If he doesn't change his attitude in the MWC tourney, or especially in the NCAA tourney, then he should be officially declared a head case. Those are the kind of guys who bounce around from school to school and don't reach their potential. IF he has any intelligence, he'll figure it out.

Don't know the kid and honestly have't spoken to any insiders, however, I see a kid who has been seriously spoiled. With Tony Bland, Tim Shelton, Steve Fisher, Chase Tapley among other positive role models speaking with him, he still doesn't seem to get it....I think this kid needs to stop having excuses made for him....Zero tolerance, either play hard or face suspension. I always write about Randy Holcomb who had been a bit of a problem before he arrived here....I observed him mouthing off to Fish during a game and he sat his ass the rest of the game....Never saw that again....Winston had better watch out because you don't mess with Fish.

Time heals all wombs. He just has to grow up a bit. Hcal has no fury like a woman scorned. Therefore, time cannot possibly make a dent into healing any womb whatsoever. HAM

Your post reminds me of when Fisher suspended Kyle Spain for the last half of the season in '08. I can still see Spain sitting on that bench in a suit and tie every game - serving his suspension like a man. He came back his senior year a much better person and was a leader on the team. Ole', ole', ole'..ole' ole'!

Good post regarding Spain....Fisher does what is right and doesn't care if it will hurt the team in the short run.....Habel got run, Burns etc....Winston is skating on thin ice IMO.

Lol he is not skating on thin ice. +1. I like Shep and want to see more Shep. I like the arrogance. I love his pass first mentality and his skills attacking the basket. Life has its ups and downs, and he's in a position where he is being asked to produce like a veteran now. Not easy. All will be fine and this is a 3-game stretch where the coaches can use it for mental fine tuning.

it's just rough to watch at times... he's about as opposite of a "team guy" as i've seen. cheers for no one, and seem throughly uninterested in the game or outcome if he's not on the court. it's probably just his personality, but it's quite the contrast to guys like chase, jamaal, deshawn and others. hopefully he finds the right balance and can get himself going in the right direction. This would be a good time for future NBA draftee to mentor Shep.....sounds like WS might have his head in a wrong place. Nobody likes a guy that thinks of himself first in a team game. everone has to set their teammates up to succeed, and be happy doing it. Win together, lose together.

He'll either learn to buy into the system, or see himself above it and leave. Big time recruits are used to being the center piece of the team and he hasn't adjusted well to Fishers demands. If he listens to the other players he'll put in the work and become the player he can be, not just be content with the player he is.

What kinda concerned me was after Shep made his pull up jumper he pointed with one finger to his own chest repeatedly while staring angrily at the Aztec bench. I don't mind celebrations, but this was a little over the top with the "me, me, me." Not sure he has completely bought into the "team" concept yet. I hope he matures because in a couple years he is going to be one hell of a player. The two freshman look like future all MWC type players.

You couldn't get kawhi to bring attention to himself. He put on his hardhat and did work. Somebody may want to show Shep some kawhi film and popovich quotes and let him know that could be him. Shut up and work. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using proboards

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using proboards Bo Schembechler the man who hired Fisher in 1983 said at the time: "No man is more important than the team," "No coach is more important than the team. The team, the team, the team." Maybe Coach Fish should roll that tape at the next team meeting to help Shep get the point?

He needs a mix of Taps & TES to be getting in his ear and teaching him how to be an Aztec.

If he listens to the other players he'll put in the work and become the player he can be, not just be content with the player he is. I think he will be fine, but the interesting thing is that last year at Findlay Prep he definitely was not the center of the team, with teammates like Anthony Bennett, Brandon Ashley, and Dominic Artis among others. Typically a Top 50 or Top 100 recruit will be The Man in high school, and will have to adjust to the team concept when they hit college.

Shepard will be fine. He's still adjusting to D1. He's emotional and at times forgets to keep his head in the game. Yesterday he was called on it, and he became more emotional, so he sat.
Speaking of potential mentors, Shepard can emulate my new favorite player Skylar Spencer. Love his game. No theatrics. No staring down refs after a foul call. No rolling of the eyes. No jabbering. He simply plays with a quite confidence and gets the job done.

Spencer is going to be a monster before he's done at SDSU. I just wish Fish would play him more.
