called this at start. makes total sense - him and rocky coached together at UCLA, he was Rocky's OC for a year at UNM. Toledo was once a very, very effective play caller in the pro set and did lots of double tight end stuff and still loved to throw the ball down the field. We can do a lot worse.

Holy carp. I remember those teams at UCLA. They seemed to score 40+ every game.

Agreed, the dude's name still has some pull with LA area coaches as well.

Former Assistant Long Hires Toledo to Help Him January 19, 2006 | Lonnie White, Times Staff WriterThe three-year coaching hiatus of former UCLA football coach Bob Toledo ended Wednesday when he was introduced as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at New Mexico. Toledo, 59, who had a 49-32 record at UCLA from 1996 to 2002, was hired by Lobo Coach Rocky Long, who worked under Toledo as defensive coordinator for the Bruins in 1996 and '97.

SDSU = UCLA South?
Toledo can coach, probably a better coordinator than HC. His past Pac-10/Pac-12 ties may still be intact and functioning, good for coaching pipelines and recruiting.
People in Westwood still remember him. His past fame can be make waves.

Before Toledo - Total Offense 397 Scoring Offense 29 Toledo - Total Offense 316 Scoring Offense 21 After Toledo - Total Offense 372 Scoring Offense 24 He earned his reputation at UCLA in the mid to late 90's and hasn't done anything since that time.

Interesting reads (bottom of story): www.sfgate.com/sports/article/Things-Looking-Up-for-UCLA-s-Toledo-2799755.php"The Bruins seem destined for a bowl game and still have a shot at the Rose Bowl. It's been a quick turnaround for Toledo, a Bay Area native. Toledo was a quarterback at Lincoln High in San Jose before starting his college career at San Jose State. He transferred to San Jose City College after one year, then turned down some Division I offers to play at Division II San Francisco State in 1966. Toledo made that choice because he wanted to coach, so he wanted to play under the Gators' Vic Rowen, who had one of the nation's most sophisticated passing games at the time. Toledo led the Gators to the 1967 Camelia Bowl against Don Coryell's San Diego State team. Toledo's first head coaching experience came as the junior varsity coach at San Francisco's Riordan High, and he later became the Riordan varsity head coach for two years before embarking on his college coaching career."
