Zeigler does give a very accurate account of the story .Sometimes it is better to get all the facts instead of jumping on rumors. As for 2015 , BJ was most likely going to be third option at C or PF . It shows you need skills and a level head . Move on . Thankful we have the quality guys we have coming back, who should now have even more PT . Thank You Winston and Malik . Plus Spencer , Chol , D.Allen and Zylan who also deserve the opportunity to show what they can do . That is 6 guys up front that will need to stay healthy . We should have the major situation at PG solved with JH , would have been nice to have Zabo but we have what we have , guys that want to be here. 2016 we have verbal from Narain and the month of July for Aztec coaches to evaluate talent at the AAU events , then set up visits for recruits in the fall .Recruits know we are going to have PT . Again it is quality that we want not just numbers.

Fisher has it right. If a player does not want to be here, we don't want him.
Simple....

So after reading the Zeigler article I'm glad he's moving on. We have become such a strong program with kids that have high character and put the team before anything else. Jones sounds like someone UNLV brings in who's just a headache and part of the reason they can't get pass the hump. I hope Fisher gives him the release that allows him to transfer anywhere except a MW school. If getting playing minutes is the most important thing for this kid he won't end up at a solid or good program because they'll have better people in place already. We have a huge need next year for some big men and have lots of playing time available which many programs won't be able to offer.

After reading the article, it seems very probable to me that another school/coach has tampered with him since he signed with us. After being so positive about his decision and with all of the help our staff gave him, he just doesn't change his mind without some outside interference.

I find it interesting that his father really isn't on board with him wanting to bail on SDSU.
Also, the issue really isn't that he won't be coming but more the fact that SDSU didn't take someone else as they would have if he announced his intentions a few months ago. He wasn't going to be a factor this year anyway, but we needed him next season when we lose 4 guys 6'8" or taller. As I put in the original post, hopefully we can get a mid-year 'big' transfer. Having Narian come in and red-shirt would also be huge.

If it is, get out the pitchforks everyone.

If he actually is released I would block MWC and PAC12 schools, let him play in the WCC or Big Lots if he doesn't want to be an Aztec. I'd be tempted to go an even harsher path to ensure there was no tampering, and limit to only the schools he had relationships with BEFORE he committed to SDSU.
Unfortunate situation, and really does show a lack of character. Cold feet at the 11th hour happens, but when the staff had been guiding him along to eligibility and were standing by his side....that's bad. Our staff really liked his upside and his future, so never good to lose the best big you were able to sign during ANY signing class.
We lost a quality player but apparently not a quality person, and definitely hurts the team moving forward.
Disappointing.
Hopefully this motivates Narain even more.....our scout team needs another big...and he needs to develop quicker now.

if we help him basically get into another school...and he doesn't recognize that, then he is a bad character guy. His folks must not be advising him well. LAME

It's not what he did, it's the way he did it.
Keith Smith: largely forgotten. The guy committed, then changed his mind and went another direction about a month later, but he was a 2016 recruit giving us ample time to adjust. Kevin Young: Complete B.S. Plans were made for him and we stopped recruiting bigs after he committed here.
This case with Jones falls much more into the Kevin Young side of things.

The coaching staff will go on coaching the guys who are here at Summer Session 2 during the week . Then hit the trail recruiting for 2016 on the weekends as permitted during the July evaluation month . IMO would suggest to BJ ,that they want to talk to him in person about if they will release from his contract ( NLI ) . After the meeting the staff can digest his thoughts and act on them as they see fit .
It is not panic mode for 2015 , but does mean there is an additional scholarship for 2016 and the staff will really have to try to sign some quality recruits , especially a quality taller player who wants PT , . We may only have Zylan back , plus hopefully Narain . Maybe Narain could chat with some friends or team mates about joining him at SDSU ( know Humphries has not had us on his list but maybe now ? ).

If SDSU doesn't get a mid-year transfer, I would think they would be fit for a 5th year - play right away - transfer for next season. Even if Cage commits next year we are still limited up-front. SDSU will need to get a big body somehow that can play next season.

If this is the impetus for Narain reclassifying to 2015... it's nothing but POSITIVE!

I don't see any of the bigs we're in the hunt for - Cage, Kone, Stanback, etc., being guys who can come in & play 20+ at the 5 as FR with MAJOR growing pains.
So unless Zylan can slide to the 5, or Narain comes in THIS year & develops quickly, our 2 best options would be to add a Grad-transfer or go the JC route. We very well could end with the latter, as that's more of a certainty than getting a senior-transfer (or especially a mid-year).
That said, most JC bigs are projects, at least for that first year, so 2016-17 may see a LOT of small ball. Hoetzel just become that much more valuable...

the Aztec staff already has a scholarship available for Narain for 2015 if he wants to reclassify . Also if BJ was thinking Aztecs were not going to recruit other C/5 or 4/PF for 2015 and 2016 , he is very naïve . As most schools are going to do that.
As noted by Zeigler . SDSU has all the Leverage if BJ has signed the NLI , So SDSU staff needs to remain doing what it is supposed to do . Not panic , coach guys there for Summer School and go out and evaluate talent for 2016 .Set up visits for those who want to come here. Do not release BJ right away. Suggest he come and explain in person what is actually happening . Then do what is best for SDSU program . Not Mr Nice Guy School .

Release him from his NLI/scholarship... even without restrictions. No reason to be petty. If he ain't playing here... no reason for this to become a huge distraction.

Find out exactly what has happened before giving him a release. It starts with an on campus personal visit with the coaches. Bring your parents if you like.
The coaches have invested considerable time, $$$ and emotion in Buddha. It's time for him to man up and honestly explain himself, face2face, to the coaches. They deserve that much for standing by him.
Telling them that he passed the SAT and asking for his release IN THE SAME SENTENCE is an especially classless move, in my opinion.
No visit, no release. He left the Aztecs in the lurch and does not deserve much better from them if he doesn't have the courage to show up and explain his immature and repugnant behavior. A lesson he now has the opportunity to learn.
My bet is that he does NOT have the courage/class to appear and explain.

What is the go/no go date for Norain to make his decision on '15 or '16?

Wouldn't no release from scholly... mean 1 less scholly for SDSU to use elsewhere? What do we gain by acting so petulantly? 18 year old kids can act immature and selfishly... 70 year old coaches really shouldn't.

They should release him with no restrictions. Why not let a MWC team benefit? Or maybe add a PAC-12 restriction
