My questions is this. You have family night, yet the game starts at 7:30? My grandson was asleep in his Dad's lap by half time. I realize that TV determines starting times, but that might be the reason people made it to the exits at half time. I'm really happy we won, but it was boring football on the offensive side of the football. It seems the OC wants to resurrect Woody Hayes and "3 yards and a cloud of dust" and "only 3 things can happen when you throw the ball and two are bad." Hey OC might want to mix in a misdirection play once in awhile, you know a reverse, a naked keeper, etc just to give the defense something to think about and something to wake up the fans. Although Fresno was down to their 4th string QB I thought Rocky's defense was solid and had a good game plan. Congratulations to the players and coaches on their first conference win and ahead of the pack. I hope DJ's injury is not too severe and he can play next week. If not the OC will need to be more creative in his play calling. The offense will only go as far as the O-line will carry them. Good Luck Aztecs. He wasn't the 4th string qb, Greenlee was the starter for the season. You confused last week when he was suspended.

For all you that think they know football...wins are wins...I get it...but this win ranks right up there with what not to do to fans and recruits
Recruit Lucas Johnson was at the game...if I am him, I would reconsider my commitment after watching last nights game
When as a fan you are able to predict the next play, that's a problem
Did anyone ask Rocky or the OC on next weeks game plan...if it's the same, then continue to reduce ticket sales for the next home game

Clueless. You are the one that would prefer a high scoring loss to a loss scoring win. Inexplicable logic.

The problem with the play calling last night was our passing game went in to a turtle shell. Yes, we can run the ball on one of the worst rushing defenses in the country. However, if we don't get some kind of pulse in the passing game we have no chance beating better teams on the schedule. Yes, there aren't many good teams left, but winning the West, beating Boise in MWC championship game, and winning a bowl game will all require the passing game to be resurrected. Last night was another wasted opportunity to get the passing game back on track.

We won, right? That's the fans problem for rejecting a winner. So you also advocate running plays we lack the personnel to against one of the worst rushing defenses in the nation for style points rather than use our strengths to pound their weakness? No, I advocate getting coaches who can get players who can run basic passing plays without turning over the ball. This program cannot survive the 2020's with crowds like we've been getting, and this kind of football doesn't attract bigger crowds. I'm advocating for the survival of the program. Me too Since we don't have them this year, why desire to see a system that would get them destroyed?

We don't have the personnel to run anything that isn't predictable And who is ultimately responsible for the personnel on the field? Im pro Rocky retiring. You are preaching to the choir. I am just not for running an offense these players clearly cannot. Can Horton use Penny more? Yes, but he did use him more last night than any other game as he caught a deep ball for a TD.

When you play a team that can't stop the run, you know what you do when you play that team?? Keep running the ball till they stop it. I don't see how that is difficult to understand

We won playing good defense. You do what gives you the best chances to win.

I enjoy some defense, and last I checked, we held a team in the FBS level to 89 yards. I also appreciate the run game as much as the pass game, and we put up 305. And we won. So even with a terrible aerial game, I enjoyed watching us win, and enjoyed watching that defense sticking it to a rival. You can be concerned with our pass game, and still find a win entertaining. Or we could play into our weakness again, and EIU ourselves chucking the ball up 60 times with an ineffective pass game. Super exciting, and I am sure that fans would love to see that.

We don't have a HC and OC willing or capable of running anything different (succesfully). There is some talent on the offensive side of the ball. It's not the players.

It's not the players. Ok, which personnel do you think we have? I'm not currently seeing anything out of the WRs or the TEs or the QB or the OL pass blocking that would indicate we could run more of a wide open passing game. I do see that they could use Penny much more in the slot or on flare/swing/screen passes out of the backfield; I do believe they should try some more shallow crosses (they tried one to Pumphrey and he dropped the ball), swing passes and screens.

But the point still remains, scoring 21 on Fresno isn't worth writing home about.

I'd like to see some legitimate play action bootleg plays after we run the ball a lot. We did 1 of them to Penny for the TD on Saturday but it wasn't really a "bootleg"... just a play action. It worked great obviously... we should do more of it

It worked great obviously... we should do more of it IIRC, they tried play-action bootlegs against Cal and USA, and the results weren't good. The bootleg itself was slow-developing, and the containment end was in the QBs face quickly. Maybe they could try something like it in the future, or work on better selling what they already have.

I actually didn't see the USA game but the Cal game I remember them trying it but they stupidly had Max (or actually it might've been Chapman) rollout to his left instead of his right on the plays I remember. I'm sure they've done it a few times this season but it seems like it'd be really effective if they could run it correctly

We don't have the personnel to run anything that isn't predictable I think we do have the personnel. We don't have a HC and OC willing or capable of running anything different (succesfully). There is some talent on the offensive side of the ball. It's not the players. First ... in our system, the HC defers to the OC to run the offense. This means the OC calls the plays & decides the personnel. Let me be clear that the HC is ultimately responsible for what the OC does -- but if your are going to criticize our offense, it should be directed at the OC. Play calling by the OC aside (which I will agree is horrible) our talent on the O-line is still a work in progress. We get Greene back in time for SJSU and that should help a lot, but right now we are limited in what we can do in terms of passing since we are using our FB & TE for QB protection -- and even then only against Fresno St were they able to give him time to throw. Max Smith is still slow on his reads, is not always accurate on his throws, but as we have seen -- given the time he needs ... can get the job done. There is little to no confidence in the WRs & TEs -- that is a chicken/egg thing. Their ability to catch the ball depends on the QBs ability to get it to them, which happens so seldom that it's hard to judge. There is a school of thought that as a receiver, if the ball touches your hands you should be able to catch it -- even if that ball is thrown behind you, at your feet or above your head ... you touch it, you catch it. I can't totally blame the receiver corps for our issues in the passing game as I have seen the same issues when Smith targets Pumphrey, Gordon & Penny with passes.
