And as an Aztec fan I am super duper interested in what OU fans think... I know from reading posts here that fans everywhere certainly know exactly what is happening at all times. This thread is about expansion of the Big 12, right? You should be super duper interested in Oklahoma's perspective considering they are the only school with the juice to get Texas to expand. Here's a Texas tidbit from the other day. I get this stuff offline - not just throwing **** against the wall. It's all speculation until it's not. If you don't want the color, don't read it. 3. This promises to be an interesting month as the Big 12 prepares for a meeting of athletic directors at the end of May to discuss the conference’s future concerning expansion and a possible television network. I still see no willingness on Texas’ part to fold the Longhorn Network into a Big 12 network, even if the league gives the Longhorns an extra $15 million share to cover its LHN income, because, the Texas source said, “we would get the same money, but lose our branding and having our own channel? Not very compelling. If we get rid of LHN, it will be to change conferences, in my opinion.”

www.mystatesman.com/news/sports/bohls-on-the-search-for-an-ad-better-nba-officiati/nrGkg/Texas should just go independent; it seems that is their attitude. Then the BIG XII could form their own network & expand as they wish. Would the BIG XII survive the departure of Texas? I don't know. Regardless of what happens with conferences & expansion SDSU just needs to control what they can control to allow the university to grow to its maximum academic & athletic potential. Would I like to see SDSU earn an invitation to the PAC 12 or BIG XII? Absolutely. But conference affiliation won't change my affinity for my university. It is much more important for San Diego State University to acquire the real estate in MV to expand campus to "SDSU West." SDSU must control what it can and let the chips fall where they may. Go SDSU WEST! Go AZTECS!

No. The Big 12 would not survive without Texas or Oklahoma for that matter. At least not ad a P5 conference.

BIG XII to 16 teams?
Dennis Dodd Dennis Dodd – Verified account @dennisdoddcbs
Since March, B12 ADs have seen scheduling models for future that include 8 and 9 conf games and a 16 team league.

That's the dichotomy and why the Big 12 has been a complete cluster **** the last 4 years. On one hand you have Boren feeding Dennis Dodd all sorts of pro-Big 12 propaganda - while you have Texas just being Texas. Here you have the sports anchor for Oklahoma's ABC affiliate

the Big 10, Big 12, and SEC will consume the ACC. There are not enough TV dollars to go around for the networks (ESPN)

Here you have the sports anchor for Oklahoma's ABC affiliate I would be fine with the BIG XII dissolving. That would precipitate a BOR conference forming that would include the best of the MWC/AAC/BIG XII leftovers/BYU. SDSU would most certainly be a member of that conference and it would be a significant step above the MWC.

I agree. this so reminds me of the fantasyland threads 6 or 7 years ago, when we talked about the demise of the big 12. not going to happen. and certainly not in this configuration.

UConn and BYU are up first. BYU isn't going anywhere. The Big 12 will not take a football only school and BYU won't play on Sunday. BYU isn't as good as they think they are. For pity sake our APR is better. Plus I'm not thinking that Big 12 women's sports are excited about the BYU policy of reporting rape victims to the honor code office to see if they violated the honor code relating to the assault. Houston, Cincinati or UCF. They are more regionally located as well.

With the obvious exception of Houston, you should look at flight times from Austin to Orlando, Cincinnati, Salt Lake City, and San Diego. Do the same from Dallas and don't forget to include Hartford for UCONN.

cfbhuddle.com/2016/05/04/big-12-expansion-candidates-meet-choices/2/"SAN DIEGO STATE AZTECS
Location: San Diego TV Market: San Diego (No. 28)
Home Venue: Qualcomm Stadium (70,561)
Undergraduate Enrollment: 29,234
Conference realignment is inherently a gamble, and few options offer as much potential upside and value as San Diego State.
San Diego State’s inclusion isn’t based on credible suggestions or rumors, rather the logical appeal of the university.
The basketball program grew to national prominence over the last decade, in that time building a rabid base of local support.
While the fan backing has yet to come for football, the Aztecs’ success on the gridiron should catch attention. Last year marked the first outright Mountain West Conference championship in San Diego State history, and the 2016 team looks even better on paper.
San Diego State’s academic profile grew parallel to that of its athletic department, as its now the most prestigious university in the Cal State system.
San Diego State makes a ton of sense for Big 12 expansion, realistic suggestion or not."
