How about a 3-run double to make up for a bit of the above? Not enough. He needs to go on an immediate 50 game hitting streak, bat .480 and drive in 1100.

He just needs to quit the boneheaded base running. The rest will follow.

The good Soto--on base 4 times today.
The bad Soto--apparently went to the Ruben Rivera School of Base Running at some point in his life, wandering around the bases and costing Xander a hit.
The good Soto--bases loaded double that cleared the bases.
Never a dull moment.

The good Soto--on base 4 times today. The bad Soto--apparently went to the Ruben Rivera School of Base Running…blast from the past. Confident that Soto won't go in that direction. But he needs to get clear on who's there to direct traffic on the base pads - and then follow directions. Cry me a Rivera!

Soto an offensive non-participant- once again - in last night’s loss. In the 9th… Can he not bunt? Move a base runner? Sad. But no worse than Machado or Boegarts… three sad amigos, except on payday.

… oops, he did it again - can't catch a ball that goes right into the glove? And it costs the team a run. Thanks, Soto! Any offensive production today? Not so far.

Betts just hit a home run to tie the game.
Soto better hope he can do the same to win it.
But that'll be up to the Padres bullpen.

Would you rather have Betts or Soto, assuming the salaries are equal? One's 30, and one's 24, for starters. Betts sure does seem to come up clutch a lot of times, unlike Soto.

No. Define recency, because Betts has been a clutch guy since Boston. Yes, a generic response. "Clutch" is a boomer term that really doesn't exist. Check out Soto's numbers in "clutch" situations for his career. He's been very, very good across the board.

It's a no brainier, but how a player is currently performing, in let's say the past few years, is relevant. Soto's young enough to have many more "come through in the clutch" moments, etc.... Clutch is a boomer saying? It's a word that everyone in America can relate to, so there's that. Come on now.

Like the article says, I agree that clutch hitting isn't a stat. It's something that some have a knack for over others. I remember Bert (Campy) Campaneris, who is someone they brought up in the article, that if you're rooting for the A's, you want him up to bat in a clutch situation over the bigger stars. He seemed to come through more often than not. It's a real thing.
