Snell turned down 6 years/$150M from the Yankees - the only team to offer him a contract- him and Boras are asking for 9 years/$270M. Got to wonder if he will eventually sign with the Yankees for a deal close to what they offered. Alternatively, perhaps he will sign a shorter contract, something along the lines of 3 Years/105M. Then maybe he can get that higher yearly value and re-enter FA in a few years. I can't imagine any team going over 150M total, unless the Yankees maybe throw him a bone and do 7 Years/170M. Yeah, a 9 year deal outrageous to me for Snell.

Yeah, a 9 year deal outrageous to me for Snell. Why? Unless it's structured correctly, I wouldn't give him 9 years. He's too old for a 9 year contract. Would you?

Teams are giving out longer AAV deals at a lower annual rate to circumvent the tax issues and lower payroll. It's the way everyone is doing business in the current landscape. You'll take a bath on the last couple of years (who cares?) but it's fine, given how good the stuff is. $25M I would have signed yesterday. Boras is holding up the entire sport here.

Yes, like I said if it's structured correctly. Structure really isn't relevant anymore with how the AAV is calculated, which is why you're seeing longer deals. Snell is better than Nola, who got 7/172M very early.

Casually optimistic about the possibility of Rosario starting the season at third for us in Korea. He's more then capable of stepping up until Machado is ready to go back to third. Which is part of the reason why I think our win projections are off. Rosario will be a big bat off the bench and at DH for us this year as well.
Biggest question is how Jacob Marsee, Bryce Johnson and Óscar Mercado will do in spring training. Bryce Johnson has about 1,000 AB's at the AAA level with an .800 or so OPS. Marsee with the incredible fall league performance and solid play in the minors thus far up to the AA level. Mercado with an OPS near .700 in the bigs with around 900 AB's, and an OPS around .800 over the last few years at AAA. Any one of those three have a chance to secure the starting CF job in my eyes. I expect Preller to let that play out through spring training.

It might not happen before the start of the season, it might happen in the first month of the season. Depends on a number of factors.

A million times no. And the Padres feel the same way, as does every other team in baseball.
