He won't put anything together, he will continue to be the guy he's always been. At times he will dazzle us with the long pass, and befuddle us for long stretches with his maddening inaccuracy. He's inconsistent and always has been, that's not gonna change his Senior year if it hasn't already. I can't help think how ironic it is every time I see Lindley speak with Sipe on the sidelines. Brian might have had the weakest arm of any NFL MVP in history. However, he was a complete gamer who got the most possible out of his modest ability. Ryan is pretty much the opposite.

So here is the million dollar question, who replaces Lindley next year and can that player deliver like or better than Lindley? Probably not. Whoever replaces Lindley will be a first year starter. That said, with Hillman and the TE's, we can have one hell of a year with a shorter passing game built on accuracy, and the occasional deep pass.

I still have confidence in Lindley, but his play today was very disappointing. There were a couple thrown balls that our WRs should have caught, but he was not even close with most of his passes, even when the WRs and TEs were relatively open. I have not looked at stats yet, but think this may be the worst game of his career.
Let's hope he bounces back next week and takes care of business.

And this drives the point home, it's not as if he has lacked quality coaching. This is his third year with Sipe.

Agree 100%. He's too old to be doing this crap. He's starting to remind me of Dugolecki. Come on, Ryan has not thrown a pick six in the flat twice in a game. Hell. Toughto get interceptions when you throw in the dirt and over everyones head all game. ;D

Lindley ended up 23-48 (48%) for 253 yards. It seemed like he played much worse than that, probably because many of his passes seemed very uncharacteristic for him.
Perhaps this game was just "too big" and got in his head? If so, I hope he can use it as a learning experience.

He was very successful at Santa Fe Christian, and one thing Hoke did really well was hire a good staff. If he sucked he probably wouldn't have a job.

Ryan is what he is and that will have to do for 2011 since no other QB is going to start for SDSU.
I think we can all agree that losing today is not the problem. The problem is that we looked bad, really bad, in doing it. Add to that the total inability to stop Army's run game, as well as the fact that Michigan is good but not great, and it all adds up to a big question mark. Can this Aztec team reach 8 wins? Before, I was thinking that 9 or (gasp!) even 10 wins might be possible. Now? No way. I see 8 regular season wins as about the best we can hope for, with 7 wins (acceptable but a bit of a disappointment) at least as likely.
Future games that rate as lost causes or tough chances: BSU, TCU, AFA, CSU, Fresno State. We must win one of those (plus Wyoming, New Mexico, and UNLV) to have a good season. Can we or will be do it? I'm much less confident than before after seeing the Army and Michigan games.
Here's another thought. Based on today's game (which is perhaps an unfair basis for judgment), there is no possible way this program is ready to compete in an BCS conference.

As bad as RL and the WR played, the offensive play calling was the low point in this game. RL has been mediocre so far this season, and the receiving core has been worse. But, when you have one of the best backs in the country you run on first down 70/80 percent of the time. What did we average per run in the first half, 4-5 yards per carry. We were down 14/21 in the first half and we start passing every first down. Don't know what you saw last year but, we were a team that lived off the run. We won because we ran and and then passed. OC play calling sucked and we turned the ball over and still they couldn't't put the game away.

I would have to say Lindley has some consistancy issues. Sometimes he does look like an NFL prospect. Unfortunately, he also has a tendency to throw into triple coverage and miss open receivers. The people who were touting him over Kellen Moore before this season as the 1st Team All MWC QB were mistaken.
That being said, I think Ryan will finish the season strong as his receivers get more comfortable. He throws a terrific deep ball and has a very strong arm.

A bunch of armchair QB's. It's real easy to sit on your ass and complain about someones play. Now, Ryan didn't have a good day and some has to fall at his feet. But, as I've said before, unless you know the play call, the reads and the route, then you don't know the whole story. He looked more erratic than usual today, but he again had some brutal drops. Lockett is a weapon, but he is also at times a drive killer. His routes are loose and he inconsistent hands. Denso had a couple of drops too.
As for the OL, Embernate had his ass handed to him today. The line as a whole made the Mich DL look better than they are.

I think our OL played decent until we got down and had to throw more. The holes weren't huge but Hillman was making plays. Lindley couldn't hit a receiver, Hillman fumbled and we had penalties at bad times and our drives just died. Michigan played well and caused some problems but we caused more problems for ourselves. Spot on.

The play calling was fine IMO. Ryan "Big Game" Lindley left his game and what's between his ears back at the hotel. For a senior, he flat out stunk it up. This was worse than the AF game a few years ago. Sheesh....

Sorry but your memory is very bad. That game was two years ago and although he threw two TD passes, I just checked and they were with 3:26 to play and on the final play from scrimmage on a Hail Mary which VJ Brown caught in the end zone. Considering we were down 26-2 when they first was thrown, both were meaningless. In that game Ryan threw four interceptions and also fumbled the ball on a keeper, which Reggie Rembert recovered and took to the house. Ryan played poorly today but not even close to as badly as he played in that game. What concerns me more is that he apparently let that game bother him since he turned around and considering the opponent, had an equally terrible game the next week at Qualcomm against NMSU. I think with a week off that we're going to play very well against TCU. However, we have no chance of winning that one unless Ryan plays like he's capable of rather than like he did today. With the maturity he now has, I think he will.
