They have a thread about expanding to 16 teams and making a four 4-pod divisions. csnbbs.com/thread-686903.htmlSeems to favor Western Expansion... Top 4 Choices are 1. BYU 2. Air Force 3. Army 4. SDSU How on earth anyone would pick Army is beyond me. However, the AAC would then have all the service academies. I could certainly see the AAC losing both Cincinnati (BIG XII) and UConn (ACC). I also think BYU could get an invite to the BIG XII; thus actually putting that conference at 12 members. If they want to go West the best bets that would be available after the BIG XII and ACC took who they wanted would be... 1. SDSU 2. Boise State 3. UNLV 4. Fresno State, Colorado State, New Mexico, Air Force Hopefully, this would be an all sports conference. If not maybe the WCC could be a landing spot for Olympic sports. IMO, much better than the MWC.

Hell yes if it is for all sports. After what happened the last go round there is zero chance of football and basketball being separated for the AAC.

This is interesting. I wonder if there are discussions going on quietly. I sure hope so, but my confidence in our current leadership is close to the Kelvin zero. Seems to me that there's a need to be discreet, but there's no reason to not at least say, "We're exploring, but it's inappropriate to lay out our plans and details", etc.

Nice to see that board hasn't changed one iota. Here's AFA's football regression over the last four years in reverse chronological order: 9-4, 7-6, 6-7, 2-10. AFA's has never brought a single thing except football and now the Flyboys don't even bring that yet most of those numbnuts on the AAC board still think Air Farce is the most valuable western school after BYU. Hell, I'll bet most of those idiots don't even know that since SDSU decided not to join them we've won a bowl game and gone to the NCAA Sweet 16.
That criticism aside, I was hoping the thread was going to indicate there is actually some debate among the AAC schools themselves about again looking West for expansion. The AAC ain't exactly great but it's certainly superior to the MWC in every way except travel distance.

I don't believe the AAC is worth pursuing any longer. TV rights for all sports is just under $2M and the exit fee is $10M with 27 month notice.
An airport meeting would be our most likely best case scenario, however not sure any of the AAC teams would be interested with a 10M exist fee.
Also, I don't believe ybu will get a P5 invite because of no playing on Sundays - at the same time, they can afford to sit back and wait.

But the AAC is also tanking with Louisville off to the ACC next season. They're going to be left with UCF, Cinci, Houston, and.... a bunch of programs that never really were "all that" and after losing coaches that propped them up (i.e. Al Golden at Temple, Randy Edsall at UConn) might never regularly be above .500 again.
I was one of the people leading the charge to join the Big East / AAC before. But now, unless it is for football only and all our other sports can go to the WCC... no thanks.
(Edit: To me, either SDSU makes it into an expanded Big 12 or Pac 14... or falls by the wayside like everyone else outside the P5 -- in terms of football)

No doubt AAC is just mediocre, however mediocre is a step above mwc.

No doubt AAC is just mediocre, however mediocre is a step above mwc. I certainly agree. But I'm now of the opinion that the AAC is no longer ENOUGH better than the MW to justify parking the rest of our sports in the Big West. WCC, on the other hand, yes... in a heartbeat if they'd ever consider taking us. And the notion of putting both football and men's basketball in the ACC is an insane fictional creation that doesn't have the smallest fraction of plausibility.

I thought this poll was about all sports, not that it matters as I'd be shocked if this happened.

WCC - did SDSU become a religious institution?

WCC for basketball?? You guys crazy? Other than Zags/BYWho.....one step above a gym league. Are you happy being in the MWC? If not, where else do we go? The BigLots Conference is ZERO steps above a gym league so the WCC is significantly better than the BLC. And my idea is for SDSU to encourage Fresno, UNLV and UNR to join us as a team. If the WCC took all four of us, half the basketball schools in that league would be decent to good and then the four of us would urge the AAC to consider taking us for football only. On that basis travel expenses would be minimal while we would get the hell out of the MWC which has been screwing us over when it comes to the TV deal. Granted we would have to pay a $2M exit fee to the MWC, but that modest amount would be well worth our freedom. And as I've also said, if the AAC wouldn't take the four of us, we play each other and BYU annually so we would then have just eight games to schedule every year. If BYU has been able to schedule a dozen games per year, we should have no great difficulty getting eight opponents. Plus if the four of us dropped out of the MWC, there's a good chance Hawaii would consider doing the same since they're in that woebegone conference only for football anyway.

WCC - did SDSU become a religious institution? As I've said, Andy Katz reported that the WCC seriously considered taking UCSB three years ago and last year the WCC accepted UOP, which although private is not affiliated with a religion.

Gamble that the PAC or BIGXII ask us to join and pass on the AAC. I have to think that it would only help SDSU in the conversation for the PAC or BIG to be in the AAC instead of the MWC. Of course this is predicated on an all sports in the AAC and we were able to move with a few of our MWC mates (BSU and UNLV come to mind). Lets be honest, if the PAC or BIG come calling a $10M exit fee is not going to stop us. Hell, that is less than half of what a PAC team makes in one season!

WCC was actually better than MWC this past year in basketball, this is with SDSU in MWC, imagine the gap without SDSU. If WCC would take SDSU I would like that, BYU is actually recruiting at a very high level, much higher than when they were in MWC.

Sent from my DROID RAZR using proboards There's not much steam to it due to the fact that they only compete in olympic sports, but you can't name another school that conciders SDSU it's biggest rival.

Their west coast ignorance is funny. Apparently, we lack facilities and BSU football fans won't sit through another 5-7 season.
