Is Northridge any good? Their losses are all away games at BYU, UCLA and Arizona State. What's their home facility like? Trying to get a feel for next year. From looking at this, I kind of feel like this CSU Northridge 7-3 Hawaii 5-3 CSU Fullerton 5-5 Pacific 5-5 UC Irvine 5-6 UCSB 4-5 Cal Poly 4-5 Long Beach St. 4-6 UC Davis 2-6 UC Riverside 2-8

It's a minor league basketball conference, but one we're stuck with because football and the TV dollars "drive the bus".
It is what it is. Best case scenario (unless no all sports western conference is formed), we dominate there and continue to recruit very well in becoming the "Gonzaga" of the Big West. Because it's a one-bid conference as it stands now.
Ultimately, I am doubtful we'll be there for long (if we ever go) as I think it's very likely we'll be in the aforementioned all sports Western conference. Or maybe I am just hoping we will be.

Wait... it looks like Big West basketball is... really bad?
Someone pump the brakes and park the bus! When did this HAPPEN?

Pathetic facilities, but have a good young team with no seniors. Irvine is the team that is most on the rise going forward, Socal high school coaches love the coaching staff and they find young talent in socal like no other. Davis and Riverside have no hope but the other big west schools have some things going for them.

The only thing I'm looking forward to is all the away games I'll be able to attend. Looking at the schedule there are at least 5-6 away games I'll be able to go to.
You play the cards you are dealt.

Being a resident of Anaheim, I am selfishly pleased by our entry to the Big West....as I will be able to attend a lot more games. Actually, I'm torn. I am displeased with it, but I like the silver lining in the local "roadies", and the tournament being held in my backyard.
If I lived in Diego, I would dislike it much more.

I've seen his teams play at CSF a couple of times. He has a good reputation.

LBSU and UCI are at least reasonably serious programs, although the pyramid is a dump. The Bren center is pretty nice, if smallish.
I know it has been discussed (and dismissed), but it seems like we should be in the Pac-12 (call it the Pac-13). SDSU is essentially on par academically with ASU, Oregon State, and Washington State (although this is a complex calculation). Obviously our hoops program dominates most of the Pac currently and if we stay strong will compete with Zona and UCLA regularly. Looks like our football team would be in the middle of the pack.

It's hard to get a take on your meaning. But you make it sound like people (fans, AD) associated with SDSU have dismissed the idea. You do realize nearly all of us would sell our souls to get into the PAC-$$.

Their conference RPI is ranked 17 right now. Better than the 21-25 people were complaining about.

will the SDSU ticket office be able to sell - mini season tickets for games in the LA vicinity, . Bright side :NBA scouts in that area will get to see alot of games. Also Spencer, Polee, JJ'O, J.Johnson, LBF family and friends can get to some games if they can not get down to the V. Plus the SAC connection can get to the Davis game.

Other silver linings (over the MWC specifically) involve the TV situation. More games on FSSD (probably anyway) and ESPN, combined with ESPN's ability to broker big games with the Kansas types. The Show sells well for them and the west coast needs a fresh face as the upstart that they sold Gonzaga as for years. SDSU fills that for ESPN and I'm excited by the potential for that relationship. But yes, overall it's pretty crappy.

The new AD at UC Riverside is trying to get a new basketball arena built on campus. If he's successful, I feel like UCR would start getting much better talent to commit.

And that is considering that SDSU has a mediocre RPI at the moment. I bet after new years it ends up even better.
