Just up I-15 from the stadium is the Studio Diner. If you tire of burritos, tacos and burgers and want some excellent diner chow, it is the spot.

Never been to Phil's BBQ, but some friends told me the cue is done N. Carolina style (vinegar based sauce). If so, it's not for me. I'm more of a Texas style BBQ fan. I'll be in SD in June, so I need to remember this thread for some new places to try. Is that little taco shop in Bonita still open? They had a great selection.

If so, they are still open. They just moved a few doors down into a bigger location. Same little strip mall though.

If the original poster takes everyone's advice he is going to need a heavy duty military transport plane to get him back home followed by 50 years of dieting.

You've got to check Coop's next time you're in town (Lemon Grove/Chula Vista) if you like Texas style BBQ. Lolita's in Bonita is great but gets really busy. Can be a bit of a wait for a taco shop. Aztec fans, Point me to the best California Burrito in town! Any other restaurant recommendations would be appreciated as well. "Cheap Eats" preferred. I am considering, Phil's BBQ, Tacos El Gordo, Carnita's Snack Shack, and Lucha Libre taco shop. Steer me elsewhere if I am off course. I can't wait for the bowl and to visit one of my favorite cities in the country! Luigi's Pizza is the best Pizza in the States. pizzerialuigi.com/

Luigi's on 25th and B. Bring cash only. Love that place, and you will too. Bronx Pizza isn't bad either. Both places are good.
Avoid Phil's at any cost. The line is not worth it. Try BBQ House in OB. It's right across the street from Hodad's, which is a place you need to stop at too. You'll thank me later. Or if you want some great Texas BBQ, go to Coop's West Texas BBQ in Lemon Grove. Out-f******-standing. It's walking distance from my house, so I'm pretty biased on that. I can smell their cooking.
Taco Shops....Super Sergio's was mentioned. That place is good. Any Roberto's/Alberto's is good. Rosarito #7, again, walking distance form my house is amazing. EVERYTHING is top notch.
And last...it's a little pricy, but Slaters's 50/50. If you love bacon, as every American should, you'll want to go to this place. Make your own burger, and name it. I usually get the Peanut Butter and Jellousy with a Maple Bacon Milkshake. Again, you'll thank me later.

I just recall that they had they had things like sea urchin and marlin on the menu.

On Bonita road next to the paintball store. Authentic Nothern Baja Mariscos.

It isn't a California burrito place, but Cafe Coyote in Old Town isn't to be missed. Cafe Coyote is THE SPOT. Queso fundido w/ chorizo. MMMMMMMMMM. Agree... Cafe Coyote has a really good breakfast menu as well as dinner. And the ladies on the patio make fresh tortillas which are the BOMB! Cafe Coyote is way better than the Old Town Mexican Cafe next door in which I got really sick the last time I went there to eat.

Rudy's market in Solana beach for Carne asada everything,Carnita's etc... Sardinia's off Morena Blvd' for pizza/Italian awesome happy hour. Whole foods in Del Mar easily the best burger, disagree where else can you get free samples of beer.
