I have another possible angle on this...
Let's say that the coaches came to realize that perhaps that they made a slight mistake with BJ (maybe a bad evaluation or simply an academic liability)...needing the scholarship back to dangle in front of another possible player...
Now...you just can't cut the kid outright before he's ever stepped on campus...so they meet with him and agree to part ways amicably...and put on a show to protect the kid's marketability to go someplace else...knowing that he'd never play any significant role this year (and maybe even in future years due to academic concerns)...
I could be all wrong...but hell...it's the summer so speculation abounds

Fisher has high integrity--as does Rocky--and I have trouble seeing him "play" the system, so for Fisher, I'm sure there's a fine line, and a limit, to what he'll do for a kid in this area.

The Aztecs could have passed on BJ in April and backed away from the scholarship offer , so they could have recruited Lonnie 5th year grad transfer SG that is now going to play for MW rival BSU , or Williams 6'9" regular transfer . or others ... so your theory makes little sense , the coaches were definitely caught off guard by BJ decision and even worse the timing of it . Yes we do have another scholarship for 2016 but there is no guarantee we can sign some one , even Narain has not made up his final decision .

Best wishes to the young man. Ideally, he would have informed SDSU sooner, but it is what is and as a former basketball playe rmyself...I understand wanting playing time and not bench time, sitting and watching is no fun and I am not sure he would have played much for at least a couple of seasons....we are deep up front yo!

Brodricks Jones (Scholarship) and Chris White (Walk-on) at Lawndale High School are playing for UTEP and today team mate Tedric Johnson who is a guard has also been officially added as a walk-on. Floyd got the full Lawndale package deal , 3 for the price of 1.

Addition by subtraction, I would rather have a guy who was recruited by Izzo, Crean, Calipari and Motta, then one that walked away from a Top25 school to a mid tier CSUA team. Enjoy the altitude Buddha.

Enjoy the altitude Buddha. Why do we still care/post about this guy? It's like being mad at. There is a reason at the very beginning, maybe.

If we essentially traded Broderick Jones for Gill-Ceasar then we definitely made out like bandits in this deal.

Hope that Fish can schedule utep whilst bubba is there. He should see, firsthand, what he missed.

Move on already, a kid decided he didn't want to go to SDSU, ok. Could he have given us a little more notice, etc. Sure, but how many times do teenagers do this kind of thing.
Our coaches handled it really well, moved on and went to work. They were able to fill the slot with a very talented young man, Karma...

For a kid who wanted more minutes; after 16 games at UTEP he has played 81 minutes in 7 games and averages about 2 points and Rebs per game. And it's gotta be cold in El Paso this time of year
