If Watson comes (and I'm not saying he will or won't just playing the hypothetical) and Pope leaves before then, in 2017-2018 this would be the scholarship roster assuming no transfers left on the team. Freshman:None, from the sounds of things Jalen McDaniels is ready to contribute to what level who knows, but even if we get Izundu I do not see him redshirting. Sophomore: PF: Nolan Narain (redshirt year used) PF: Jalen Mcdaniels Juniors: PG: Devin Watson (redshirt year used) PG: Jeremy Hemsley SG/SF: MGC (redshirt year used) PF: Zylan Cheatham SF/PF: Max Hoetzel (redshirt year used) Seniors: PG Jeremy Hemsley We need to bring in a center, and 2 wings at least to start. And it's doubtful we will use all 13 scholarships unless we get multiple high level transfers. BTW assuming we get some decent depth around that, that team could be very special. Think you meant Trey as your Senior (not Germs), and I'd classify Germs as a 1/2 & Trey as a 2/3 for 2017-18 season.
As for another PG in the 2017 class, as noted, most these days are combo guards like Hemsley, so we easily could add a CG in the 2017 class much in the mold of Hemsley. He wouldn't get a lot of time on the court, but neither would any wing. Both would be behind a rotation of Germs/Kell/MCG/Watson/Hoetzel for the 1-3 spots with all 5 capable of playing multiple positions. PG would be Germs/Watson, SG would be Kell/Germs, SF would be MCG/Kell/Max. McD could develop into a 3/4 as well. So ANYONE you bring in, whether they're a PG or a wing, would be unlikely to make the rotation. Unless of course they're a great talent, in which case they could bump anyone at ANY position.
Given that, you bring in the best talent available at any position for 2017, whether it be a PG, CG, W or Post. I do agree we'll most likely sign 3 via HS + 2 transfers, but you never know. Depends on who's out there & interested among the HS talent. I do believe target #1 is a Center/Post though which, if not a kid who can contribute instantly out of HS, could come from the JC ranks.
The good thing is that roster right there is enough to be successful. Anything on top of that is frosting for the '18 season, and a great launching pad for '19.

Great video with some highlights from his freshman year at USF and some from this past season as well. Kid can flat out PLAY. Great change of speeds and direction in his game. Elite vision and passing and above average shooter. Would be a boost for just about any program in the country. He went to work on Gonzaga earlier this year and dropped 20 in the first half and 33 for the game. We would absolutely be a better team with him.

Saw Watson play at the Torrey Pines tourney in high school, he is a player. He would definitely be a welcome addition.

Hemsley will be a junior in this hypothetical. Lots of experience with Watson, Narain, Teki, Zylan, and Max all having a redshirt year under their belts. I would love for us to land Watson. I was thinking kell but wrote Hemsley twice my bad

Hoetzel is more of a 4 than 3 and a high major wing would play over him, Watson is really small he's not going to play on the wing. We definitely need a immediately contributing wing for 17-18 off the bench.

Last year Kansas had a nice guard duo of Devonte Graham (6'2") and Frank Mason (5'11").

Do we have a realistic chance with this kid ? Watson is considering Kansas, San Diego State and California is ranked the nation’s fourth-best transfer on ESPN. Yes, I think we have a chance. He is a local kid from El Cajon and then Oceanside.

So is he best option at guard compared to any probable guard we could Sign for 2017 from HS ?

One attribute last year's team lacked, and that this year's team will lack, is speed/quickness.
We have size and athleticism, but no raw speed/quicks, and neither McDaniels nor the new players who will become eligible this year won't help in that regard.
Watson would bring that missing dimension to this team (after a redshirt year), and he would not be a raw freshman who would need time to learn from his mistakes.

So is he best option at guard compared to any probable guard we could Sign for 2017 from HS ? Since he's already proven himself at this level, yes. But it doesn't mean you can't sign a HS PG/CG in 2017 as well. They'd be separated by 2 years.

Has he visited any other schools besides SDSU? If so, hopefully he decides to go with us.

CAL and U San Francisco are very close to each other . So a visit to the campus would be very easy for him . Believe he was talking with CAL late April .

Think I believe you. I doubt he'd go anywhere where Thornton might (Kansas, USC), but you never know. Like our chances. Watson thus Sunday and Izundu next Sunday would be a great week.
