As I said the coaches did a Good Job getting Ahmed , Jeter and Wooten here but were not able to sign any of the three - also all three recruits names were posted .So names do get out there . As did the transfer guard from Utah I have NEVER said the coaches were Lazy - or they are not trying . Believe you agreed it has not been easy for the Aztecs to sign quality guys that play the 5. So yes the coaches may have to work even more to get the job done . that is the goal. SIGNING a Quality 5 .
I have not said we are not done recruiting for 2017 or the sky is falling . on the contrary feel if we could Sign a quality 5 our team could be very good . IMO we are missing a physical guy down low .
To me it is important and there is a bigger selection in May then in July

The 6'10 Myles Johnson from Long Beach Poly commits to Rutgers, underrated and ranked 3-star. He is a guy I thought would have been good for us over the next few years. Has size and strength, came on strong in his senior year. High GPA in addition to IQ.

Mizzou adds 6'10" four-star center Jeremiah Tilmon. Few big men left in '17.
Marin with a top 10 recruiting class.

Besides Rooks - some other options for transfers both being strongly recruited: Akoy Agau( has 2 to play -immediately ) , Mikyle McIntosh ( if he does not go NBA ). Also Walter Foster - likes to rebound and block shots . Blaise Mbargorba
Is there a Dead period starting this Thursday for about 10 days ?

3-star 6'9 215 PF Jakoby Kemp out of Utah was released TODAY by Mizzou from his LOI. www.rockmnation.com/2016/6/29/12055466/jakoby-kemp-commits-to-missouri-basketball-scholarship-roster-implications"Kemp is a 6’9 (or 6’10 — depending on the publication) forward from Layton, Utah. Layton is a community south of Ogden, north of Salt Lake City. Kemp is a supremely under the radar prospect due to his being a bit of a late bloomer and an injury during his junior year that limited his ability to participate in the AAU cicuit. I’ve heard from various sources that Kemp grew five inches in the last year..."

interesting Mizzu signs J.Tilmon , then release JaKoby - did he red shirt last year ? so would he have to sit 2017 if he transfers , and then have how many to play ? Can Sterk help us out ? We could use a quality guy
Also there are rumors that assistant Coach Michael Porter middle son may try to re classify and take the open scholarship and play in 2017. He is rated a top 50 player . Michael Jr Porter who transferred into Mizzu for 2017 is rated one of the top 5 players .

Jeter to Zona

Post by standiego on May 16, 2017 20:11:13 GMT -8
Jeter is going to have to sit in 2017 , then have 2 years to play starting in 2018 . So maybe we sign Kavell - B-W from the Ducks for 2018
So for 2017 team Grad transfers : Rooks, Agau , McIntosh ,Foster , Mbargorba , Coleby, Kasongo , N'diaye, Bhuller .....

Jeter is gone .
We need to stay focused on the Grad transfers, maybe JC guys , that can play the 5 and want to play here .
some other names out there besides the other list, Darien Williams ( from the Bay area ) , Joel Angus , Jordan Madrid - Andrews ...
would guess coaches are working on the various guys to see who would be interested

I don't think it'd be going out on a limb to say we will add any impact players either. A lot can happen between now and September.

Thank you for coming out so boldly to let everyone know you're not going out on a limb when you say you're being pessimistic. We have been waiting for news like this for quite a while and now many can rest easy knowing for sure you are not going out on a limb.

Just suggesting my perspective on the state of recruiting, which I find to be fairly abysmal at the moment.

There are some quality 5's still out there - IF and big IF we can sign one, could really help the team on offense and defense . There are not a lot out there so next couple of weeks are very important . Plus with limited quantity pressure there to sign a quality guy . Believe Rooks visits June 1 . Akoy Agau is another but close to signing with SMU . Also the transfer from Kansas or Walter Foster / Townsend . Darien Williams . Could provide a good combo with Nolan . Frees up Malik to play best position for the team be it the 3 or 4 . Jalen , Max at the 4 , Teki as back up at the 3 or Trey .... or Jordan ? Gives the coaches a wide variety of options .
The grad transfer 5 may not be a double double guy but could be the physical guy the team needs down low . .

We've added SEVERAL difference makers between June & August in the past, so no reason to think we won't this summer. As for recruiting overall, it's MAY!! The 2018 class hasn't even started to take form, yet you're pissing all over this class? We add Watson, McD, Schakel & Seiko this year, which is among the most talented influx of talent of ANY team in our conference this year. Yea, that sucks.

For 2017 and subject of this post , would guess the majority of the remaining quality grad transfers, may make their selection of schools by mid June . We can all hope we can sign at least one quality 5 .To me that is the most important part to finish off the 2017 squad .Physical guy down low for both ends of the court . Could be an important part of the 2017 team . Helps to free up Malik , Jalen .... to play their natural positions .
2018 recruiting - should be separate post - unless we are talking about regular transfers . For 2018 HS guys - July AAU events are usually very important and then visits happen . Then guys used to make Verbal . Have things changed ? Every recruit has their own priorities as to what they want from a school . In realistic terms - doubt we are in the mix for top 25 guys and more likely guys "rated " 50 to 250 .

Every recruit has their own priorities as to what they want from a school . In realistic terms - doubt we are in the mix for top 25 guys and more likely guys "rated " 50 to 250 . From the players side the primary thing that's changed is more & more players are waiting until the late signing period if not even after that (Bowen, Bamba, Walker, etc.) to make sure things are more settled (i.e. no coaching changes, being recruited over, players leaving/staying for pro's, etc.). Some still sign & then seek a release, but the general trend is towards more late signings. From the coaching side, more & more teams are keeping open slots after the fall to allow for transfers, etc. Used to be most teams would be "full" (13 committed for following year) by November, even over-committing. Nowadays some teams keep a couple open just in case, and then even have more space after guys transfer out (i.e. Oregon). We have 3 open, of which I'd expect us to fill no more than 2 this summer, keeping 1 spot open for next year or a mid-year transfer (unless we can get a Rooks, Bib-Will AND Daniels). Add in 3 spots for 2018 (Kell/Pope & grad transfer), and I'd be surprised if we sign more than 1-2 in the early signing period and then 2 later (including transfers). The one thing that is always true about recruiting is that it's fluid..
