The way Ziegler writes, it sounds like a slam dunk.

The way Ziegler writes, it sounds like a slam dunk. Sure does. He basically says without directly saying it Watson is coming to SDSU. Just hope the ghost of Akili Smith doesn't raise it's ugly head.

Agree. A Watson, Izundu sweep sure would be nice. Yes it would especially after the chicken bleep story from Parish screwed us in the early signing period

I'll like to have him for PG depth, but why would he come here to be Hemsley's backup?

I'll like to have him for PG depth, but why would he come here to be Hemsley's backup? Watson did not visit any school except SDSU on his list. His Dad said they were familiar with UNLV from AAU days (which is being polite because it's a new coaching staff so they are effectively out based on that comment) and CAL because they were in the Bay Area. Like many had said on this thread, we really could have used his speed. Announcing in Oceanside...on Mother's Day...with Zeigler saying we are the favorite...with Watson wanting to come to SDSU two years ago but did not show the talent yet. Yep I think we are a lock - welcome home kid! To address your comment...Hemsley is going to take a major leap next season. Maybe it's just me but with Winston gone this is his team now and I am thinking we will see a Jamal Franklin level of improvement. When Watson comes in, Hemsley will slide over to the 2 and we may see some 3 guard sets with Kell like Boise St used to beat us up with 2 years ago. Queue the Bart Scott can't wait guy...

Dwill, dakarai, and shrigs will be gone by the time he can play. He will be taking their time, not Hemsley's. Watson will play the true PG, Hemsley's a combo guard, and kell can focus on shooting lights out. There are other schools such as UNC that love playing dual PG's simultaneously.

There's 80 minutes of playing time at the two guard spots, and if we play a 3 guard set for 10 min a game with Kell at the 3, then suddenly all 3 guards can play 30 minutes a game.
I think we are so used to being 1 deep at point guard that we've forgotten what a luxury and advantage it is to have multiple guys who can play point.
Pair those guards with Tique, Zylan, Narain, Hoetzl, McDaniels and another young big or transfer and that's a stacked team.

I'm sure him, Hemsley and Kell will play at the same time occasionally but I wouldn't expect that to be the norm.

A lot of what Coach Fisher does, in terms of lineups, is dictated on defensive match-up as much as it does about scoring...
As every Aztec fan knows (or should know)...the Aztecs are a "defense first" team...although it appears that most wants want it the other way around because offense is "sexy"...
Aztec players earn PT with the defense NOT their offense
A 3-guard set might work offensively (and might work defensively with the right match-ups)...but it certainly won't be used on teams who play really "long"

We need a real point guard. Watson has more assists than Hemsley and Kell combined. We have had JJ and then Shepard creating at PF over the past two seasons. The lack of a creator could be a weakness going forward without a player like Watson. There will be plenty of time available for the other guards. Hemsley can log minutes at PG and SG. As others have pointed out, Shrigley, Allen, and Williams will be gone before Watson steps on the floor. In addition, Kell will be gone after he plays one year. Having too many good players is not a problem. Aztecs may value defense more than other teams and be really good at implementing defense, but who plays is not exclusively a defensive decision. Who plays still is a function of overall value. A large part of that value is offense.

The way Ziegler writes, it sounds like a slam dunk. Sounds as good as $1.49 nuggets!
