OK, show me the plural fans calling you "not a fan." California's super majority will fund education, not necessarily CSU athletics. $800K is unsustainable. How's the basketball practice facility coming? We won 11 championships this year in 9 sports, more to come. That isn't sustainable. Sterk is owed a lot of praise for working his butt off to help the olympic sports but again, it can't continue. Part of that was on the football revenue turnaround started by Hoke and a huge donation by Ron Fowler. That won't last if we can't show some ability to generate alumni donations and other revenue streams. Again, the women's basketball program lost $1M last year. That is more that the MWC media revenue provides this coming year. Tell me how we sustain it. Tell me why we CAN'T sustain it. Because the money won't be there in the MWC You, and some others, are making projections based on your own research/opinions/thoughts/analysis, but nobody here is a paid researcher or analyst. That's fine, but don't act like your research/opinions/thoughts/analysis are any better than someone else's simply because they disagree with you. He is using publicly released facts to base his opinions.Tell you how we can sustain it? The same way we have for the past 2, 5, 10 years - that's how. So you tell me - how much money did athletics lose last year? Too much. How much money do we stand to gain if football keeps winning, regardless of conference? FAAARRRR more than if bball ever were to win a nc. How much money do we stand to lose if bball attendance drops back to 5-6k a game? Not much. 6,000*17 games*$20 (being very generous here) = $2M MAXLook, I've made my case countless times over the past 6(?) months - pretty much everyone on this board with a pulse has thrown out every single thought they've ever come up with about this $#!+. I accept i'm not going to change anyone's opinion, and neither are the guys who post 30 times a day about tv markets and football attendance and complaining about fans and western all-sports and etc etc etc. But, I will call people out on their bs and small dik syndrome when they get all high and mighty. You like the big east? That's cool, but you're not a better fan, and you don't have more foresight, and the opposition isn't wrong just because you think so. Here's the deal - you have NEVER talked money in ANY of your posts as a reason why to go to one conference or another whereas Monty, James, Full Monty, et al. have repeatedly shown why going back to the MWC is a horrific deal financially. If you were to actually research and write a post with legitimate numbers, people would take you (and your arguments) much more serious.

Been around longer than you and I have read all of your posts. You have never elucidated any reason why the MWC, under the new Noise St. agreement, is better than the BE financially. If you have, then copy it and post it up.

If you have, then copy it and post it up. Nah dude, that's cool - if you want to search through my old posts you are more than welcome to do so. It has been a few months, so you'll probably have to go back to late summer-ish. Back when we had rough numbers for the BE tv deal, and less mouths to feed in the MW, my contention was that the financial gain from moving was a) potentially less than what some though and b) not enough to justify moving bball. To you - how much more money per year is worth relegating basketball? That's what it boils down to. We aren't going to get rich in the BE OR the MW. If the BE gives us $2 million more than the MW does, I think it would be a travesty to F over bball for that. Everyone has a price they think would be worth it, mine just happens to be a bit higher. Those like the old football guys happen to think one penny more in TV money is worth the move. And then there are peripheral arguments as well - tv exposure, fan bases, OOC games, travel time, destinations, etc etc etc... but in the end, none of them really matter. If we've learned anything, it is that $$$ is the be all and end all when it comes to conference realignment. My price tag for selling out our bball team just happens to be much higher than the fball first guys. And now, I have stopped trying to analyze the potential gains and losses of every potential tv deal when they change daily and none of us have information about what the players upstairs are doing. I know i'm not making decisions, and i know that i'm not a consultant, and I know i'm not a better fan than anyone else. But some of you think you are all three of those things.

It was reason enough for Boise state. And you skipped the part about all the basketball schools leaving. Don't both these decisions... By people with far more information than any of us... Concern you as to the future of the Big East? Also even if you (SDSU fans in general) believe one year is more lucrative if the 2013 version of the BE proceeds, a university president has to make decisions for the long term. Maybe the BE is better for you, but you can't just assume if it doesn't work out the Pac 12, Big 12 or Mountain West will be your savior. I hope SDSU stays in the MW because Im a western college sports fan, and I think it's better for all fans in this league - including Aztecs - if it stays together, short of any school receiving a Pac 12 or Big 12 invite. Those of you that believe the MW is holding back SDSU - consider you only have the option between a league of mid-majors and another league of mid majors that's thousands of miles away (plus a BW that's considered a low major conference). Not a choice between MW and a top level league. The argument you will recruit better or get better home attendance long term playing SMU, UH, Tulane, Memphis, UCF, USF, ECU makes no sense unless you need it to make sense. Have you bothered to actually ponder the ramification of the deal offered/accepted by Boise... and how much their deal actually hurts every other team in the conference? I've seen zero evidence to suggest that. A) You guys (SDSU fans) argued the old TV deal was lousy and provided no exposure. The new deal allows for more TV partners (presumably ESPN) and flexibility. B) you have argued the MW will drag you down with the bottom feeders leaching off you. The new deal provides revenue for performance. If you're food enough to make a big time bowl game you get HALF the revenue. Why would you concede that you can't beat Boise to win the league when you won on the blue and shared the title this year. Will the nBE allow this kind of pay for success? Also anybody who plays boise gets the bonus. And UNLV and Air Force have hosted non conference games on national TV the last two seasons. C) You have complained the MW TV deal pays peanuts. The ability to sell Boise's game separately (along with SDSU and other new members) will provide new revenue. I don't know how much but I bet the league presidents and Boise have some idea and feel OK with it. As a hoops fan I really like that many more games can be sold to someone other than CBS and hopefully we'll see some ESPN coverage of the league next season.
