Wouldn't it be great if Arop was MVP of our victory at UNLV on Sunday?

Wouldn't it be great if Arop was MVP of our victory at UNLV on Sunday? be even better if it was the Final Four!

He is our best shot blocker now without Mensah and he will be critical in the tournament when we play big and athletic front lines. Wetzell will get in foul trouble in a few critical games and Arop and Narain will have to come up big for us to advance.

I feel for the kid. Playing with a torn hip labrum last year, has surgery to repair that as well as a structural issue in the joint, and then suffers a shoulder separation this year. It would be nice for him to just be relatively pain free for a season.

However, to make the Elite 8 we'll have to beat a blue blood and it will be tough without N. Mensah to disrupt the rim and rebound. Then...getting to the Final Four we'd have to beat a Kansas/Duke/Kentucky. Those teams have size and depth. Anything is possible and I love the way our boys are playing, but it's going to be tough without N. Mensah.

As somebody with right shoulder issues since HS, sometimes an awkward move, combined with contact can cause a painful stabbed-in-the-shoulder feeling. It's very short-term as in a few minutes. If Arop said he's fine, I think this happened based on his response of fine and his face when it happened I sure hope this is it - we could really use him down the stretch. Arop saying he could have returned to the game shows this might be the case. I hope so too.

Arop has only been back a few games and he is still playing into shape. Give him a break. What were you expecting? 24 points and 18-20 rebounds, and 8-9 blocks per game? Not asking for too much are we? At least he is playing, and as he gets his legs and game back you will see improvement. He had to be taken to the locker room last night against Wyoming when he took a spill under the basket. No one said he was under performing!! He was holding his arm down to his side! Oh, but I'll bet you and others were probably thinking that. I saw him walk back into the locker room, and come back later, although he did not get back into the game. He is probably very tender there, and not sure what he will be able to do at Las Vegas, if he plays at all.

we definitely need arop for certain matchups. We will really miss mensah when we go up against a lot of size.

In reading the article . AG said he is fine , and wants to play , but would guess Dutcher needs to get official clearance from the medical staff . There was no practice Wednesday so will be interesting to hear what if any information comes out of practice in the next few days.
You can also figure that opposing teams are going to really make extra effort to get Yanni in foul trouble . UNLV does have a physical guy at the 5 that averages 9 points and 9 rebounds . Plus others with size . Also important that Matt stay out of foul trouble .
If AG does play - you can also guess that teams will also be physical with him .
This is great opportunity for the other guys up front to contribute & get the PT - Nolan , Joel , Keshan . Need the guys to focus on the things the team needs most defense , rebounding , passing , avoiding TO's setting screens and making FT's . Not exactly the glory things but what the team really needs and can make them really feel they are contributing .

Doing is their big guy. He shoots 68% FT so we can throw Joel and NN in there to use up some fouls.

At luncheon today Dutcher said he won't practice for 2 days and will be checking with doctors before playing and AG did say he was fine. Also said he hope's to have NM back before end of season, so maybe a little hope? Have to say Dutcher is way more gregarious, upbeat and at ease than I thought he would be. 20-0 might have something to do with it?

Put those guys out their if nothing else to get experience and mix it up a bit(maybe a little more physical). No reason to wear out the starters when they are not needed.

Dutcher said he "hopes". I would think if he was definitely out he wouldn't of mentioned it? Everyone at our table picked up that immediately. I would of thought that he was out rest of season but....

Per UT 1/24
AG was held out of practice Thursday - and scheduled to see an orthopedist . To try to determine if he re-injured the right shoulder or merely re tweaked it . Dutcher should have better idea on Saturday . They think he maybe better then first thought but will have to wait and see - even possibly a day or two how he is able to perform .
Diong is not the best FT - ( think he is similar % as Yanni ) but only if he is going to get easy basket and then by reserve - but do not want to load them up with fouls so they get in bonus for some of their other players . Definitely do not need the fouls on Yanni or Matt or the flagrant ones .

Diong was 4 of 4 FT in his last game .
think B.Hamilton is still having troubles at FT line but as we can see - things can change but he is scoring well
they do get a lot of rebounds 44 in their last game - could be trouble for us if AG can not play and other guys do not step up - we have had major problems since Nathan 's illness . Need every position to help out on the boards and for Yanni and Matt to avoid fouls .
Is time for our reserves to step up and help with the rebounding - great way to earn some additional PT
