I wonder if he'll be tearing up at his SDSU media conference the same way he did when landed his dream HC job at Michigan? Nah. Go Blue. Oldie Out

No problem with Hoke coming back. There seems to be some type of link between the Aztecs and Michigan. Fisher, Hoke....next up...the guy who gets run out of Ann Arbor because he can't beat the Buckeyes? And we know he loves San Diego. Wicker better be ready to pull the trigger when he becomes available.
Just something think about.

If a 60-something coach still has ambitions to be an FBS head man, but knows his P5 days are over, it would be a smart play for him to position himself at a solid mid-level program where he is already well known, had some success, and earned respect.
Add in the likely prospect of a new on-campus stadium in a few years and SDSU presents Hoke with an opportunity to finish what he started and leave a legacy. And having him standing by as Long’s apparent successor would do a lot to calm the fears of boosters who are worried about the upcoming post-Rocky era.
If he’s back as HCIW, I’m all for it. He was out of his depth at Michigan, but he remains a good fit here.

Wait to give the keys to a guy who has proved he is nothing more than a mediocre head coach? He was better than Chuck Long. That's it. Everything else he has done at the helm here and elsewhere the last decade plus had been underwhelming. If this is what all strive for for the future of the fb program, save the money on the stadium and build something else.

Good recruiter, good line coach, good disciplinarian (at least from outward appearance). I'm good with it. Really don't care that he went to Michigan.

I like it, but the one downside is MOW will be back, in full force, waiting for Rocky to sneeze the wrong way, so he can call for Brady to take over. We'll also have Hoke's "Well.....you know....." responses to every media question. But other than those two things.......welcome back Coach Hoke! Look at you. Gettin' digs in while my back was turned.

takes a real man to comeback after he left the way he did. he knows what was said about him. as far as I am concerned he is an Aztec 4 Life He knows much of what was said about him was untrue. Whether or not he'll say his side of it remains to be seen. He's got a think skin, so he probably won't. Plain and simple, he's a good coach with a great relationship with the HC. He comes back with even more experience to draw from. I really like the hire.

I understand your concern about building a stadium if the administration and wealthy donors are not all in to properly fund the football program rather than operating one on the cheap. However, I do not share your skepticism about Brady Hoke. As I believe someone else surmised, perhaps the Peter Principle was at play. I know it once was for me and four years in, I quit a job for which I lacked the proper skill set. That was a quarter century ago and it was a great experience in hindsight in that I learned where my strengths lie and where they do not and I've been quite successful ever since. Coach Hoke did a great job of cleaning up the dumpster fire Chuck Long created so until he proves to the contrary, he has my full support in this second go round on Montezuma Mesa.

Uh, he has proved to the contrary. Very clearly, in fact. Better yet, name one good football team he has beat as a HC in the last decade. He's a good DL coach. Glad to have him for that.

In 2011, he beat 9-win Nebraska and 11-win Virginia Tech. In 2012, he beat 10-win Northwestern. In 2013, he beat 9-win Notre Dame. Those may not have been good teams in your book but they were in mine. To be clear, I'm not advocating he should become our HC again. However, we could do worse and with Craft and C. Long, we definitely did and although Wicker didn't hire those two, if you don't think he's capable of bringing in somebody that bad, you have far more trust in the man's judgment than do I.

It occurs to me that Brady is NOT here to glide into retirement as a DL coach. There is more to this equation than simple math. A quadratic equation perhaps? We'll likely find out this December.
