpin is a solid IPA and easily to get I'd much prefer a Nelson from Alpine (GF version sucks) or a Pupil from Societe. I'd put those two in the Top 5 IPA's in San Diego.
Since no one has brought up a barleywine I say that AleSmith's Old Numbskull is a fantastic beer and out of this world when barrel aged. But then if you ever see Good from Alpine make sure you order one. It may just be the best barleywine I've ever had.

Are we talking about beer, ale or barley wine?

I finally found Sculpin (bottle) up here in an Oakland and tried it for the first time and my reaction was the same as my first time trying Pliny, "It's good, but it ain't THAT good..."
Maybe on tap it's better?
