We've beaten Boise State during two down years for their program. Oh yeah... and Buffalo! Is it more important to beat a team is ranked in the TOP 25 in November as Boise St (#19/#14) was in '12 (or#23 AFA in '10) or is it more important to beat an unranked P5 like Wazzu, WF or KS? If you're having trouble with the football concept, make it basketball ... is it more important to beat a ranked Long Beach St or St Mary's or is it more important to beat an unranked Wazzu, Colorado or Texas Tech? What if the unranked p5er is like...texas, oregon state, illinois, arkansas, etc. i think that would be a better comparison that kansas and wazzu.

Seriously? You should really take a moment to re-read the thread and re-assess the direction you are trying to take it. In the mean time to answer your question, BSU's record since 2008 is 81-122008 12-1 2009 14-0 2010 12-1 2011 12-1 2012 11-2 2013 8-5 2014 12-2 Whatever you are trying to infer from their record or ranking over the years in question does nothing to dispel the fact that they were ranked in '12 and of the 2 games they lost, one was to SDSU Simple question, did we beat Boise in down years (post Kellen Moore) or not? I don't normally have an issue with your posts and really don't see where you are trying to hijack this thread to ... but reading your posts, should I also make excused for injuries, coaching changes or any other factors that fans use to mitigate a loss (or in this case mitigating a win)?

You must be BB fan to put Illinois and Oregon St in the same category as Texas and Arkansas...but I get what you are trying to say. I find it strange that many aztec fans ignore how close we came to beating decent P5 teams the last 2 seasons with literally no offense. Tecmo Bob really hurt our team overall the last 2 years and we are not as far away from being a really good team as many here seem to believe thanks to what was probably one of the worst offenses on the mesa in a long while.

To answer your question(s) as asked: Football: Boise State Basketball: Completely indifferent why is basketball any different? would it be any different in baseball? A power conference team is still a power conference team as they are resource teams (read that as $$$$) and have all the advantages, yet it is always more important to beat a ranked team, PERIOD. I answered your question exactly as it was asked. Beating a P5 bottom feeder provides nothing of value. Beating a ranked LBSU or St. Mary's isn't going to move the needle in the eyes of the P5... and especially to no one east of the west coast. I'll take a victory over a decent (even non-ranked) P5 any day of the week over a ranked LBSU or St. Mary's.

It is always more important to beat a ranked FBS team, regardless of conference affiliation period ... after ranked teams would come any resource team (like texas, oregon state, illinois, arkansas, etc.) followed by non-resource FBS team and then ranked FCS-teams (NDSU)

Otherwise our win against a ranked Gonzaga to start 2010 would've been meaningless. Gonzaga isn't P5. Its about beating teams that have a legacy of winning regardless of conference.

Oh, I thought you were making the point that it was better to beat a bad team with name recognition than a good team with no name recognition. My bad.

Boise St didn't start beating P5 teams in D-1 football until very recently, but they got the attention of the P5 by racking up the wins, much as Marshall is trying to do now. It works the same in basketball ... beating ranked teams gets you noticed, racking up the wins get you noticed -- doing both gets you ranked.

You have your honest/sincere opinions and posts... just like I do. No one person has hijacked this thread, it takes at least two (or more) to tango. Every team has extenuating circumstances (injuries, coaching changes, players who fail to meet grades, etc. etc.).

Most aren't aware that if you look at SOS since around 2001 SDSU has played a schedule an average of 20 spots higher in SOS than Boise. Obviously playing in the WAC is part of that, but also many forget they built their program on beating bottom feeders before moving on to beat the big boys.

I'll agree with you here. I don't think nearly as much of our victory over Gonzaga as most other basketball fans do. I'm more than happy to say (as a huge Aztec hoops fan) that that Gonzaga team wasn't nearly as good as previous Gonzaga teams.

I would guess nobody on the east coast would care about SDSU defeating a ranked LBSU. SDSU beating an unranked UCLA would have more effect.

Skippy Neuweasel would put SDSU in his lose/lose category of opponents. Beat SDSU & it's a meh! Lose and you have big egg on your FB programs face! Which is why he's no longer coaching.
Glad Mora is there & isn't afraid to take on the SDSU's of the world.
Why should they be afraid of us? Aren't they something like 21-0 against us?

The Longhorns ended up with less than 100 yards of O.
