You guys are fighting a losing battle with Ryan. He’ll use the stats to always make his point even though they may not really be all that important. He’ll wear you down😲

Yes? That's what the slash line represents. Player A is what Eric Hosmer has been for the majority of this season. Player B is essentially Franmil Reyes. First of all, your response was to Josh's comment, so I wasn't sure if it was a question for me. And I would take pretty much anyone hitting .280 over someone hitting .240. Second of all, it most certainly isn't an overreaction.

But I don't agree with him concerning the perceived value that Trammell might bring to the Padres in the coming years. We disagree. Not that big of a deal. The joys of baseball.

Both Hosmer and Reyes are essentially replacement level players (ouch) but the point being illustrated is that one side of the fence prefers batting average, the other power. I'm not going to worry about Trammell at all until next year. Silly to be focused on 100 plate appearances. I wouldn't be worried about a guy like Hudson Potts, either.

I’m not saying Ryan doesn't know what he’s talking about because obviously he spends a lot of time with analysis. All I’m saying is that Reyes could hit 50 homers and Ryan would say his defense and his WAR would make him expendable even though he’s young and his body type doesn’t give him any chance to improve his defense.

Wrong. The instant Franmil left the clubhouse the Padres bats have gone into hibernation and the team has slumped into non relevance. Renfroe had 29 HRs befor the break, 2 since. Machado was red hot going into the break hitting .280, he has been ice cold since, his avg has dropped 15-20 pts with just 2 HR’s. Nobody is hitting with the one exception of Mejia. The team has played poorly and that is a fact. And that has what to do with Franmil? Do you actually watch the games? Franmil’s presence in the lineup made a difference. Renfroe, Machado, Tatis and Reyes carried the offense in the 1st half, Preller broke that up for a guy who might make it up to the majors next July. The game right now is about the long ball.

AztecRyan and I agree on most aspects of baseball, stats, etc. We see eye to eye on most things.
I just don't agree w/ him on Trammels perceived value. But like I am quoted as saying, the jury is still out.
At some point, you have to separate projections, "tools" and raw athleticism/ability from actual PRODUCTION.
If they do not bark as a puppy, they likely wont bite as a dog. We'll see. Right now, Trammel has a .513 OPS in AA ball.
Next year is a big, big year for him.

I also am semi concerned that Cincy was so willing to move a "Top 30 prospect" for a pitcher that they likely know they are getting for one and a half seasons and has made it clear he is hitting the market after next season. Its not like they were contending legitimately this year.
I guess they are "all in" for 2020?

His presence in the lineup created a ridiculous back to back situation with Renfroe that destroyed any kind of balance or efficiency. You're making a big leap here. Franmil wasn't carrying anything - He couldn't produce outside of a solo home run (He holds the major league record for fewest RBI's with 25 or more home runs)....He was one of the worst hitters in baseball with runners in scoring position in particular. He showed no ability to cut down his approach with 2 strikes, especially against power pitchers (32 strikeouts in 69 AB's). The team is actually producing a slightly better slash line in the 2nd half. The game will be about the long ball until this offseason, when they make changes to the ball (again)....You should want the Padres to cut down on below average players if you want to see them win.

In fact, they probably rank bottom 10 in the league in their ability to produce. And yeah, they are gearing up for a last hurrah with a declining Joey Votto.

My high school field was and still is bigger than many of the ballparks. It's a joke!!

Look around - Plenty of smoke and fire that even though they say they didn't willingly ask the ball to be manipulated, they know the end result. It's actually having the opposite effect. Games are more boring than ever, fewer balls are being put into play. The difficult thing is now that MLB (and Padres owner Peter Seidler) own Rawlings. I think they change it back, although they won't admit to it.

First, you're not concerned about 100 plate appearances. Now, you're not concerned (or claim no one "in professional circles") about almost 400 plate appearances is either. Sorry, but I am. That is over 2/3 of a minor league season, and he just hasn't shown very much. I just wonder if he is going to the Fall League again this season, or at least send him to the Instructional League.

I'm not concerned about his time in Amarillo. Nobody in professional circles, save for a small dent in his FV, seems worried about his issues this season. Two separate things there, but wanted to be clear. Prime candidate to be in the AFL.

Reyes hits a three run homer, the third straight game he’s homered. Oh well😲😲
