Here are all the reasons why:
1. They suck at all their Olympic sports.
2. Their Basketball really sucks, and is now post season ineligible.
3. They have a tiny budget, mirroring Big West schools
4. Maybe they won't suck in the Big West
5. We would have 10 teams in Basketball, which would allow for a true round robin.
6. It would allow for 10 teams in the Big West, and a true round robin.
7. We would keep their football (like Hawaii), and still have a MWC championship game.
8. They have no fan/student support.
9. They would give UC Davis a natural rival, as they no longer have one since Pacific joined the WCC.
10. No one will miss them.
Discuss.

Must be fantasy realignment season again Come on, this makes a ton of sense, and SJSU could be conducive to it.

Honest question: can the Mountain West members vote them out? They actually really do belong in the Big West. Better fit.

Consider this. Vanderbilt has, traditionally, been at the bottom of the SEC. Why haven't they moved to Conference USA or the Sunbelt Conference? I feel very sure it's because they do not want to give up the prestige that comes with membership in the SEC. (And Commodore fans would respond that, finally, their football team is respectable.)
Same thing for Indiana. Don't you think that Hosier FB would be more competitive in the MAC?
Oh, yes, there is one more example I will cite. In football, Oregon State had losing seasons for THENTY-EIGHT STRAIGHT YEARS! ! ! It's true; from 1971 through 1998. Still, I doubt that any Beaver fans were suggesting that OSU should move to the WAC.
This proposal definitely has its points, but SJSU is probably loath to give up the prestige (don't laugh) that accrues to members of the MWC. The Big West would be a step down. And hope springs eternal. Despite their poor showing recently, there is probably no reason why at least some of the Spartans' minor sports should not be able to improve. I predict that their basketball team will not always be as miserable as it is now. Not saying that SJSU will win the MWC championship, but they may rise to middle of the pact status. Don't forget, in basketball, we were absolute road kill for virtually all of the '90s.

We aren't talking about Football though. Hawaii is okay with it, and they actually are good at their Olympic sports.

Indiana and Vanderbilt >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SJSU And neither one has the huge financial problems that SJSU has. My guess is you got this idea from the YBU fan on the MWC board. Initially I was unsure about the idea but the more I think about it, the more I think it makes complete sense both for the MWC and for SJSU, which would save a bunch of money by allowing its Olys to ride buses to most of the BigLots locations.

And we are talking about SJSU, who has been in the conference for 1.5 years, not a school like Indiana or Vanderbilt, who are charter members in their conference, with way more money, alumni, and clout.

The last thing we need is yet another sub-250 RPI squad and someone who was banned from postseason play due to low APR. Already had one of those with UCR a couple years back. Plus, SJSU is so focused on making football work they won't care much for basketball, baseball or anything else the BW values. In short - a reunion with those guys is not a good idea for either party.
Unless the conference grows to 12 by adding UCSD and Seattle as well, no thanks to San Jose State.

In response to aztucho:
1. SJSU baseball is as bad as their basketball. Do they even value non-football sports? 2. Every conference has it's cellar dwellers and SJSU is yours. 3. How can they have such a tiny budget when they play football? 4. This year, they might have been 7th. I guess that's improvement. 5 & 6. More games with the RPI dregs. 7 - 9. I'm with you there. 10. But, but... their market!

If we are going to get rid of SJSU then let's also get rid of Wyoming. The players must all HATE going to that place and it makes us look bad when we lose up in that 756,512 elevation.

Honest question: can the Mountain West members vote them out? They actually really do belong in the Big West. Better fit. As long as SJSU is committed to football, they do not belong with us. UCSD belongs. Seattle belongs. San Jose State does not; they are in the holy trinity of CSU FBS programs so they should be in the same conference as SDSU and Fresno.

In my opinion WE should be the ones looking to move all money-losing (aka "Olympic") sports to the BW. Aztec baseball hasn't suffered much the last couple years in the MW and if I am not mistaken, neither has women's soccer. Don't you believe in having everything under one roof?

SJSU was a charter member so this would be a reunion of sorts. They are also located in an attractive market.
Aztucho hit on the other positives:
- They would be member #10 (I dislike that we are stuck at 9) - Travel partner for UC Davis; they are on an island up north without Pacific around - their budget is more consistent with BW budgets (I don't see it since they have FBS football)
