So which player's parents got stuck bringing the orange slices to hand out at halftime?

If we are counting on this game to help us get to six wins and to be bowl eligible we've got much bigger problems. Don't confuse USD with Cal poly, how many athletes do you think they can recruit that can afford the $40,000 year tuition?

I get why they did this, no one else to schedule last minute so you get the local cross-town rival(little sister), whatever. yes it doesn't add to bowl eligibility or revenue increase but what it does do is potentially add a few thousand more seats in the stands and will probably create local media buzz. Just having two San Diego teams playing each-other will generate added media coverage that wouldn't necessarily be generated if we were to play say South Illinois St., Eastern Washington...etc.

one of the all-time low points in the history of San Diego State football. this is beyond embarrassing and just soooo San Diego.. this guy makes the previous padre owners look like big spenders.

So basically it is a scrimmage (since won't count towards bowl) that will be held at The Q. A scrimmage that we have to PAY for, and won't count towards a bowl. Just sickening. If we get 10,000 USD fans at $30 a ticket we basically pay for the game, and we get to sell season tickets for 6 games instead of 5. Really important to add another P5 home amd home. Would like schedule to be... FCS - scholarship level Non P5 - USF, Tulsa, Memphis etc. Always at home, buy the game. Pac12 - home or away Other P5 - the opposite of the Pac12 game. Always have 3 home games and at least one marquee game. Some will say we can't afford two buy games, but I disagree. We could also use our 13 game year to play away at a Cincinatti or UCF instead of buying the game because we would still have three home games with the 5 NonCon games.

“Our kids work very, very hard and they deserve to play 12 games,” Sterk said. “To have a game before we play Cal is very important to us, and that’s the biggest reason for doing something like this.”
I would've prefer us to play a team of higher competition but if this allows our team to prep for Cal and have 12 games then so be it. It looks like we didn't have a choice and we were backed into a corner.
You know our team will still play hard since it's live football other then hitting each other in practice. And now we got another city championship! Let's just make the best out of it and prep to kick their ass!

Regardless, they're not gonna fork over $30 to watch this turd. I'd eat my hat if that happens. Does anyone know the operating cost of an Aztec football game at the Q? We'd save on that alone.

I absolutely love this. It will be attended well and we will kick their ass. Ya think? If an FBS program can't beat a non-scholarship program by at least 50 points, they really need to shut down football or downgrade to NAIA. Then again, they have trouble beating Eastern Illinois and Cal Poly, so maybe a win over USD would come as a surprise.

Does San Diego State have 10,000 fans? Someone needs to inform them that their University has a football program that plays at Qualcomm Stadium on Saturdays. You could shoot deer in those empty stands.

My guess is that expenses are probably an amount equal to about 30% to 40% of the rent they pay per game.

Absolutely everything was tried to fill this date for well over a year. This all happened because the Big East fell through. ESPN even brokered deals for us...than schools back out very late. I have followed this saga for over a year and the person who does the scheduling has been very honest with me. It was very eye opening and quite a learning experience. I'll keep my comments about Northern Arizona to myself (haven't read the article if they are mentioned). We all know what everyone on here is capable of writing about this today. Why not give the program a "mulligan" this once and focus on the other eleven games. I realize if we lose this opener...we will just shut the program down and not play the other eleven games. I'll give you some good news: We should/will announce very soon a home/home you will all be thrilled with. Also...look for some 7 game home schedules very soon and some more good home/home news in the near future. Take a breath. Swallow hard. Relax. It's just one game. In regards to the bold statement, I'll believe that when I see it. This place would complain if we won a National Championship and the Locker Room Tee wasn't red or the font on the hat was too big. But I am excited about the future news. Thanks Dave L for the info.

Even with that really low amount, SDSU pays more in rent for the Q than the Chargers do

Its made MY list of "Crap To Get Worked Up About" at position 1457, just ahead of worn out window squeegee's at the gas station but behind the Stabucks Barista not leaving enough room in my cup for Half and Half. Stupid Barista!

Just wait. Sterk will give San Diego University fans some kinda special deal. A ticket, a hot dog and a Coke for 15 bucks. The ticket will be for the top deck but those ingrates will just make a bee line for the plaza section and nobody will stop them from sitting all around me. Got a hunch I'm gonna need to supplement my pre-game beer with some shots to survive this one.
