Spencer will be NBA. Winston the Shepard I shall not want to dribble so much. He hit a jump shot that went in like he finally is starting to shoot the ball. His reaction was like saying thatShep should be Spen's BFF. What, does Shep think he is going to be a superstar like Evan Burns or like Kwahi Leonard? Shepard the goat herder or Shepard the star basketball player? One takes on the work and the other sits and watches bahhhhhhhhing all day.

Like Fisher said. This is the way we should play in terms of effort and togetherness. It's about the team, the team, the TEAM!

IMO Shepard will be fine and is just going through maturity growing pains as a freshman....He hasn't learned to reel in his high school, street ball swagger and control his high octane emotion....very similar to Jamaal Franklin actually....except unlike 'Maal as a freshman, he's getting a lot of PT leading up to post-season play. Hopefully he can eventually take these little lessons constructively....If he does (and I believe he will)...and continues to smooth out his shot and give max effort at all times...he will be a LEGEND on the Mesa. He has the technique on his shooting, he just needs the confidence and a lot of PT....His potential is absolutely ridiculous and it's worth waiting on his maturity to catch up to see if he becomes the monster player he is capable of being.

Shep will be fine. He's a super talent, he wants to be great and is learning to handle failure.

Some words of advice for Shep:
Research Khawi Leonard. Then research Evan Burns.
Both were "good" kids. Both had amazing talent. Evan's talent was beyond any I have ever seen at SDSU. Period. Khawi worked hard. Burns played "hard" (hard as in I'm a hard ass, bad ass, better than anyone else out here, and with a "I don't need to work hard)" attitude.
Where do you want to end up Shep?
Making millions of dollars, being an NBA player, supporting your family and yourself for the rest of your life or being a gopher in the movie industry in LA making less than 30K a year?
Personally, I think that is why you chose Fisher as coach.
Be a team player. Don't ever shoot a three. Ever. Don't hold the ball longer than three seconds. Drive to the basket and dunk it or pass it. Don't EVER STARE AT A REF. Don't ever talk to ref. Don't ever talk back to a coach. Play your ass off on D. Play as hard as you can every second you are in the game. Get this team to a Final Four.
If you do that, you will be a top 10 draft pick. If you don't, you'll be just another former college player and working stiff like us (and countless others like Evan Burns).

I'm not really buying the "Shepard is a freshman so he's just immature" explanation. We have another freshman on the team and he's hasn't expressed an ounce of immaturity. He REALLY has a lot of growing up to do. I hope he does before he decides to make a stupid decision to transfer to a school close to home (Texas area).
And another thing, Shepard wasn't the man on his high school team. UNLV frosh Anthony Bennett was.

I wondered where he was late in the game yesterday and this discussion gives some answers. I sure hope he gets his head screwed on tight and learns the team concept.

What kinda concerned me was after Shep made his pull up jumper he pointed with one finger to his own chest repeatedly while staring angrily at the Aztec bench. That and turning his jersey inside out really concern me. But I'll leave it to Coach Bland to educate the kid in his way about team play.

Arizona frosh Ashley & Oregon frosh Artis were both rated higher. Not to mention current Findlay Prep senior Williams-Goss was on the floor more the Shep last season. You can tell he really WANTS to be the man though, which overall isn't a bad thing. He has to learn that he'll get that title by doing things differently, he needs to lead by example (& spend many extra hours in the gym working on his J!).

LBF had a whole lot to do with Shep getting his shirt turned right side out. LB certainly is coming from a different place that JF. LB was a star recruit (though not a huge star) and had to work very hard to play at all. He knows how hard the Aztec teams worked over that last few years, and he has enjoyed the success of the team. Perhaps Shep might do better if the non-stars on the team took him aside.

What we're seeing is a guy that is used to being THE MAN, not be the man. The guy seems super competitive, wants to play well, and wants to play hard. It's just a matter of Winston conforming to a team atmosphere that doesn't peg the entirety of his emotions on his own personal play. He's in a really delicate spot right now IMO and I hope things work out well for Winston. If things work out well for Winston, they will work out for the Aztecs. I think he's in good hands. Put it this way, if he were at New Mexico, he'd be ankle deep in Alford's dog house and on the verge of transferring. Or he would have been straightened out by now, 20 games into the season.

I don't mind celebrations, but this was a little over the top with the "me, me, me." Not sure he has completely bought into the "team" concept yet. I hope he matures because in a couple years he is going to be one hell of a player. The two freshman look like future all MWC type players. The amount of editorializing that often happens on this board is what is interesting to me...

Love to see bland yelling at him. He's a freshman and needs to earn his minutes. Jamaal barely played as a freshman and became one of the team leaders by learning from the bench. Jamaal hasn't always had a good attitude either but that seems to have improved a lot. Hoping Shep learns to compose himself.

That's too bad, but with a 'tude, and acting like that you can bet he won't see much playing time. Fisher wants team players who don't complain about how much time they get. If, you want less time then make a scene and you will get less time.
Sounds like he still needs to mature some more because that act won't win you any playing time, or even an Oscar!

Quite honestly people read too much into this garbage. Shepard knows that once he begins to shoot better and gets back in transition he will be starting. Shep plays great half court defense, takes it hard to the hole, and rebounds. His shooting will improve over the summer once he shoots 500 balls a day and hits the weight room.
