San Jose State does not; they are in the holy trinity of CSU FBS programs so they should be in the same conference as SDSU and Fresno. You should be banned from this board for saying this. There is NO such thing as a "holy trinity" of CSU football. ---San Jose should drop football and put its other teams in the BW. ---San Diego State should move football and basketball into a credible (or at least less pitiful) league and put its other teams in the BW. ---Fresno can do whatever it wants as long as they aren't associated with us in any important way (ie football, basketball, academic research). You, Fresno and San Jose are all currently in the same conference. You are all dedicated to making FBS football work. And for whatever reason, you can't seem to get away from each other. I thought the "holy trinity" of CSU football had a nice touch to it As long as SJSU is committed to maintaining an FBS football program, a reunion with the BW isn't likely to happen nor should it. Even though we could definitely use another northern member.

Aztec baseball hasn't suffered much the last couple years in the MW and if I am not mistaken, neither has women's soccer. Don't you believe in having everything under one roof? Not in our case I don't. Ideally yes but SDSU's situation for lots of reason is far from ideal. Just in terms of travel, all our teams suffer playing in the MW. If we aren't going to be winning national championships in the money-losing sports, we might as well save money and time while not winning them. Plus the athletes (who actually ARE students more often than not) won't suffer as much traveling to the middle of nowhere. SDSU brings quality programs to the table in other sports and we value those sports a great deal. Unfortunately it's not enough to overlook leaving basketball out of the equation. Every conference would say that too.

Whatever. How would you like for YOUR school (which I presume is UC-Santa Barbara) to be associated as part of ANY kind of "trinity" with the likes of CS-Fresno and San Jose State? It's one thing to be playing softball or Frisbee against these two along with seven or eight others, but don't associate us in any exclusive and/or significant way with those two schools. I guess SDSU fans and alums have a right to do this if they so inexplicably desire, but you don't. San Diego State University is a legitimate institution of higher learning. It's nothing like these glorified junior colleges to which you refer. You know it and I know it even if some SDSU alums and administrators don't. UC Santa Barbara, CS Fresno and San Jose State were associated for a good amount of time - as charter members of the PCAA/Big West, we were in the same conference for 25 years or so and still play each other every few years. and yes, UC Santa Barbara is indeed my school; I graduated in 2009.

I think your opinion is a little inflated. Fresno is a good addition, and SJSU can be as well. You make it sound like we are the Michigan of the MWC.

I love all the PR Tony Gwynn has brought to SDSU over the years but as John and I and like two other people warned the rest of the board at the time, promoting Tony to HC meant hiring an icon who could never be fired. Tony has serious medical problems to such an extent that I would be surprised if he returns after this season. With all SDSU has going for it, I'm convinced that within a few years from now, we will have as good a baseball program as anybody in the downtrodden MWC. Back to the topic at hand, SJSU's Olympic sports and the BigLots Conference are perfect for one another.

SJSU's only chance of rejoining will be if the conference decides on expanding to 12. It will be those two and Seattle. We need another non-CA member who is located in a major western market and Seattle University would fit the bill; their Olympic sports fit us as well as SJSU's does.

Let's talk down on San Jose State while San Diego State has done nothing but win low-tier bowl games and beat on double digit seeds in the NCAA tournament. Both SJSU and SDSU belong in the Mountain WAC.

OK. Ecoutez et repetez: The Big East invited SDSU as a package deal to compliment its big ticket item, Boise State. SDSU wasn't the Big East's first choice. Personally, I would love nothing better than to see Aztec football truly succeed. A 10-2 record this coming year would indicate to me they are ready to compete for the next level. (It would have also indicated they are capable of winning games that truly matter. That in itself could turn heads that matter). Anything less than a 10 win season and another potato bowl tells me that they are firmly entrenched where they truly belong. With all the other "losers" in the MW. Either way, I will continue to follow the team.

People still talk about the Cedar Fires too. Both sucked. We live in a cold unforgiving world full of hardships, so if I able to provide laughter, then looking like a complete idiot was well worth it. Plus I had a great time and got to talk to numerous fans, athletes, and media personalities that I have the upmost respect for. I appreciate you tuning in tho. I'm sure you had better things to do than listen to my crappy podcasts.

What a kook. Any who, if the Big West doesn't want their Olympic sports, send them to the WAC for all I care.

SDSU should never be in a conference with San Jose State; San Jose state shouldn't really be in any D1 conference. What a joke the MWC is.

What a kook. Any who, if the Big West doesn't want their Olympic sports, send them to the WAC for all I care. It's a bad sign if someone would prefer UCSD or a private school in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle) over a former charter member who fills a geographic hole.
