One of the best available prospects -- Thon Maker -- has schedule three official visits. Five-star power forward Thon Maker scheduled a trio of official visits on Thursday, his guardian Ed Smith told Scout. Maker, who recently took a trip to Kansas, will visit UNLV this coming weekend. Maker will then take a month off, before visiting Arizona State on April 18th and Notre Dame on April 25th. How does UNLV get NBA talent when they suck as a team? Money Talks. I'm not surprised by the fact he's looking at UNLV - it's an attractive town for 18-20 year olds; they have great facilities; it's a well known program.
What's surprising is he has them interviewing first, WITHOUT a firm HC? Why would you want to get the know the coaching staff if they may be gone in 2-3 days? Their AD did say she'd have someone "within a week or two", so maybe they're making an announcement, or they've already decided on someone internally (current guy or Augman) & haven't announced?
I think he either a) never plays a college game, or b) plays for Hurley at ASU when push comes to shove. Vegas can be attractive; ND is an historic place. But it's mid-March, cool in most places, but 1000's of sundresses in Tempe!

Majur Majak 7’1” Center from Village Christian (Sun Valley CA) is an import and a promising rim-protector and rebounder + Thon Maker's cousin. Class of 2018.

BTW he graduated HS in 2015, so technically he has been out for a year. The story comes from the NBA Draft Express.

Blows me away that Diallo played 200 NCAA minutes averaged 3.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg, Maker 0 games and 0 minutes and the most experienced Labissiere; 500+ minutes, 6.6 ppg, 3.1 rpg are all going to get millions without really a deep resume' of work.

Which is exactly why with these new evaluation rules (e.g. longer time line; ability to hit combine) players like them & Pope are much more in play. It's not about what you HAVE done it's about what you CAN do down the road. Where's your ceiling. All these players have high ceilings.
On Thon, technically he graduated from HS in 2015 BUT I believe he reclassified to 2016 & then attended a prep school. So he was in HS this year, although technically a prep. MANY players have done the same, but did not believe they were eligible for the draft. Hence the potential major change. I think the biggest factor though is he's entering the draft as a Foreign player, which doesn't have the 1-year out requirement, and only has the 19+ one.
Not surprised one bit. I was surprised when he said he was going to reclassify to 2016 and even attempt to play college ball.

It's amazing how some of these kids avoid college like the plague. He'd only have to do 1 year of college. It's not like you're making money during your 1 year of prep either... and it's a lot less fun I'd imagine

Why should these kids pretend to be a student for a year when their goal is to play in the NBA right away? I'm happy that Maker doesn't want to pretend to be a student for an entire calendar year. The one-and-done rule is a joke.

It makes perfect sense. A lot of the big men coming out of college don't have the potential to be stars in the NBA. Diallo, Maker, and Labissiere have boatloads of potential. Why draft a future bench player at #20 (e.g.: Brice Johnson or AJ Hammons) when you can take a chance on a potential game-changer in Diallo, Maker, or Labissiere?

The one-and-done rule is a joke. Obviously I'm not saying that so he can be a "student" for a year. I think the 1 and done is a joke also, they should be allowed to go straight out of high school. But since it is what it is, I don't understand why people try to jump through tons of hoops to avoid doing a year of college, unless it's to make money for that year (like going overseas or something). Obviously i don't know his personal reasons but it seems like poor advising to go to prep school for a year where he also can't make money, as opposed to going to college and showcasing yourself against good competition, having great coaching, go to the NCAA tourney, etc.

can the charade be stopped now . Just let the graduating seniors from HS go into the NBA .Let the NBA set up a true Minor league system similar to Baseball . Prep Academies for basketball are another joke .

From just reading between the lines... The number one reason these players don't go to college...is because they can't make the grades... Not really even sure these kids can read or write...they spent all of their time perfecting a jump shot rather than studying unimportant things...like math and reading... Instead of simply apply some arbitrary age requirements...the NBA should require some type of standardized testing (Wonderlic test?) wonderlictestsample.com/wonderlic-test-sample/50-question-wonderlic-test/Passing the test...is your first step in entering the NBA draft
