It was Queta's second game back. The guy was way out of shape. He's playing much better now. Team is starting to gel. In spite of their rocky start in conference, they're still the most dangerous opponent left on our schedule. And Queta was fine in that game. 9 and 9. It was other guys who struggled mightily. Bean was a total non factor. My point still stands. I would put this game at 2nd most dangerous, behind closing game at Nevada. Not really. There were multiple possessions when he looked ridiculously slow. There were even USU fans after the game who thought he may be taking it easy so as to not jack up his knee and further risk $ by way of his projected draft pick. He put up 9 and 9 while sill trying to get his sea legs underneath him. By contrast, if you watched any of their recent games, you see a legit mid-1st round pick who significantly quicker with more hop in his hop and is bringing more effort than he did in our game in Logan. Idk if they're necessarily playing at a higher level per say - they neat LSU and FLA in OOC - but they are playing at a high level and a large part of that is Queta is finally back up to speed. IMO the most dangerous game on our sked is the next game, full stop.

He was almost always the last person to cross half court on both offense and defense. I don't expect that to be the case tomorrow.

When at full strength Q is very good on both ends of the court - can defend and block shots . He is also 7 Ft and wide wing span . Plus can score in a variety of ways that could be difficult for Yanni to defend and not get into foul trouble

Yes, he dragged a little, but I underestimated his production. He had 15 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocks. Wetzell was held to 10 and 5. Quetta performed not just fine, but exceedingly well for being out of game shape. There was only one time that it looked like his lack of fitness didn't allow him to contest a layup. Otherwise he wasn't the problem for USU. It possibly hurt him on the O glass as well. The Aztecs shut down Bean, Porter, Brito and their bench. Feagin harassed Merrill all day. We can and will almost certainly be heavily favored to beat them on Saturday, without Mensah. Can we lose? Of course, it's college basketball.

That being said, just to clarify, when I say "the toughest game is the next game," I don't necessarily mean USU per say (though certainly true in this case), but rather that from here on out, every next game is going to be the toughest remaining game on their sked. It comes with the territory when you're ranked top five, undefeated in Feb, and the lone crown jewel in this sh¡tshow of a conference.

He also seemed to really have issues with his knee brace in that game. He slowed down to adjust it several times during transition from D to O and vice versa. I'm assuming he switched to a better fitting one for the next game(s).

He still appears to be a bit out of shape. Watching the last couple of games he doesn’t go for extended periods of time but when he’s in, he’s definitely a load!!

Per 2/1 UT
AG has not practiced all week - seems doubtful for the USU game - hurts our rebounding and defense if he can not play
Also Trey P has had the flu - so not sure if he will play also - could be a problem if Malachi or Feagin get in foul trouble or need a break -

I dunno but Joel really seems to have digressed a bit. I sure hope he can develop more in the off season.

AG and the guys have a bye then play AT AFA next Saturday- we are going to need AG Yes. But must point out we were saying that before UNLV. Before New Mexico. Before Utah State. So.... Yes, we need him. And we REALLY need Nathan for the tournament. But, until then, it's five fingers. One fist. Aztec basketball.

AG was doing strength and conditioning before the game. Running stairs, etc. He could’ve played, but obviously they’re being super cautious with him because of how quickly he reinjured it last time. Need him healthy for March #1.
