He made tons of money at Michigan and the pro and at 60 it's time for him to start thinking about building his football legacy at one place.

Historians will recall the return of Claude Gilbert helped to extend the tenure of Ted Tollner. Not saying history could repeat itself, but assuming this latest comes to pass, as always, Aztec football supporters shall see.

Now all we need to do is hire an OC coach and we are back in business. Does Rocky Long's rolodex have Art Briles phone number??

I hope this is legit. Hoke lost his luster the last few years with bad timing decisions with his career. Being in places for a short time, getting canned with the head coach who got whacked. However, it doesn't change the fact he's always been a helluva D Line coach even performing these duties as HC here. The good coaches change their players' on-field personalities for the better. Hoke is one of those coaches who makes his players meaner and more physical. That's exactly what this defensive line needs after being pushed around the last couple of seasons. I agree. Very happy with this hire. I remember when Hoke was hire as head coach, Demarco Sampson showed up late to a meeting. Hoke looked at him and said don’t bother coming in since you showed up late and told Sampson to leave. At the end of that year Sampson admitted that he had a bad attitude earlier in the year, and credited Hoke for getting his head screwed on right. I would be more than happy having Hoke becoming the head coach once Long retires. He is a really good recruiter and believes in good disciplined football. He also does a good job promoting the football program. This eliminates the fears I had of Horton being the head coach in waiting....whatatrain wreck that would have been. Welcome back coach Hoke!!!

Welcome back, coach Hoke. I like this. Brady is a big reason why Aztecs football has become so successful. This move speaks a lot about Rocky Long and his character, not that we didn't know already.

I agree wholeheartedly with this. The few who are complaining about this hire forget the mess that Hoke inherited the first time around. I am very happy about this hire. Finally, some good news coming out of the football program!

Finally, some good news coming out of the football program! I think we only won 3 games his first year, but it was so obvious how more organized we looked on the field and were so much better with the eye test. Then the next year obviously we won 9 and had a great year. Stoked that he is back with SDSU. He's a very likeable, charismatic guy too. I used to really enjoy him speaking at the luncheons and having him promote our program

I don't think Rocky should get to pick his replacement either. Once Coach Long Retires you have a national search for the best coach available. With what we can pay Hoke probably is the best coach available. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a very astute observation. Maybe we could find a highly respected man eager to be a head coach again, and willing to take a lower salary. The obvious examaple of this is Steve Fisher. However, another Fisher-type find would be, in my opinion, hard to come by. I do not want a first time FBS head coach. Let's not (A) take a chance on an inexperienced man or (B) hope that we can hit the Fisher-type jackpot a second time. The odds of either are slim. The two names I would suggest are Brady Hoke and Bobby Hauk. Both are good coaches, and both know the situation here. Let's face it, if we don't go for either of those two, we are not going to get Urban Myer to come out of retirement. AzWm

I think Brady will be gone before Rocky retires, which would mean he was once again successful here. I used to always thank him after games for bringing back some toughness to this program. Thank you Coach Hoke. I do not understand. Are you saying that Hoke might be so successful as a position coach under Long that he would be hired by a P5 school? AzWm

I think making Hoke the DL coach was filling a requisition more than a description of Hoke's coaching responsibilities. It also addresses Coach Long's thoughts about recruiting regions. I am looking forward to the next 3 years.
