HOLCOMB WALTON BLAND Franklin Heath Slaughter BURNS SHELTON Leonard Franklin
These guys elevated the program status more than any others in the FISHER era. People who turned heads just by coming to school at a JOKE SCHOOL.

Billy White had some of the biggest games in Aztec history including 28 points vs #8 New Mexico his junior year. 30 points at #11 Gonzaga his senior year 21 points and 12 rebounds vs #8 BYU his senior year Billy White also went an entire game without taking a single shot in both his junior and senior years. Billy White also went an entire game without grabbing a single rebound four times his junior year and twice his senior year. Thus is the story of Billy White. One of those games in which he did not grab a rebound in his junior year was in the MWC tournament against the Lobos a 72-69 victory. His line was despicable that game.... 11-14 from the field and 5-5 from the line good for 28 points in 35 mins. My view on Billy is that he was not built to be a star for the Aztecs in his time because of who he played with, but he was an excellent complimentary player, who was money when it was a big game. He was an emotional player who got in trouble with that but he played hard on d, his track back blocks were momentum changers, and he was a winner. He doesn't deserve the b.s. that some dish here. Top 10 in Fisher era? Maybe. Top 20 without a doubt.

We may not have been playing good basketball before Fisher started here, but we were not a Joke!

We weren't exactly 12,414 in those days and Bill would sit near me with his legs over the top of the seats in front of him and tirelessly sign a bazillion autographs while trying to watch his kid play.

Before I start my response, I want you all to know that I fully expect my response to be misunderstood. Hell, I tell my wife frequently that I am the most misunderstood many alive and . . . almost before I can finish saying it . . . there she goes and proves me right! Here's what I was thinking. How many of Fisher's outstanding players actually graduated, either right at the end of their time here or perhaps at a later date? Don't misunderstand (okay, go ahead and misunderstand if you choose to), I don't for a moment blame a young man for leaving early if he really thinks he can make it as a pro. Many young men (women, too) would be foolish to turn down a promising career in pro sports if they have the talent. Heck, I would have done it myself had I been gifted with the kind of talent that many of our best student-athletes have. What would the Fisher all-time all-star team of SDSU graduates look like? AzWm

I think we should revisit this thread in 5 years... when coach Fisher decides to retire.

You are all missing JJ OBrien. Uh. JJ wouldn't make my top 20. Yeah he's a great roll player but he's never carried the team on his back like everyone on most of these top 10 lists have.

Sky is on the list of best lefties.
And I definitely put Lo Wade ahead of Billy White in my opinion. Wade carried the team a lot in those days.

1. Kawhi Leonard 2. X. thames 3. D.J Gay 4. Billy White 5. Malcolm Thomas 6. Chase Tapley 7. Jamaal Franklin 8. Brandon Heath 9. Richie Williams 10. Mohomad Abukar
The top seven should be indisputable because they constitute the major players in each sweet-16 run. I was shocked to see DJ left off some top ten lists. He was virtually the same player as X two years before X. Absolutely lethal, especially under the gun. DJ helmed SDSU's first sweet 16 for chrissake! As for the Fisher players prior to the NCAA runs, I am biased because I only got involved with SDSU hoops in 2006, so I can't speak on some of the older players. But I will say that Richie Williams was one of the most exciting players I've ever seen. Brandon Heath, too. I would bet that in a couple of years a lot of these guys will get bumped off by the Popes and Shepards.

Just a reminder for those that forgot what a performance DJ Gay had against UNM.

We may not have been playing good basketball before Fisher started here, but we were not a Joke! I am an alum. I am sad to say that our program WAS a JOKE (at least for a decade) pryor to Steve Fisher. FISHER's name got a few higher profile freshman and bounce back recruits in the door...then he made something out of them. His name is STILL the main selling point at SDSU, but by the time he's done perhaps we can stand on the program not just on the coach. THAT does not happen at very many places in college basketball.....maybe UCLA is one example, KANSAS....but really it's the coach that gets the school the recognition.

Here's mine ... I try to combine skill and importance to the program
1. KL - He's the gift that keeps on giving. Plus, he's made the NBA fun again 2. Holcomb - Put SDSU back on the map. When he was drafted, it was surreal. 3. Jamaal - Bridged the gap between KL and the top 10 recruiting class. He was a GREAT college bball player 4. X - A Sweet 16 without the NBA Finals MVP. 5. Bottoms - Winning MW Championships, amazing story, and some NBA love. 6. C Tap - Most wins in program history, opened the Sacramento pipeline. 7. T. Bland - Started the SDSU transfer movement, gave SDSU a foothold in LA, great assistant coach. 8. Slaughter - MW championships, great oversees career. Proved you can make millions by coming to SDSU. 9. Shelton - Winner, rap game, united the city with his music, brought national attention. Great ambassador. 10. Walton - Props to bagtec. He's right, Chris' signing here was huge.
