Nothing to gain and everything to lose.
If SDSU finds away to lose that game Coach Long can start packing his bags.

Just pathetic, nothing at all to gain. How can Sterk have issues scheduling 12 games? "SDSU ran into scheduling issues for a couple of reasons. The Aztecs had a series scheduled with Navy that would have included ‘15, but that was cancelled when both teams appeared to be heading for the Big East in 2013. When SDSU opted to stay in the Mountain West, a non-conference series with San Jose State was eliminated because the Spartans are part of the MW. In working to fill out the ’15 slate, John David Wicker, senior associate athletic director, said he received verbal commitments from a couple of schools who later reneged. Wicker said one particular school changed the parameters and wanted SDSU to travel first. There were “really good conversations” with one SEC school, Wicker said, but it didn’t work out." I'm really curious as to which "couple of schools" SDSU had received verbal commitments from and later backed out. These are schools, as it seems, a big reason behind being forced to schedule USD. Not the fault of the Aztec AD staff there. I'm also curious as to which SEC school scheduling plans didn't work out with

And in Ann Arbor, Jim Harbaugh is probably wishing he could have had this matchup 10 years ago when he was at USD. So will this game also be the Sky Show game?

Since we will be bowl eligible this season with or without the USD game, even 4 years later I stand by my original position of "If we are scheduling the likes of Who Cares Tech of Louisiana, Why Not Schedule USD?".
If you can't get a Michigan or even a Purdue to come here, and have trouble handling the likes of E. Illinois and Cal Poly SLO on your home field, why not fill a few extra seats and create just the tiniest bit of buzz with a game against USD? I guarantee our guys will not overlook that one. You can piss and moan if you want, but I'm looking forward to it.

So basically it is a scrimmage (since won't count towards bowl) that will be held at The Q. pretty much. Very similar to some of the BB games we play every year. Will you PLEASE stop defending the administration? It's NOT very similar to some of the BB games we play every year. Every year, everybody plays a couple hoops scrimmages. However, only the truly pathetic dregs of the FBS play non-scholarship opponents. Gawd I'm embarrassed to be a season ticket holder right now.

Absolutely everything was tried to fill this date for well over a year. This all happened because the Big East fell through. ESPN even brokered deals for us...than schools back out very late. I have followed this saga for over a year and the person who does the scheduling has been very honest with me. It was very eye opening and quite a learning experience. I'll keep my comments about Northern Arizona to myself (haven't read the article if they are mentioned). We all know what everyone on here is capable of writing about this today. Why not give the program a "mulligan" this once and focus on the other eleven games. I realize if we lose this opener...we will just shut the program down and not play the other eleven games. I'll give you some good news: We should/will announce very soon a home/home you will all be thrilled with. Also...look for some 7 game home schedules very soon and some more good home/home news in the near future. Take a breath. Swallow hard. Relax. It's just one game.

Do you understand how we ended up in this position? If you did you wouldn't be so embarrassed since it was unavoidable. And yes it's just like the non-rpi games we play in MBB...no reward only risk...and of course PT for developing players.

I HAVE NO WORDS.............. Nor do I since everything I post keeps getting deleted for some inexplicable reason. Three and counting . . . The moderators must be in league with Jim Sterk.

It's a warm up game before we play Cal. I don't get why people are so emotional about this.

Look...it's no secret that I'm one of the biggest homers (and/or Pollyanna) on the board...but this scheduling move has even me scratching my head...
I'm certain that Palomar College was available...and probably about the same level of competition - if not better
In all seriousness there is no reason that we couldn't find a "cupcake" from the WAC (ala NAU) to at least bring in an out of town team to play in front of a home-town fans...
Probably has more to do with SDSU not needing to pay for the visiting team's expenses as we toss away the diamonds we find in order to mine more coal...

man...it's like people don't know games are scheduled YEARS in advance and that adding a team to your conference that was a future OOC game can cause problems. Most teams (FCS included) already had the date booked and teams that ESPN grabbed for us backed out because they wanted us to travel first. Is it that hard to understand? Thanks to SJSU we essentially had to accept and 11 game schedule or play a 12th game we didn't want...the good old 2 evils dilemma.

Many D-1 schools schedule an FCS tune-up game at the start of the year...why are some so against this? State has been doing it for years (Cal-Poly, Eastern Illiois, etc.) Having it be USD this year just makes it more interesting from a local standpoint...

Isn't it the job of an AD to prevent and correct problems, not exacerbate them? Seems like Rocky and Sterk can be counted on for myriad excuses. I guess in trying to be proactive and join the Big East ... we created some unintentional problems -- then when we rejoined the MWC, we created more: "SDSU ran into scheduling issues for a couple of reasons. Folks seem to have a hard time actually reading the entire article...
