Yes, the USA needs to take Russia seriously, but this is pulling focus from the real threat.....

www.theguardian.com/world/2022/jan/23/russian-ships-tanks-and-troops-on-the-move-to-ukraine-as-peace-talks-stallRussia has over 100k troops on the border ready to deploy, The USA and NATO are on high alert and all American Embassy personnel have been evacuated. Our ghoulish industrial military sector is eagerly hoping for shooting to start, so they can begin profiteering off of weapon sales. Others are wondering if our weakened economy really needs this right now; with a war, the supply train issues could get worse. Plus Biden’s botched handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal and the ephemeral confused sounding press conference last week doesn’t exactly instill confidence in his leadership Putin smells blood in the water. The energy and petroleum interests are certainly playing a part, who gets to sell oil to who is driving this Sabre rattling. Trump’s policy of energy independence was a stabilizing influence for Europe, Biden’s putting the USA back on the OPEC tit has destabilized our own energy position. Expect to see $6/gallon by Spring if things get sideways. If shooting ensues, China will probably be the big winner, pulling our focus from their ambitions and plans.

Pathetic, when you say “my boy” I assume you are talking about…….the same guy every democrat blames for the current administration’s self inflicted disasters. Biden is in a hole and I hate to be cynic, but a conflict could be what his handlers (Obama advisers) needs to bring back the poll numbers. This is a very complex issue, Germany and Russia now control Europe’s gas with the construction of the Nord Stream pipeline. Thanks to Biden’s policies that pipeline is Europe’s primary fuel source, on other words Putin has leverage and he is applying it. Totally unnecessary, the USA should leave this alone.

This administration is hell-bend on war, caring less if 100’s or 1,000’s of Americans die as long as it help in the midterms. There is zero reason why anyone other than Hunter and The Big Guy should care about Ukraine

I keep thinking Biden is this generation’s Neville Chamberlain. His dreadful performance vs The Taliban in Afghanistan is very disquieting. This guy is picking a fight with Russia?
USA’s fighting strength is at an all time high, but that is meaningless if the leadership is incompetent. The Russians will probably start shooting in a couple of weeks. Let’s hope our troops fare better than the BEF in France 1940.

Biden's low polling is due to COVID-19 and the economy, not global politics. Afghanistan was never 'won', the Taliban have been able to move both troops and weapons in and out of the porous Pakistan border since the conflict started. It was an unwinnable war. The entire region of Afghanistan is incredibly mountainous terrain, the country has an ethnically fragmented population, and the Taliban knew it. There are not enough paved roads (literally) connecting the cities in the country to try to maintain order throughout the country with police and military equipment. It's incredibly easy to shutdown certain mountain pass roads and disrupt entire supply chains/troop movements. Ethnically, you have one ethnic group that is on both sides of the Afghanistan/Pakistan border. That makes it really difficult to have law and order along the border.

And....predictably, trump praised Putin today. He's obviously still in awe of the guy and wishes he could have run the US like his buddy runs Russia .

He is just calling it as it is, free of the censorship of the Woke crowd. Putin is running circles around the democrat president so many of you insisted would be better than Trump. Hopefully this conflict stays in Europe…..as I predicted earlier, $6/gallon gas will be here soon. Let’s hope there are no cyber attacks on our infrastructure, having no power would bring chaos to our everyday lives.

He made an insane, illogical, rambling speech praising Putin. He actually suggested the equivalent of invading Mexico. He's dumber than a bag of rocks and it's amazing that the American people elected a reality TV show host to lead the free world. Truly embarrassing. "So, Putin is now saying, 'It's independent,' a large section of Ukraine. I said, 'How smart is that?' And he's gonna go in and be a peacekeeper. That's [the] strongest peace force," Trump said, adding that that was the kind of show of force the United States could use on its Southern border. Yeah, Putin really is interested in "peacekeeping." The only people who use terms like "woke" are Ben Shapiro and Candace Owens, who shouldn't even be qualified to flip pancakes at IHOP. Putin's not running circles around anyone. He's doing what everyone predicted would happen because Ukraine gave up their nuclear arsenal an eternity ago with the support of Russia. Nobody cares about gas prices when nuclear war is on the table.

Well, the separatist parts of Ukraine should gain international recognition and sovereignty. The civil war has been going on for eight years now. The DNR and LNR should be recognized as independent countries. That the US is not willing to do so just shows that US geopolitical goals (to weaken Russia, and strengthen democracy/republics) is what matters most to the US.
A bigger (more open) question is, what is the best long term diplomatic solution? Yanukovych's government was overthrown in 2014, his government was pro Russia. The DNR and LNR in the Donbass region similarly are pro Russia as well.
The country is split in the primary language spoken (Russian vs Ukrainian) largely along lines similar to the regions of Ukraine where Yanukovych won in the 2010 elections. It might make the most sense to split Ukraine in half, and allow the Russian speaking/pro-Yanukovych regions of the country to have independence from the rest of Ukraine.
So while it's easy to be quick to condemn Russia, Crimea and the Dombass region are by and large Russian speaking regions of Ukraine who like Putin.

The main reason Putin pulled the trigger is he perceives (probably correctly) the leading NATO country has a weak leader with a dizzy giggling woman second in line. The botched Afghanistan withdrawal has emboldened Putin to action. He wouldn’t have dared tried this with Bush, Clinton or Reagan at the helm. Ok, enough finger pointing. Pray the lights in our country stay on. Pray the skies and oceans stay clear. Pray for peace.

I am sure California will soon belong to Mexico then. Or perhaps even China …

No. In the end it doesn’t really matter what you or I believe, it’s what Putin believes that really counts. Ukraine is toast and will be overwhelmed in two more weeks. The US needs to bolster Poland, Latvia, Estonia and the other NATO states immediately, Putin has stated he wants those back under Russian control as well.

Maybe the US will help in some capacity at some point but where’s our real attention right now? Yeah, it’s China. So I’m not worried about the US getting involved in a war until China makes a move.
