Here are some basics...
* While the greatest degree of latitude will be given to those who post on this site, the administrators may on occasion decide that a thread, for any of a number of reasons, needs to be locked or even removed. Additionally, we reserve the right to remove anyone who repeatedly violates forum rules. We hope that this authority will only on rare occasions need to be exercised.
*Be (somewhat) nice. Be civil. Refrain from personal attacks or namecalling. Do not post comments critical of other board members. Address their comments, not the members themselves. Let's keep this a nice forum for our various discussions. (We just don't want endless bickering, and we want this to be a family safe board...)
*We will issue warnings to let you know if you have crossed the line. Continually breaking rules or ignoring warnings will be cause for you to be banned. I don't think this will come up much (if at all), but it's just common sense. A warning is nothing personal, it's just our way of trying to keep things civil and focused on the topics instead of each other.
*If copying text from a copyrighted article to make a point limit it to a key passage or very short paragraph (a couple sentences) and post a link for the full article. Paraphrasing the gist of what the article says in a shortened form would be a better option (along with the link).
*If posting a picture make sure it's work safe. That should be self-explanatory.
*If posting a link to an article/story please do not just post the link and nothing else (especially if the link is to a subscription site). At least post some basic info about said article/story. Even one or two lines of info would be good.
*Spamming is also against forum rules. If you're not sure whether or not you're spamming, you probably are. A link or comment once in a while is not spamming unless promoting or selling something is the sole purpose of your post.
*Posting the same thing over and over again ad nauseum would also constitute spamming.
*Do NOT Re-Post posts deleted by mod staff.
*Do Not quote messages sent by PM on the open board.
*Stirring up trouble by posting a topic with the sole intent of getting a negative reaction is also against forum rules. We don't want 12 page flame wars. Don't start them.
*No classless, mocking the other team when they lose posts/threads. Win with class. Act like you've been there before.
*Do not post comments specifically about other board members or start threads about other board members. Even if the intention is good the results can often become ugly.
*Posts intended to mock the topic itself and derail the thread are prohibited.
*Posts that are disparaging based on ethnicity, religion, or gender are prohibited. Let's just not go there.
*Personal insults towards the players are pretty classless since they are just kids, so let's not go there, either.
*Harassing other board members (repeatedly criticizing them) is also against forum rules.
*Intentionally lying, or intentionally misrepresenting something is grounds for having your privilege to post on The Mesa revoked at the discretion of the Moderation staff. Just don't go there.
FYI...
I just updated the board settings so that each individual member can see his (or her) current warning levels. NO ONE ELSE CAN SEE IT (other than the Mod/Admin staff).
It's meant as a semi-friendly reminder that there are rules to follow and that you have crossed a line that really shouldn't be crossed.
After a previous debacle on the board I thought it would be prudent to let each of you see when you have taken a debate too far into personal attacks, insults, namecalling, etc.
As long as your warning level is relatively low it really is just an FYI, but also a good reminder of the forum rules as well.
Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.
