Hope that '17 is brighter. Last year's preseason looked like this. Down year, down recruiting. Nevada good year, up in '17 recruiting/transfers.

would guess the Aztecs are done adding guys for the 2017 team that can play in 2017 ? Maybe a regular transfer that sits 2017 and plays starting in 2018 . Or rolls leaves the scholarships for the 2018 class .
Think Butler coach will take over for the Buckeyes , and he could take assistants that do not get the HC job at Butler . So are there guys that may want to leave Butler ?

Based on what Dutcher just said the team we have is what we have. Surprised considering Rooks is very injury prone. Hope that yoga makes him strong.

For the 2017 roster , major need was a quality 5 that can play this year . We did not get Wooten HS player . Or Ahmed or a couple of other Grad transfers . We did sign 7 ft Kameron Rooks who Can play this year - how much of a contribution will he will , could depend on his health and condition . Will Nolan and he be a solid combo at the 5 ? We will see . Could allow Malik , Jaylen , Max , Teki to handle the 4 and 3 positions .
Regular Transfers that sit 2017 but play in 2018 . did not get Jeter or the guard from Utah . Vance Jackson and Kavell - BW per Dutcher sounds doubtful that either will sign here .
So means we do have Transfer Devin Watson and Jalen ( red shirt ) , plus the 2 HS recruits Jordan and Adam . Total of 11 guys .
2018 staff could have as many as 5 scholarships to use wisely - replace Malik , Trey , Kameron . AAU Evaluations events in July . After that.Major importance getting quality HS guys in for Visits and then Verbal . Competition will be fierce for the better recruits . Does seem we have more offers this year but boils down to who we can sign .

They needed Brandon McCoy. To have him go to UNLV just makes it even worse. Recruiting is the life blood of college basketball. Aztecs need to pick it up.

UNLV over SDSU from a local kid, I would understand Oregon or U of A, but the Struggling Rebs? (I know he has a family connection there, but why go to Hot Vegas?)

Because historically it's a strong program (top 25 if you go by the history of the AP poll), has great facilities, is a fun city (BB is an INDOOR sport) & most of all it's AWAY from home while also being the focal point of the program, both of which are very important to many athletes.

Yep, that's what I was thinking. All Tark's kids ran around in designer suits and crocodile shoes.

Next year is going to be make or break. 6 available schollies. Technically 5, unless someone else leaves (2 open + Rooks, Kell & Pope). Per usual, I'd expect us to keep a couple open for a spring transfer and a potential mid-year transfer during the 2019 season, meaning we'll probably only sign 3 HS players (unless we strike gold). Definitely a big year though.

As of today 5 open scholarships seems correct for 2018 -19 season . Signing quality guys is paramount then just signing to get up to 13 . Having X amount of offers is great- then the hard parts - getting those quality guys to visit and then Sign them . Going to be major recruiting battles to sign them . If we can get 2 to 4 quality guys then go for it but if not then use it for transfers - even that has not been easy .

I think if we manage to place in the top 3 in the MWC at seasons end we'll be able to shake all the naysayers. Time for Dutch to take the bull by the horns.

If we finish 3rd in league this year AMesa will self-immolate until Dutcher can't even get a job at the Aztec bookstore.

OOC is the key for most non P6 schools for an at large MM bid . Aztecs and other MW teams that hope to get a bid, need to be in a close position to earn one by the time OOC is done . Need to win quality OOC games .

Mentioned elsewhere, but we have a recruit visiting this weekend. Not sure if he's a HS kid or a transfer - Dutch didn't go into detail, but followed up with "the reason we're still recruiting this late is due to XXX transfers; 40% of everyone who signs eventually transfers....", so guessing it's a transfer.
Kid from ASU? Any other guesses?

That'd be nice, but he's committing Friday (before weekend) & Dutch implied it was for THIS year not 2018.
