Basically a win says SDSU is for real in the media eyes and not Arizona had a bad day.

Biggest game in history? Arizona fans must not be the only ones with a short memory. Biggest game in relation to the media attention it will generate. Maybe I'm crazy but I think beating Arizona to make our first ever Elite 8 would have generated just a bit more media attention than an early season non-conference game.

That was then but this now and now counts the most. Zona fan here. On the surface there is no upside in this game anymore for Arizona, we are expected to win and if we do great, but it is not going to make our season. However, a win by SDSU is huge for you guys since your conference is down this year and I am sure despite that you will be demanding a 1 seed in the West come March if you win this game. I think rather then bashing on Arizona you should just have some respect for us willing to play you. Ask Bill Self about playing Wichita St or how about K or Roy scheduling a home and home or playing in a tournament with VCU? However I love that we are playing you and hope we continue to do so because Miller, like Lute Olson before him is not going to run away from good teams or only schedule them at home. If it were up to me we would play a home and home with you guys, UNLV, Gonzaga and New Mexico all the time. This is not college football a couple of losses is not the end of the world and we will be fine on the recruiting front even if we drop some games. I was at the game last year and absolutely loved "the show", you have one of the best game day atmospheres in the country. Sure your fans say disrespectful things but so that is what fans do and it was amusing to see the look on some students faces when my wife lit them up. I also hope we absolutely crush you...but I do not except that at all. I also think this game will help Arizona even if we lose, since we are having trouble forming a cohesive team and a loss will certainly allow Miller to get the team's attention. Of course, I would love for the team to form cohesion in a win. Best of luck after tonight Beating SDSU is a feather in the cap for Arizona. Times have changed. It's not a given anymore.

Beating SDSU is a feather in the cap for Arizona. Times have changed. It's not a given anymore. Of course it is, but Arizona has a lot of opportunities to get feathers. We could do so in a way that has less downside for us, that is how most programs like Arizona operate. I am glad we are not operating that way.

SDSU will be in so long as we have a good season. It's another test between two good teams in the west, and unlike a bunch of Aztecs in Tucson, we are around Arizona fans in SD, so we interact more with your fans. I will caution your fanbase to not get too high on your horse. Nationally, you are a good team, not great (more highly regarded than SDSU, fwiw). You aren't out of the earning-the-respect woods yet. Just my thoughts.

We're bashing the fans who post at PGU and some of the stupid things they said. We all have a ton of respect for U of A and their tradition. We realize that U of A is the standard bearer for best in the west. We get that.

Unlike this dude, I'm not going to judge their whole fanbase according to a few a-holes that every fanbase has......but this guy "Wize" sounds like a whiney loser who puts way too much thought into his precious team's standing in the world. We aren't any team's "little brother", and I'm sure Coach Miller and his players don't look at SDSU in that light either. Sean Miller is to be commended for scheduling like he does. He's one of the few blue-blood coaches who actually has a spine. I know Miller recognizes the benefits gained from playing us nearly every year, both from a competition standpoint, and a recruiting standpoint. I know a lot of passionate UofA fans that are cool and respectful (my wife went there, so I know many), but this guy? Get a life, LOSER! I live in Phoenix. Most U of A fans are the polar opposite of that Wize cry baby. They actually enjoy watching our two teams play. I would agree with your take that most of their fans dont mind playing us. They've had our number the last 3 games. And its become a decent rivalry in the making. I will disagree with one of their posters saying that we have a lil brother complex with them. Even with their being able to lure San Diego area recruits away, and with their success, i've personally never seen the same type of animosity our fanbase has towards the likes of UCLA. UofA is respected, but i don't think we will ever have the same type of vitriol hated for them that we do others.

Looking forward to playing you guys. Enjoyed the games we've played the last few years and win or lose it's going to be a good game for our team. Also, most real Arizona fans would rather smoke a dog turd wrapped in grass clippings than give that shithead ACE a single page view or spend one second on PointGuardU, so you can all take that for what it's worth. I work with a U of A alumnus who just told me this at lunch today. hahahaha I'm out here in Phoenix so most of the people here are Sun Devils or Wildcats.

To be the best, you have to beat the best. A 180 from why I want to see us crush UCLA. Because those cowards keep ducking us.

The only year we didn't play was because we lost to UConn in 2011. Playing Arizona in the elite 8 would have been incredible.

Were did I say that your tourney hopes ride this game? I said your 1 seed hopes ride on this game, since you will be favorites in every game you play after this until the tournament. You win this game you have a chance to enter March Madness undefeated. Your schedule this year is much weaker then last year because the MWC is down. Agreed with all the posters above, your win in Kansas was huge last year and bigger then this game.

This is the same reason the BCS conference teams don't want to play non-BCS teams in football, especially in bowl games. I see their point, but SDSU was actually better than UA for a few years until they hired Miller and he started having huge recruiting success. Even now the teams are pretty evenly matched since Fisher is the better coach. Miller just crushes it in recruiting. Miller is one of the best coaches in the country. He also happens to be an outstanding recruiter. Not sure why it's necessary to disrespect your opponents. I like playing AZ on the regular and I hope it continues. As a program, it's best to gauge your progress against certain "benchmark" programs of which Arizona is one; the only one willing to play us regularly. That dude in the other forum is correct in asserting that there is more benefit to us in these games.

My cousins here are diehard Wildcat fans. Trying to find a place to watch tonight's game that will avoid me getting into a fist fight with a whiny AZ fan. Any Aztec friendly spots in the city??? I know theres a pretty strong ASU fanbase here, so lots of hate for UofA already, but just curious if you know of a spot for us Aztecs. I wish I knew of one in town. I'm watching the game from home tonight due to me having to get some work done. You are right about ASU fans pulling for SDSU. If you hit up a sports bar, you're gonna get some friendly banter directed at you all game. I've had fun when being the only SDSU fan in the house. I haven't run into any idiot U of A fans in public yet. Maybe I've been lucky.

Everyone knows you guys are legit, and there isn't a single program in the country that would boost your guys' status any higher than it already is. You guys get the top recruits just like Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, etc. Every team that faces you has more to gain than Arizona does

I am tired of hearing how they own us. So I will practice some spin In the Diamond head classic we were all set to win our 3rd game in a row against the Wildcats and our 15th in a row against the PAC-12. But somehow some miracle block changed fate. Last year the Wildcats were a #1 seed and we played them twice. When we were better than them in 2011 (higher seed) we didn't play. Maybe if we played them twice that year and not at all last year we would be 4-1 against them over the past 6 years.

The same thing could be said about Arizona. A down conference, but you do have the better OOC. Losing one game doesn't knock anyone out, but every game, in effect, matters.

Best of luck after tonight Wasn't there a recent run (for a short few years) where MWC schools were crushing PacX in both football and basketball? Maybe not exactly crushing, but at least winning more than 50%. I still find it amusing that a lot of Pac fans/writers don't have nearly the respect for us the coaches and players do. The questions some of the Husky beat writers had for Lorenzo Romar last year, prior to UW playing us, were hilarious. They basically were implying they were doing SDSU a favor by playing us. This is Washington!! Romar, for his part, at least scoffed at some of the dumber questions. We do have respect for your coach scheduling us, it's been said many times on this board, but it's not like it's some HUGE favor to us any more. But I definitely do hope we renew with UofA several times over and it develops into a little OOC rivalry. Otherwise, great post, and welcome to the board. Should be a great game tonight.
