Basically $11M in renovations for ADA compliance ... not earth shattering, and probably overdue "These changes will reduce the stadium's capacity from 30,000 fans to about 26,000, and season ticket prices will jump a couple hundred dollars depending on where you're sitting."I thought d-1 status required 30,000 seats? You are required to have a minimum attendance of 15K averaged over a 2 year period.

Spending hundreds of millions of dollars to build a stadium in the hope that a P5 comes a callin" is a bit like the homely girl, with no personality, spending her life savings on a prom dress in the hope that the most popular boy in class will ask her to the prom. San Diego State is far more sexy than you think. Why do you think the BE considered adding a school that has done almost nothing in FB for over two decades? Just because we're not your type...don't get it twisted. lol What's the BE? By the way, we were the homely friend of the cutish girl who wouldn't go to the prom with the second string QB unless they let us tag along in that "relationship."

Or we were the largest available non power school market out there...and we control our market. Your comments are akin to..."this is gonna be hard"...."we shouldn't even try"... Not all Aztec fans are scared to aspire for more. Luckily the current University administration doesn't think along the lines you think they should.

Not all Aztec fans are scared to aspire for more. Luckily the current University administration doesn't think along the lines you think they should. You do note that the BE (now the AAC in football) isn't a P5 conference, right? There are only two P5 conferences that would be a fit for SDSU, either the PAC-12 or the Big-12. We are not even on the radar for the former and I haven't seen any interest from the latter. What happens if we spend all that money on a stadium and don't get a P5 invite? Again, I have posted many times that I think the stadium we play in is well down the list when it comes to things a potential P5 conference would look at. The biggest issues with SDSU lie in the fact that the program hasn't been successful for years which leads to a very modest amount of interest/support in the region. When we made the jump to the WAC (which was a good conference) all those years ago there was quite a bit of "goodwill" in place (built by Coryell/Gilbert and winning) which gave the program some space while they made the transition (read: losing) to a better conference. At that time the fans said we would shortly dominate the WAC because of all the better athletes in Southern California. The only problem is that domination never happened, either in the WAC, the MWC or the watered down MWC we are in now. There is no "goodwill" left and making the step into a P5 conferences with the predictable 2-3 win seasons we would undoubtedly suffer (at least initially though history isn't quite on our side for getting much better than mediocre in a more defined conference) could return us back to the point where you see attendance in the teens (or less). San Diego has a well known/earned reputation for not coming out to watch losing teams.

Everyone said Utah State was not a good addition to the Mountain. Well they are better in football then we though.
San Jose has been getting good players because it is a Calif. school, but does not have the money to improver their football stadium.
We have survived because of Basketball income.
Football has to improve and we will be OK. If basketball drops off when Fisher retires we better have football making money.

I would say we're not the only ones who feel there are no more excuses this year. IOW, no treading water or Rocky will be forced to retire after this season. I think that spiel Sterk gave about the Top 25 came from above, in behalf of the major boosters.

Whatever is said about a stadium, one thing is for sure,......it would be awesome to have a stadium for Aztec Football any which way you slice it! It won't be a factor in getting to a P5 directly, but it would help getting recruits to come play here, much like Viejas did for hoops. Potential recruits love the game day atmosphere at Viejas.
Imagine if SDSU football was sold out week in week out. Just knowing a fan is going to a "full" stadiums really lifts their spirits.

Yeah, look no further than other MW members with much smaller stadiums and attendance, yet far better game day experiences. If we do share with the Chargers the design and setup would have to be unprecedented to avoid prior failures (i.e. Pitt).

The piteous truth is that until real change on the ground occurs---replacing unctuous and empty speeches---the football program will continue to lose interest from fans. We dropped three percent in attendance last year, and we'll likely drop more this year. The Three Stooges--Hirshy, Sterky and Rocky---need an upgrade, or replacement, for someone who is competent and ambitious.

Everyone expected attendance to fall before the season even started once the home slate and conference schedule was released. I think AFA was the only home game against a team with a winning record. I've been to BB game "sellouts" when we play BB teams of similar quality. You know you sourpusses should look at how popular we are with CBS Sports. Lost in all the belly aching is the reality that our tv market is valued very highly among the non-P5's. This is why so many of our games end up on CBS sports (they get first pick, before ESPN).

How does your reflection alter or address, the concerns raised? Our football program is on an unsteady, meandering course, sired and promulgated, by our questionable "leaders".
