3 observations from that play by Abrams and Hosmer. Really nice play by both of them, and Abrams looks really young!!!

CJ Abrams can play a major league shortstop. Infield defense for Rogers, as I mentioned, is going to really help him.

Hosmer made two nice digs at first base last night AND went 3-4, accounting for 66 2/3% of the scoring. I'll take that… but I know, we probably won't see that very often - or at least often enough!

The first one was good. The second one was alright, but nobody can seem to figure out his footwork around first base. He's constantly going down to a knee or on the wrong side. Stretching to the throw makes it cover a shorter distance and hit the glove quicker. He went down to a knee and turned his leg away from the throw. Worked out, but it's just something that's going to eventually cost them.

He's shown he can play the position. He'll be fine. Hmmm. Just saw him stretch to the ball on the double play. Yes, he does stretch when needed.

Musgrove has such a nasty curve ball.

I'm going to make comments on obvious things a first baseman should be able to do and provide context for compliments that shouldn't be made because it was, in fact, not a great play. He does it consistently, so it's pretty obvious to anyone who pays attention. Little things matter when they potentially cost your team outs. Gold Gloves are great, but they are nothing more than popularity contests by the BBWAA.

Oh, I didn't think the second was a great play either, so no explanation needed from you. Now, that was something obvious.

I wasn't even originally replying to you, someone commented on it and it deserves mentioning. It's pretty important when your feet are on the wrong side of the bag, you're not stretching off your back knee....that kind of fundamental thing. Just an observation.

And, they closed it out!!!

A nice play is the one Abrams made. Very nice play, as was Hosmer's dig yesterday. That's why Roger's saluted BOTH of them. Think that says enough right there. (Because it says nothing, obviously)...See, I can post a factual argument, or even a mild observation, you immediately scream bias...and then I can post a video, plain as day, and you'll irrelevantly bring up something that doesn't matter. Look at the video. Look at the technique at first base. It's horrendous. He's on a knee, away from the throw, making it a longer throw for Abrams. His back foot should be on the bag, he should be stretching out in front, towards the throw, making it an easier play. Not difficult to see this.

I'll accept this as most likely inexperience from you on the ball field. Hosmer knows it's not going to make it all the way and he doesn't want a short hop, so he stays back as long as he can and makes a very nice dig for the out. There's a reason why Roger's salutes Hosmer as well. Sometimes technique gets thrown out the door when a difficult play is in front of you, and that's how you're comfortable making that play, which he did. And, you're obviously going to use a technique that has worked for you in the past. Only you can poo poo a play like this. Incredible. Your bias/dislike just oozes from you when it comes to Hosmer. At least you're not afraid to show it, but it would be great if you would own it. Not holding my breath, even though you've stated that you don't like him, in the past. Hosmer's off to a great start, and the team can really use that while he's here. Don't you like how's mashing the ball? Drive in the winning run today. I hope he can stay consistent this year.

And if it was isolated to one play and not dozens, it's not a big deal. That's funny though. I'm glad he's off to a good start. It's not going to last. He hit .320 last April.

Look at the historical data. He starts off well and always fades. Team needs every bit of offense it can get at this point and it badly needs some power production. This video always makes me laugh. The greatest hits. youtu.be/Yfvsh8vrEl4

Don't want to say s**t on. Don't need to look at the video, I'm sure it's just you reveling in some lowly Hosmer highlights, which proves, again, your disdain for him, even if it's at the detriment to the Padres. Although it hurts the Padres, you'll revel in a Hosmer error, or bad at bat and laugh. What a shame. You're no Padres fan. Too bad.
