Who here has the resume to be able to credibly argue our coach's methods? Who here has competently worked at it for over a decade...actually closer to two than one, and knows better because he or she has a proven better system that they have been working for that spand?
Who here can even tie that man's shoes?
Just curious?

Improving offensive performance... will most likely lead to an offsetting decrease in defensive performance. At the end of the day... we probably end up in the same place. I'm more than happy with 1 or occasionally 2 victories in March... sprinkled in with the occasional Kansas victory AND absolute turds (@ Washington last year, West Virginia). Understood, but we need to start focusing on our offense even if it makes is not as good on defense. The objective of the game is to score points and every time you play against teams score a lot we cannot keep up with them because our defense is good enough but our offense sucks. Wrong! The objective of the game is not to score points. The objective is to score more than the opponent. We have done the a remarkable percentage of the time under Coach Fishers leadership. Look up the records for consecutive 20+ win seasons, trips to the NCAA tournament, trips to the round of 32, etc. You can't find more than a handful of coaches who have a better record then Coach Fisher.

I rhink Hemsley needs to be give the complete green light and we should look to recruit a little, speedy PG in our next class to go with the other players we have now.
An elite penetrating pass first PG would make this team so much better. Hemsley is very good and perhaps is that guy, but I agree that the offensive attack needs to be more defined, what are we trying to do offensively right now? What is our "go to" set and play?

I agree with about 25% of this post. While there have been times i look at Steve Fisher led teams and wonder why we dont have clean, precise, set plays like some others i see out there or what i enjoy to watch...or that we don't push tempo with this years team, there isn't much you can say about a guy whose teams are constantly making the tournament. And who has created this program which is constantly improving, using this core style. But the other 75% i completely disagree that you think Fisher doesn't 'let' the team, or certain players, or whoever have freedom. I think our team sometimes has too much freedom. If Pope, or Winston, or whoever falls into patterns where they take bad shots or not the shots that you like, i think its completely on the player. How many times have we seen Pope nonchalantly try some Kevin Durant style dribble or shot only to lose the ball, get stripped away, or just flat out clank the shot??? Fact is, these players have a tremendous amount of freedom to be creative and assert themselves into the game with their style of play. Or Shepard for example. The young man knows he has a quicker first step than most of his opposition. He knows he has excellent handles for a player his size. He knows he can drive, be aggressive and either take it to the rim and SLAM OR penetrate and dish to the open man. He knows this about himself already. We've all seen him do these things. BUT only when he gets aggressive. Only when its him coming off the bench. The point i'm making is yes, the coach needs to lead the players to play at their best... but only the young men can perform. Look at Jamaal. The young man was not text book by any means. But he was ultra aggressive and ultra physical. He made things happen. I think your take is very small. I'd say the most attractive facet of SDSU basketball for a young recruit IS the style that Fisher "allows" to be played here. They know they can come here and showcase their skills, and play for the style of the next level. I mean, if you want the Princeton offense or something that may be a little more "college friendly" or "college successful" thats cool. And i understand that. But the bottom line is that what brings blue chip talent in, is the prospects of playing in the league. And after all these are just young men, still learning and not finished products. I think you missed my point. My point is the coach needs to start doing some coaching on the offense of side of the ball instead of letting the players do whatever they want to do. He needs to coach like a good offensive coach does who designs plays for players actually design a college offense not a high school offense like we have every single year. Fisher has completely missed the mark on Pope! If he went to a different school with a good coach I guarantee you he would be getting a lot of shots a game and he would be one of the scoring options on the team instead of just sitting out there on the perimeter doing nothing because he does not get the ball ever. He is only thought of as a three-point option which is ludicrous. Fisher just does not get it! If I was a standout offensive player I would stay the hell away from Coach Fisher. So maybe we should hire Sean Miller away from Arizona huh? You mean that coach who constantly has top 5 recruiting classes yet cant get out of the round of 8? Hah. I feel your frustration man but i think its a lil bit misguided and wayyyyyy too heavy. Fisher has and continues to do MORE with LESS than most coaches in the NCAA. In particular that coach from u of A i just mentioned. (Who is a good choice). If im wrong im wrong. But Fisher has never been mistooken for a tactical master. I think you are expecting something that just isn't there. Should he bring in an offensive mind that can somehow get Pope to stop turning it over or jacking up 3's? Sure. Maybe. But ive been high on Malik coming into this year and very slow to talk negatively about the kid...he deserves his time & touches. But idk what game you're watching because that dude gets plenty of run. He's at the 3 & 4 spot so he gets the ball on the top of the key or in the post, or out on the wing and I never have seen him be aggressive and take it to the rim. Never see him put a first step down then pop up over the smaller defender and drop an easy perimeter jumper, and i sure as hell don't see any low post moves YET. Im not here to critique Pope's game. He's got a ton of upside. But he's lost at the moment and his attitude is not one to be aggressive and make things happen. Simple as that. Put up or shut up. Right now i dont see any fire in the belly so I'm assuming he's shutting up. I hope it changes. But i wont expect Fisher to change. Especially when he's got tons of successful years and a championship ring to boot.

I do find it interesting that at the beginning of the game and at the start of the second half, Fish draws up a play to run and more often than not it works to perfection. Often a pick and roll ending with either a slam by Sky or a lay up. I always wonder why set plays are not run during our half court offense during the game? I imagine they are tried sometimes, however they don't seem to be run very precisely as they are at beginning of the halves.

Is every one of the OP's contributions to this board a bash on Fisher? Seems like it. I notice he doesn't seem to post anything positive about the basketball program's success under Fisher or any other sports at SDSU. You an alum or what? Has Coach Fisher wronged you somehow?

If what you're saying is Fish isn't as brilliant at coaching offense as he is at coaching defense, I agree. However, the OP accuses Fish of being "horrible" at coaching offense. That is so totally ridiculous it would be pointless to bother discussing the point with him.

That's coaches problem then by allowing the players to do whatever they want. He is the head coach you need to design some offensive plays for a change.. Basketball is definitely not just defense that's for sure and every time we play against big scoring teams they kill us because we cannot keep up with them offensively. I don't see this changing any time going forward so what's the point of us trying to get these four star and five star recruits? They will come to the same dumb offense and the offense will struggle again as always! Ctap Thank you for having the courage to say it like many SEE IT

Ctap Thank you for having the courage to say it like many SEE IT I love how a coach builds a program, from absolutely nothing, to be on the verge of a final 4. And now, after years of work, all the 'experts' come out and tell us everything he is doing wrong. The bottom line is the way the program was built is the reason we are so good. If you want 85 point games go root for BYU or Weber St or some other program that focuses on scoring. Some of you are so spoiled I can see why our fan base has a bad reputation.

It always has been Fisher's Achilles Heel and will continue to be. Even with the Fab 5. Just accept it. But the poor free throw shooting is correctable and it drives me crazy how bad our guys are at the line. I'm curious, what percent do you think they're shooting and what would be acceptable? Fisher has done a great job. The Little Rock loss stinks but one of those every few years is tough to avoid. The wvu game was a perfect storm (team exhausted from the late game comeback the prior night relying on young players unaccustomed to playing that type of press). When I look at the big picture I can't complain. Now go beat long beach in the pyramid! The two losses are unexcusable. Scoring 43 points is also unacceptAble, especially at home against a horrible team! You cannot say the loss to West Virginia was because they were tired they could not handle the press at all. They were outcoached big-time that game.Yes Coach Fisher has done great for the school not saying he has not, but he can't keep living off of his past. The team needs to keep getting better and keep moving up and they're not and it's mainly because of their crappy offense.

Cannot believe you are defending our offense. Does 43 point seem like enough to you? Smh lol

Offense has been our problem. OP's main premise isn't wrong. Perhaps a shooting coach to keep some of our guys consistent. Coach can't draw a play that will work when a team will let you shoot 12 feet and out, because we won't hit.
I wouldn't ever act like I know even 2% of what Fisher knows about basketball, but we all see that the shooting has been bad for awhile, and sometimes a tough defense just is not enough. I think tap is being a little too caustic about it.

We need to hit some outside shots, but in the meantime, let's move the ball and penetrate.

Enough is enough! I am tired of seeing the same thing every freaking year, us not having an offense! What is the point of Coach Fisher getting all these great players when he does not allow them to use their athleticism and talents on the offense of side of the ball? So sick of having great talent and we do nothing but half-court offense all the time and we have no idea what we're doing on every set. With our athleticism and talents, we should be running teams and pushing the pace not slowing everything down to a half-court set. Fisher should be blamed for this bad offense this year just like he should be blamed for the other years on offense. It's time for him to bring somebody in for help on the offense of side of the ball. You guys keep blaming Pope well that is coach Fisher's job to figure out how to get him the ball and to get him shots! All he does is have him sit out there on the perimeter and if he misses a shot then people say why does he keep shooting or he gets put down at the center/Pf position where he is not big enough to play. He is way better than that. The guy is good at attacking the hoop he's not just a three-point shooter that's what coach has turned him into it feels like.Has Coach Fisher ever thought of actually designing a play for a player? A guy like that should be one of the main options for our offense and he should have Plenty of plays designed around him. I don't think he has any for pope right now how embarrassing! Yes Pope has not started out well but if I was him I would get the heck out of San Diego and go to a coach who knows how to run an offense. I honestly think recruits are starting to realize this. I mean who the heck wants to go there and have no plays designed for them? Our offense is a complete mess and Coach Fisher has had all off season to get it right! We all love Coach Fisher for what he has done to the city of San Diego and what he has meant for our school. But we need to keep getting better as a team and that's not happening. We have had problems on the offense of side of the ball ever since he was our coach . Even when we had Billy White, Leonard, etc, we have never had a very good offense. Hell, even with the Fab 4 his offense was not that great. Something needs to change. Either he needs to bring somebody in for help on the offense of side of the ball or we need to bring somebody else in who knows what they're doing. I don't think the back of coach is our answer either as he seems to be horrible on the offensive side as well. You're right, You're a genius. Here's the solution. Fire Rocky Now! That's right Fire his ass. His basketball acumen is pathetic. LOL on steroids.

I watched a big sky game over the holiday-sac state invitational. sac state scored 90 points, on at least 60% shooting, including 3's. 90 points and LOST! 94-90. Both teams had amazing shooting, it had to be over 60% including 3's. Both teams had post players who could make 5-10 footers almost at will. A missed lay up was a shock as was a missed 3. 10 fouls called in the first half, called not committed. Refs let them play. Score 90 and loose? Defense, defense. it was not nonexistant, but close. Keep the other team from scoring less than you and you should win most of the time. I'll take Fish 99.9999999% of the time. (but 43 in a whole game, really does stink). Oh yeh-----4 tickets in g.a cost $20, total, not each.
