Once again, Long is playing with words. It's not so much about "being afraid", but to be put in a situation where you have absolutely nothing to gain and everything to lose, and the payout would not cover team meal money, WHY? (Kinda like State playing USD). |

Couldn't agree with him more. Instead of taking on challenges, such as playing at a SDSU, CSU or even BSU, the P5's are playing it safe, knowing 1 lower tier loss ends their hopes completely. It's good in that I think some of them are playing top tier teams Head to head, but when playing B5 teams they seek out the bottom feeders. Then again, it really only impacts about half of the teams out there, as not all have hopes of making the playoff.
I'm glad we're sticking to our guns about no 2:1's - they make zero sense, and glad JD had us going down the path of playing 2 P12 teams annually. Hopefully we can convince a few B12 teams to come this way as well. I'd love to see a H&H with an Oklahoma St-type of team, or even a Texas Tech (if we can get them late in the non-conference schedule).

Typical sourpuss Aztec fans purposely misunderstanding a RL comment? Say it ain't so...
If you guys can read he is making a comment on the reality that P5 schools have everything to risk and almost nothing to gain by playing in our house. Then there is the fact that even bottom feeder P5 FB programs are receiving massive payouts which allow them to play a game that used to be reserved for only the CFB blue bloods (i.e. 7 to 8 home games a year).

Of course they are not afraid us, and the only reason Rocky said that was to make them upset, and feel more obligated to consider scheduling H&H games with us instead of one game on their home turf. Rocky is not dumb (as some may think) for he knows getting the P5 schools to come to San Diego does take a little psychology, and planning to get them to come here.
Face it, if someone called you chicken normal response would be to do something to prove you are not. Rocky may have something there.

As Rocky said in the article the P5 schools have all the leverage . The P5 schools rated in the top 25 are going to schedule games against G5 that they think will benefit them the most , do they want a higher quality G5 for ratings for playoffs ,they will do that but most likely at their stadium , they have extra money . Teams that need victories to get to at least 6 wins and bowl bid, may schedule teams that they know/think they can beat lower level G5 . Aztecs do have a P5 PAC school on the schedule for the next X number of years , half the games are at the Q .
Do you really think most P5 schools care what most of the G5 schools say . Doubt it even resonates to the P5 . Their focus is either getting in the playoffs and scheduling games that work for them . For the bottom group of P5 schools they may want to play G5 schools that they know they can beat .

RL must have been spending too much time in the sun. He has never beat a P5 School at SDSU. It is strictly a monetary issue why they do not come to America's Finest City. At the endof this year I'm afraid that Long's record will six seasons with ZERO wins against the P5
