As I and others have agreed . Coaches need to conduct the Summer School practices during the week . So why not ask BJ and family to come have a face to face conversation with the coaches at SDSU . Hear what he has to say . Then let the staff digest the conversation then do what is best for SDSU .
As of today we have 2 scholarships remaining for 2015 . We can hold them or use them as needed . If we do get a player or walk on doubt . Doubt it counts against the 13 if it is not used .
Glass half full approach . BJ was a work in progress recruit at best, not slated to be a starter for 2016 but would be listed as on the roster . We were going to have to recruit at least 1 or 2 guys that play the 4 or 5 , as BJ was iffy . This way we can honestly say to any recruit that the only returning player at either position is Zylan , who could slide over to the 3( more likely then him playing the 5 ,at 6'7") if we can recruit at least 2 or more 4 or 5 's. PT for Cage , Kone , Stanback ( all 3 are more advanced then BJ ) or my wishful thought Narain's team mate Humphries ( yes know he has not had us on his list , but maybe now ?). If we could land 2 of the 4 we would be in very good position , easier said then done but was going to be needed, any way. Front line of say Narain , Cage , Kone , Stanback or Humphties then Bailey or Zylan , may not be big but could be very strong up front . Bailey as SF/SG would also be very valuable.
C/PF transfer Williams ,who transferred from Mizu to Zags would have been a good very option . Red Shirt this year and playing in 2016 .

So HE asked for the release and not his family? If true I wouldn't want him in our program. Sounds like a turd

What is the go/no go date for Norain to make his decision on '15 or '16? First day of classes most likely (although some leeway to ensure he qualifies is important)

Well that didn't take long. Now let's hope we're replacing a project with a player.

First of all believe the coaching staff will do what Narain wants to do - be it for 2015 or 2016 . It is his call .He has said if 2015 he wanted to red shirt .
If he wants to attend for Fall Semester of 2015 he would have to submit enrollment papers and get them cleared .
Per SI: Georgio Papagiannis (sp)- 7'1" 260 LBS . Currently playing on the Greek U-19 team , sponsored by Nike . Is looking at possibly playing college basketball starting in the 2015-16 season . Short list so far Kentucky , Ducks, NC State ,St . Johns. Wants to make decision early July . Have no clue if SDSU has way to contact him or any interest.
BJ , He deserves to at least come explain to the coaches at SDSU in person ,what is going on for him . Then let the coaches decide what is best for SDSU .

it would be the stand-up thing to do. he should tell them in person. But since he doesn't want to come, I doubt that will happen. The damage is done, no way to put the toothpaste back in the tube

If he actually is released I would block MWC and PAC12 schools, let him play in the WCC or Big Lots if he doesn't want to be an Aztec. I'd be tempted to go an even harsher path to ensure there was no tampering, and limit to only the schools he had relationships with BEFORE he committed to SDSU.
Unfortunate situation, and really does show a lack of character. Cold feet at the 11th hour happens, but when the staff had been guiding him along to eligibility and were standing by his side....that's bad. Our staff really liked his upside and his future, so never good to lose the best big you were able to sign during ANY signing class.
We lost a quality player but apparently not a quality person, and definitely hurts the team moving forward.
Disappointing.
Hopefully this motivates Narain even more.....our scout team needs another big...and he needs to develop quicker now.
I have to disagree with your point that if he isn't a quality person that it still hurts going forward. Well, I don't know if he is not a quality person but if he fits the description then we haven't been hurt and may in fact be helped. Character Counts.

If he came here we wouldn't think he wasn't a good character person, and he wouldn't have done anything to deserve the label.
The WDWHA mentality doesn't make sense to me. We wanted him; he decided other avenues were better for him. Doesn't mean he wouldn't have been a good character person had he gone here or he won't turn out to be a very good teammate wherever he goes.
IMO our basketball team is worse today than it was yesterday. We can agree to disagree on this one.

IMO our basketball team is worse today than it was yesterday. We can agree to disagree on this one. Of course it is. To think otherwise is just plain foolish. Jones was important to this coming season as an insurance policy. Totally unlikely to see meaningful playing time except in an emergency... in which case when you need depth it typically is just plain desperation. Beyond this coming season... as long as we recruit well for the 2016 class, bringing in Cage Jr, Kone, Bailey, & Narain (if not already reclassified to 2015) then the impact of losing Jones will be totally mitigated. If not, then his importance as an insurance policy would be carried over an extra season and if he developed well from his Fr to So seasons he could have made a meaningful impact. So... definitely a short-term loss. Long-term? Probably (certainly HOPEFULLY!) not.

Little doubt that we are not better off today , especially if Winston , Malik , Spencer , Chol or Zylan gets injured during the season . We are in trouble any way if one of the starters gets injured and is out for a while . On the other hand all the guys up front should realize there is going to be plenty of PT , Zylan , Chol and D. Allen should be ready for extra minutes , as there is not going to a 'third string sub" . Fortunately Winston , Malik , Zylan have size and quickness so can play multiple positions up front . It does send clear message for recruits for 2016 there is going to be PT , we only have 1 returning Center or PF .

Chill out Aztecs. We will be fine. If he doesn't want to be here, we don't want him. It's a two way street. And remember, he is a 19 year old kid. Let's wish him luck in the future, except when he is playing us (if that happens).
Let's be mature about this.

BJ is not a very good basketball player, I'm happy he's not coming to SDSU. I've been saying he wasn't very good even when we signed him. All he has his size, and he doesn't even use that very well.

He doesn't want to come here? That's fine, I wouldn't want someone on the team that isn't 100% committed to learn and play with the great group of players we now have. It's not like he was a top ten or even 20 talent anyway, there are plenty of other guys out there that can come in here and be a part of everything that Aztec basketball has become.

The point should be Aztec coaches need to be coaching the guys who are here during the week , on the weekends out evaluating 2016 recruits while they are allowed to during this month . August is a "quiet" month for recruiting then September full time recruiting . They can discuss releasing BJ after he spends some time here a 2 hour drive talking with the coaches . Aztec coaches have done the "nice" thing for guys similar to AQ about scholarships . But there is also the time to ask for some guys to at least be civil about what their plans are going forward , or just being honest . Yes we have eased out players who were not going to play here , but also as the coaches can tell you been burned by guys just plain not telling them the truth , or using it to their advantage Young ( Kansas ) . We have also stood behind guys trying to get their grades or life together. Personally tired of being considered the "nice guy coaches" . Some guys need to realize that there are choices you make and then have to deal with what happens . What happened with Issac Hamilton . he had to sit a year. In this situation , I think the coaches owe it to the program at SDSU and even the recruit to do what is best for SDSU first and then the recruit . Can be as mentioned NO MW , PAC or WCC school . He can then decide between Big West or Big Sky or go to a JC .... No we do not need to assist other MW schools get better .

You are not correct sir. Characters not about hurting Aztecs but a youngster holding up his end of the bargain. When you make a commitment you stick by your commitment. If my 2 kids commit to something then they follow thru or I will kick their arses. At best this kid is consistent, doesn't sound like he's committed to school if he can't pass the SAT. 100 percent character issue. Hope he has something to fall back on besides hoops I'm actually happy he's not coming.

Grant the release of this skill-less project so he can go and warm the bench seat somewhere else. He's too irrelevant to even restrict the list of schools he is allowed to transfer to even though he did screw us over decommitting this late, and good luck wherever your "next level" ass end up at bro.

From NBCsports.com
“I’m disappointed that someone who signed and committed in November now doesn’t want to come,” Fisher said Tuesday night. “But I’ve always been of the opinion that it’s critical there must be a passion to be some place or it won’t be what it should be. So if someone is having second thoughts, then I think we’re all better served if he doesn’t come to San Diego State.”
Words of wisdom.

my 2 cents, Hypothetically speaking If Kawhi was having second thoughts after signing with SDSU the coaches would have TRIED a lot harder to convince him to stay. I think in some way this was a 2 way street. Coaches and players communicating on who's coming in and who they are close to signing. I have to believe that Broderick saw the writing on the wall and did what was best for him and SDSU! Lets see where he ends up, I'm sure this is all about Broderick's playing time and what he felt was best for his development and playing time.
