We have to assume Hader's blip in July was just that. Other than that time, he's been the most dominant closer in MLB. I'm fine with what we gave up. We still have a lot of trade pieces left.

Yes, Rogers was much worse but Hader also gave up 1 earned run in 1 inning of work in 3 straight games in early July.

One of the things that I loved most about Kevin Towers was his ability to find cheap relievers in trades and fill out a solid bullpen without burning too much in prospects or money to do it.
This trade is the exact opposite of that.

I always wondered how much of that was Darren Balsley.

I always wondered how much of that was Darren Balsley. Balsley was amazing for us. I don't doubt it... Also a SD native, Mt. Carmel High...

With that--2 blown saves vs 7 for Rogers, and Hader has a much higher K/9 innings ratio. As I stated before, Hader > Rogers.

Strikeout rates over the last two months:
Hader - 42% Rogers - 24%

Strikeout rates over the last two months: Hader - 42% Rogers - 24% They are not comparable (obviously). Rodgers is a solid reliever who's low strike out numbers are not ideal for a closer. Hader is a Great closer. I never disputed that.

He's lost horizontal movement on his slider, which is dragging his release point off a couple inches, leading to spin inefficiency and increased movement down and out of the zone. Hope he does well in Milwaukee.

He was a really good talent, but got injured. He liked to put voodoo spells on the opposing team from the dugout. He was hilarious, and a really good teammate.

Taylor Rogers has allowed 21 runs in his last 22 appearances.
Josh Hader has allowed 24 runs in the last two seasons (97 appearances)

This trade is the exact opposite of that. KT was also a pitcher in his day and maybe that helped assessments. We kept taking guys off the scrap heap and turning them into valuable trade pieces after a year or two with us.

Rogers lost his confidence. He is not in a good psychological space. Maybe the trade will help him get it back. Hader, OTOH, is not lacking in the confidence space.
Great trade IMHO.

After you start giving up hits and runs that you're not used to giving up, your confidence starts to fade some. A change of scenery can help. I think Rogers is too good not to bounce back,

Rogers didnt lose his confidence. His quote was something like, "I have X amount of Saves" blah blah. as for the trade, love Hader, but hate that we traded so much to get him when you add in what we traded for Rogers. reminds me of the Seattle trades. on paper you are getting a guy you have targeted, but the sheer size of what you give up increases the likely-hood that you will lose the trades. Tyler France alone is > than everything we gained from the Seattle Trade.
