There is a reason why people say "you are who you associate with". SDSU is looking to do much more research as part of a university wide initiative. Associating with other universities that are recognized for academics is a must. It has been discussed on this forum that the move to the Big East was applauded by faculty for the same reason. So many of the schools in the MWC are garbage, SDSU needs to be with better company. BTW, it is a very real possibility that SDSU will either break from the CSU system or be private all together in the next 5-10 years, so that needs to be considered as well. What evidence do you have for this? If Berkeley, UCLA, and UCSF are having trouble gaining some autonomy from the UC system with regards to tuition what makes you think SDSU will completely break away or even become private? From a research stand point, would UCSD continue to collaborate with SDSU if it became private? Evidence? Just meetings on campus with those that know what conversations are going on. SDSU will only continue to put more into the CSU system than it gets out and desires to expand past the constraints allowed by the CSU charter. Would there be political opposition? Probably, but for SDSU to survive as an institution changes need to be made and that is recognized all the way at the top. Would UCSD to continue to collaborate? Yes. Keep in mind though that SDSU collaborates with universities all over the world, so even if that door shut more would open, including the ability to offer more PhD programs. Lets be honest, SDSU really is a black sheep in the CSU system - it just doesnt fit and that gulf will only grow larger into the future.

You're getting anger confused with contempt or basically an overall lack of reverence

This thread disintegrated quickly. I don't understand the hate for SDFF. He's a huge SDSU fan. Just because he follows USD, Chargers, or whatever else doesn't negate that to me.

Lets be honest, SDSU really is a black sheep in the CSU system - it just doesnt fit and that gulf will only grow larger into the future. What does SDSU do about its pension and OPEB liabilities? What about selectivity? I doubt 70k applications come in every year if tuition is 30k a year before room and board. If it becomes private, tuition would rise dramatically, would that affect current students or only incoming students? Right now, what attracts students to SDSU is the quality of the education they'll receive for the price they pay. I'm not sure SDSU keeps attracting better students, when those students look at the UCs and see an education that is way more affordable than SDSU. I've always valued State for its public mission, I'm sure many others in the community do as well. If SDSU ever became private, raised tuition, and cut out the lower and middle class students, I don't know if I would continue to donate. I'm sure others feel the same.

Pretty much everyone on this board states their opinion. Opinions from every side of the spectrum. Try again.

Steve, BBA, and Chase Tapley's dad are hated on for the same reason. Nice bumper sticker analysis. Each had clearly very different issues. Tapley's dad was very appreciated by many but caught ire when he countered some of Fisher's in-game lineup decisions and thoughts on this here's team vs those Chase played on. He was spot-on when discussing chemistry but came to unpopular opinions on the cause. BBA trashed everything and everyone not named Jamaal and barely acknowledged Jamaal's few flaws. That deserved ire. Steve was Steve. Love him or hate him. He was very persistent on the Chuck Long and Zuma issues and some grew tired and it went South from there with accusations of extra-curricular actions on some folks parts. Don't flatter yourself. You like trolling Aztec fans when you perceive then being arrogant. You dish it, man up and take it, it is as simple as that. As for John thinking that you are a huge Aztec fan, I differ with that and your psots in this thread support that opinion. Sent from my DROID RAZR using proboards

I was just explaining to John why I get it. I never gave a $#!+ about what you or anyone else think and I never will. What I will do is continue to support San Diego State Athletics for as long as I can afford to do so. Because at the end of the day, its all about the student-athletes who represent my hometown with their blood, sweat, and tears. Not you or any other message board screename. So kiss my ass and have a nice day.

As for John thinking that you are a huge Aztec fan, I differ with that and your psots in this thread support that opinion. I don't see anything in this thread indicating that SDFF isn't an Aztec fan. He took the conversation in a different yet relevant direction when the issue of the WCAC came up. He is right that SDSU is USD's biggest rival. If he thinks USD is SDSU's biggest rival, he's wrong. If anyone thinks BYU regards SDSU as a rival, then that person is wrong. You are correct that SDSU has no rivals. Lots of people can be correct about different things, which is what ostensibly makes a board like this a fun way to pass time. Maybe there's some $#!+ that I don't know about, and if so I don't care to know about it. I'm just confused as to why some of my favorite posters, you included, seem to have it in for this dude. Now SDFF can obviously take care of himself but I can't help but to try to stick up for him. Dude cares about SDSU sports and blogs about it. Is he the next John Clayton or Len Pasquarelli or whoever? Maybe not. Will he win a Pulitzer? Doubtful. He along with others also did an Internet radio show that if I'm not mistaken focused solely on SDSU sports. Is he the next Dan Patrick? No, probably not, but he does his best and that's all a person can do.

I was going write a pithy post about this b*llsh*t, but then I stopped caring. Pretty much exactly reflects my thoughts on USD, actually.

You like to liberally skewer alums here in our support to the teams then try to hide being some cloak of support for the players. Man up and take what you give. Some here are not fully anonymous but are highly active members of the university community, former athletes, continual donors, physical supporters off key athletic and non-athletic programs like the SDSU Veterans outreach. We take our school seriously and when you state platitudes like "blood, sweat and tears" to those of us that actually have, your words are more than hollow, they are laughable.
