I just put in my reservations at GoAztecs... here's what I'm on the hook to do, how about you? - Poinsettia (actually, already have tickets) - Vegas (I can dream, right?) - Cactus (never heard of it, but it's in January!) How about others... which game would you go to? I want a January Bowl game!!

Freezing in the Tundra Bowel for three hours just to watch the Aztecs play Turd U. still doesn't mitigate the curse of December travel.
Gotta be a local game.

SDSU vs Navy in Pointsettia Boise is now ranked #23, with Marshall #24. Considering that Boise will be playing better competition the next couple games, if they win both games, they're a virtual lock for the Fiesta Bowl. As to AFA, given the proximity of Colorado Springs to Albuquerque, it makes sense for them to play in the NM Bowl. Plus, as already discussed, Binkowski has pretty much said that if the Aztecs finish 7-5, the PB would be pleased to take us and Navy. To me, the only thing preferable would be for us to be able to play a Pac opponent in the Cactus Bowl.

Sterk mentioned the other day we got the MGC to sign off on the pecking order for the Bowls that the conf sends teams to -- in other words no political BS or favortism. Where you finish determines where you go. Having said that, I don't know what the order is and where we stand ..can anyone elaborate? not to be too much of a downer, but getting into a bowl with a fairly mediocre record doesn't get me too excited. what it does tell me (which is something everybody already knows) is that way too many mediocre and even bad teams get into bowls because there's just too many of them. I'm sure the program uses the stats of 5 straight years of bowl eligibility for recruiting but I don't think a bowl game with teams that have 6 or 7 wins is really that impressive of a feat. there are 39 bowl games and 128 Division 1 football schools. that means that of the 128 schools, 78 make it to a bowl which is 61% of the total schools. that means a lot of very average programs play in a bowl. that means that a lot of bowl games are boring.............

A lot of what you say is surely true. On the other hand, would you rather have far fewer bowls and see the Aztecs stay home after a 10-win season, which happened in '72, '76, and '77? Also happened to Wyoming in '96, and to 8-win Aztec teams in '95 and '96. As long as there is a bowl that invites us, let's accept that invitation. AzWm

AzWm I'd like to see an Aztec team win 10+ games in a season, go to a legitimate bowl, win and dedicate the win to past teams that won 8-9-10 games in a season and ended up with d*ck. I like the atmosphere of the Vegas Bowl and the chance to see BSU, CSU or USU go up against Utah would be a gas. Any team from the MW West Division...yawn...

ATTENTION SAN DIEGO STATE ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT!!!The typical fan is NOT somebody like me who will complain a bit but just keep coming back for more because he's a true fanatic for Aztecs football. No. The typical fan is this guy. Start performing to the level that San Diego State is fully capable of performing at and there will be 20K-30K more like him who will support your team. But keep flailing away qualifying for toilet bowls and guys like this just won't support the program. And I for one won't blame them.

However, the place we call the "Athletic Department" doesn't appear to share that feeling. They're much too busy laughing, scratching and patting each others butts (no cupping), basking in prosaic self-praise.
